23.01.2022 Restoration Diary Week Four: Paint The first thing to do to get ready for paint was to have everything broken down as much as i could. As a part of this process i had to replace the back of the draw carcass, so using the old desktop i measured cut out an appropriate panel then glue and nailed it on the carcass. Also i removed the draw bottoms to paint separately. Then everything was sanded with a 120 grit sander, until everything was clean and smoothed (shown in pictures). Th...e paint scheme was only for the outside, and the inside except the draw bottom was clean wood. With this in mind i took to Youtube to brush up on the galaxy style paint scheme and had a go on an old draw as seen in the pictures. The last two things before paint for real was to mask up the carcass and draws and to apply primer to everything. Then everything got sprayed matt black then i applied my galaxy scheme once that was dried i clear coated to protect everything. 19.01.2022 Restoration diary week two. I all ready decided that a new hardwood top would be perfect for this restoration. So after closer inspection it came apparent that I am not going to get everything back to bare wood. This meant painting for the price range this desk needs to fall in, so I decided it would be cool for a spacey design. But even better if it glowed in the dark, which brings me back to the hardwood top. So I went hunting for particular feature rich Marri, which we sp...ent a few days cleaning up slicing into strips, gluing and fill with resin with glow in the dark powder in it (as seen in photos). 09.01.2022 Hello There, Sorry i Havent posted in a while as the last couple of months have been dealing with stock and protecting it from the weather (not very exciting). This week im staring my Restoration diary and i will be posting an update every Sunday until the project is complete. So a couple of weeks ago this childrens desk was donated to me (as seen in the photo all ready broken down). I decided it would be a good idea to see if i can breathe new life into it. The desk will be for sale once its done. The plan is to keep as much of it as possible but revamp with a new table top out of hardwood and give it a fresh paint job. So step one is getting rid of the plastic handles and the corroded leg attachment points, remove the existing top, sand and clean everything else. More next week.. Cheers Ben of Gumnut Studios

06.01.2022 Restoration Diary Week Five: The final bit of finish was to seal all the wood parts left with Cabothane clear, Which took three coats. Then carefully put the desk back together by marking out where the carcass and leg fittings needed to be, carefully drilled then hand screwed everything into place with new Phillips head screws. Unfortunately due to the size of the desktop and the orientation of the artwork the original leg attachments did not work, but have future plans for t...hem. I am offering this desk at a %20 discount to people here first. Yes thats right this desk is now for sale at $130 (delivery available to the local metro area for extra). 04.01.2022 Restoration Dairy week Three, Fittings: The existing handles were plastic and were not going to cut it for the new build. Fortunately, I recently acquired a whole bunch of knobs and handles from Titus Tekform that will be perfect for this build. The screw plates for the legs were all gunked up and corroded. But unfortunately, after a week of searching in many many stores, I couldnt find replacements. Plan B is to clean up the plates and spray them matt black. In this process, I found out that the plates were made by a company brought out by Stanley in the 70s. No wonder I could not find replacements and dates the original desk to at least 40 yrs old...
