25.01.2022 The seeding and tubestock plantings are coming along well. The heat knocked over a lot of the smaller sprouts, but there is plenty of seed stock still in the ground to come through when it rains. Thanks to Ian Raynor from Greening Australia for these photos. The mower is back in action (thanks Beth Shanley and Ian Middler) and an email will go out soon to those that have recently volunteered to cut the grass at the course. It’s looking pretty hairy since I blew up the tract...or on the fourth fairway, so it’ll be good to get it playable again. We will hold our AGM in late March at the clubhouse. Anyone who would like to join the committee, has ideas about what we could be doing up there, or just wants to listen and snaffle the free party pies is welcome. Remember, OUR amenity, OUR responsibility. Look after it or it will be gone. Cheers Brett See more

25.01.2022 Get out there golfers. Course is a picture. Beautiful golfing weather. Four billion golf balls for those who whinge about losing them available at the clubhouse (thanks Benny Read). Fill your bag and drop a few coins in the honesty box.

24.01.2022 The golf course is looking a bit haggard unfortunately. The first three holes are mowed but both the tractor and mower have broken down. We'll have the mower fixed soon so we should have the place tidied up soon enough. We desperately need new volunteers to mow. The mower is fun and the job is quite satisfying. The most important attributes are gentleness to save damage to the mower and to the course and time, it takes about an hour to mow one hole. If you're keen and abl...e, drop me an email at [email protected] and I'll give you the rundown. The tree plantings are still going great. At least 95% have survived and are flourishing that’s about 430 healthy saplings up to 60 cm tall. They've survived the winter and much of the summer, so most should be ok from here on in. The strip seeding is germinating and doing very well in some places. Go for a walk about the course and have a look sometime. See more

23.01.2022 The committee of the Gunning Golf and Community Centre have just applied for a grant from the Federal Government Community Sport Infrastructure Grant to repair our busted clubhouse and get some improvements around the place. Please please everyone give Angus Taylor a hoy and tell him we need better infrastructure in the town. We've got a massive population increase in the pipeline, and we need to build sport infrastructure before we get the problems we all know are on the way. Jump on his FB or website and rattle the cages! https://www.facebook.com/Angustaylor4hume/?ref=br_rs https://www.angustaylor.com.au/

18.01.2022 Hi all - is there anybody in Queanbeyan this afternoon before 5 who can pick up a golf course mower part from John Deere? Already paid for just collect from Agriquip. Thanks!

17.01.2022 Planting preparations well under way. Many of the holes dug for the planting day on 6 May. The red lines show the plan for the strip seeding which will occur in the spring after considerable preparation. Hope to see HEAPS of people up for the planting on 6 May.

16.01.2022 Gunning Golf and Community Centre will hold an ordinary meeting at the Clubhouse from 7pm Tuesday 18 December. A few drinks and party pies supplied. See you there!

16.01.2022 Beeeewwwwwdiful weather for golf. Think links in Scotland. Good practice for that retirement trip to St Andrews...

15.01.2022 We have got the Bunnings sausage sizzle on 6 May. Clashes with the planting day but we need all the funds we can get. Anyone who is in Goulburn and can help out will be most welcome. Make it a busy day for your community and get to everything.

14.01.2022 Course mowed and ready to play. 18 holes opened up if you're up for it.

12.01.2022 Course looks brilliant after a lot of hard work to get the fairways mowed. Ready for play - get out there! FORE! Thanks also to Liz and Kel from Mavller for their work on the course. Mavller also donated fuel to enable the big mower to do it's thing. Thanks Liz and Benny

12.01.2022 Hi all. Regular committee meeting for the Gunning Golf and Community Centre. 7pm, Tuesday 2 October at the Clubhouse. Might be a drink, might be a party pie... All welcome.

11.01.2022 The recent strip seeding at the Golf and Community Centre already sprouting! A selection of wattles and eucalypts coming up. I never expected it to go so well so quickly. About 13 km of new growth! These Greening Australia people really know their stuff.

08.01.2022 The course is open for walkers, bird watchers, dogs off leash, and golfers. NSW rules are that only groups of two people maximum (no exceptions) can gather on the course. Someone has been closing the gate and posting signs that people cannot enter. This has not been done by the Club, nor has the Club been contacted by ULSC or NSW Govt. This behaviour is unlawful and will be reported to the police.

06.01.2022 Another reminder...Free sausage sizzle, drinks, coffee and tea. And just a good thing to do. See you there! Bring a few buckets too, for the watering.

06.01.2022 This doesn't look good. The community will need to remain vigilant. After the Fed Govt sports grant fiasco my trust in govt is low. Hi, Could you provide advice if the committee would consider leasing the Gunning Golf Club land for grazing?... Are there any issues that may stop / limit the this request and current use of the Golf Club land. i.e. Boundary fencing, access to water, green maintenance, playing schedule, etc Regards John Levien Asset & Risk Coordinator Infrastrucute Upper Lachlan Shire Council M: PO Box 42, Gunning, NSW, 2581 P: (02) 4830 1014 F: (02) 4832 1055 E: [email protected]

06.01.2022 Further to the below...This has come from Lands Dept after legislative changes moving these Crown Land assets to councils' control. ULSC consultative as usual and we'll look to get the protection of the place into the next strategic plan. We'll need to keep an eye on the state and Fed Govt into the future . Once something is law there's nothing the Council can do about it.

04.01.2022 The Greening Australia lads under the watchful eye of Gunning Landcare’s Janet H seeding a few more kms this week.

02.01.2022 Hi all. Greening Australia has just overseen nearly 10 km of direct seeding of native plants into the golf course in recent days. On top of the 450 tubestock planted by the community back in May, we are set to take advantage of (hopefully) some spring rain to really boost the vegetation stock. In a decade we should see the place covered in birds, small mammals, and other creatures that aren't there much now. Get your kids down there to take care of a few of the tubestock plan...ts, and keep an eye out for the seeds sprouting. The rows are along the fairways on the edge of the grass. The grassland has been left largely alone as it is possibly more important than the trees. The diversity in the grassland is amazing, and it has come back magnificently since the stock was kept out. What a lovely place this is becoming. Get down and have a look. FORE!! See more

02.01.2022 *Edited* Don't forget the tree planting at the golf course on 6 May. Free sausage sangas, coffee and tea, and soft drinks for all thanks to the generosity of Gunning District Landcare and the Lions. Come down for an hour or three before heading to the Pumpkin Festival!

01.01.2022 Great day at the course yesterday - 450 trees in the ground! Heaps of people, and great to see so many kids! Drive past the course and you will see how substantial the plantings are. Big thanks to Janet and Gunning District Landcare, Benny and the RFS, Ian and Jen and Greening Australia, Ros on the Newsletter and the Lions volunteers, and all the folk who worked hard through the day. Some people travelled far - some of the Lewis clan drove hours to participate. And a final call out to our first corporate sponsor Peter Reddy, who runs Southern Tablelands Lawyers and is a relentless worker for the Gunning community. Bloody good effort all round I say!
