18.01.2022 Where do your drums come from? Not just the company you bought them from, but the parts that make up your drum. Buying a drum is more than just buying the brand name of a company, it's supporting the suppliers and ethics of that company as well. A lot of people tell us that our drums have a distinctive look and feel - that's because of the suppliers and ethics we use to make our drums. Swipe through to learn more about where our drums come from, and our vision for the future of our drums.
18.01.2022 Today marks a huge personal milestone for me and my business. I've finally got a workshop to call my own, or as my nephew would say "fresh new house!" I owe a debt of gratitude to the three people in this photo with me; my dad, my brother and my partner. They not only helped me move into my new workshop today, but have supported me in my journey of building my business from day one. From starting out in the corner of my dad's workshop, to sharing space with my good friends at... @mastfurniture, to now having my own workshop, I couldn't be more happy and surprised with where this business has taken me. There have been some extremely testing challenges along the way, and I have so much work to do to keep pushing Haldane Drums further along its path, but it's nice to take stock in moments like these and realise that the work I'm putting in is having an effect. Of course, I wouldn't have the opportunity to do any of this without the people who are following along with my journey and buying my drums, so if you are one of those people, thank you sincerely. I am beyond excited to start 2020 in a new, dedicated drum workshop!

12.01.2022 Here's a lovely 14x7 Rose Sheoak snare fitted with our custom stainless lugs and hoops. Rose Sheoak (Allocasuarina Torulosa) is an exotic and uncommon Australian tonewood, especially pieces with grain as consistent and beautiful as this We've nearly bought all of the high quality Rose Sheoak available from our supplier, and there's no telling when timber of this quality will be available again, so if you'd like to secure a drum made with this incredible timber, get in touch! - @vividvisualco
11.01.2022 To celebrate moving into my new workshop I'm offering a special deal on having your bearing edges re-cut. For $99 I'll take your 4-piece drum kit, flatten your bearing edges, recut them on my router table, sand, and wax them. This will make your drums easier to tune, and sound better! If you want me to do more than 4 drums, it will cost an additional $35 per drum. Must be able to deliver the drums to me in Yeronga, Brisbane.... Conditions as follows: - All drums must be delivered disassembled (hoops and heads removed) - To make this a cost effective offer, I'll be performing all bearing edge re-cuts on a specified date in January 2020 (to be confirmed). The $99 purchase is a booking confirmation to have your bearing edges redone at this low price. - Offer open until Christmas Eve, 24th December 2019.
10.01.2022 Fresh new website! We've been getting a lot of enquires recently about our drums, so we thought we'd create a more useful resource for potential customers and try and answer as many of their questions without the need to contact us. We've got information on the how, what and why of steambent drums, resources to help you choose your bearing edges and timber options, and a real working store where you can customise your own drum and order it on the spot. Let us know if there's anything else you think we should add Visit our site at www.haldanedrums.com
08.01.2022 Fresh off the lathe we have 14x5 (top) and 14x6.5 Northern Silky Oak shells with Tasmanian Blackwood reinforcement rings. The 14x6.5 has a Tasmanian Blackwood feature through the center - this isn't an inlay, it's a separate section of steambent shell that has been joined and glued into the shell. This was a bit of a process, but not as difficult as I thought and the results are as good as I'd hoped.
07.01.2022 Haldane Drums is changing, read on to find out how (and why). Beginning in February 2020, Haldane Drums will be changing its business model. I will no longer be accepting custom-orders from customers, instead I will design and produce small-batch releases of high-quality drums which will be available for sale through my website as they're produced. This is a decision which I've been considering for some time, but it wasn't until recently that I've been able to see a clear pat...h for how I plan to make this work. You might be wondering why I would want to change a business model that seems to be working. There are a few reasons: Control. As Haldane Drums has grown and more and more custom orders have come my way, I've had to relinquish control over certain aspects of my products and working life. My working schedule has become increasingly busy as I'm trying to source parts & timber, plan cashflow & workflow, curate a social media feed, and liaise with clients all while making drums. This amounts to a lot of work surrounding the act of making drums - work which I don't particularly enjoy. It also amounts to a lack of control over the products I'm making as I'm constantly making orders to my customers' specifications. The solution for me is to take control of these aspects of the business and put it back in my own hands. I'll now be able to take the time to meticulously design and plan new products, source the parts for them, bend the shells, and release a limited number of extremely special drums. Focus. The design, build, marketing, and sale of each limited run of snare drums will have my full focus and attention under this new model. Each step of the process can take as long as it needs to without deadlines constantly looming in the near future. I will be able to take the time to push my skills further than ever before and produce the kind of drums I've always dreamt of making. I will be able to focus on using techniques and products that I find exciting, and take the design of a drum in my own direction, without outside influence. (Continued in comments )
