11.01.2022 Haralds House was originally established through a vision by the founder of Street Level Youth Care, Dr Harald Falge OAM and facilitated through the office of the Federal Member for Leichhardt Warren Entsch in the mid 2000’s. After five years of community fundraising, sufficient funds were raised to purchase Haralds House. The house was originally established to home troubled youth, 16 years and under, to provide accommodation and support.... The house was run by Harald Falge through the Baptist Church for several years but in 2016, sadly the house closed its doors. Warren Entsch contacted Baptist Care and after negotiations, the title was transferred and is now held in trust behalf of the Cairns community through the Haralds House Association Inc. The committee are all locals and consists of Chair Hon Warren Entsch MP Federal Member for Leichhardt | Vice Chair Charlie McKillop (ABC Rural Reporter) | Secretary Karen Duffin (Cairns Regional Council) | Treasurer Peter Phillips (Cairns Penny Bank) | honorary legal adviser Peter O’Connor (O’Connor Law) | including Cairns Regional Council Deputy Mayor Terry James and The Honourable Justice Jim Henry - plus a number of committee members, most of whom were involved in the original fundraising efforts. We are committed for the house to continue its original purpose. Unfortunately there is a requirement for some upgrades which is when we reached out to PRIME Group in an effort to secure the necessary expertise so that the house can bought back up to standard. Once this is achieved the Board will be seeking expressions of interest for an entity to lease the property and provide the intended services for the Cairns youth. It is our intention throughout this process to publicly identify and promote all businesses that have provided goods and services towards the upgrade for their contributions towards the re-establishment of Haralds House. This will initially be done via the social media page and then upon completion of the work, while we don’t identify the address, we will hold the launch inside the house and local media will be invited to attend also. At which all of the contributors will be acknowledged. It is 100 per cent funded and owned by our community which in itself is very unique. We would appreciate any support and if any of the providers require assistance in sourcing goods, I am more than happy to be involved.
