23.01.2022 That's one impressive game of #Uno Each week our residents come together for games such as uno, pictionary and chess. Over cups of tea and coffee, new connections are made whilst the chatter old friends who were once just neighbours helps everyone to feel at ease. Be it the joy of remembering the game played as a child, or teaching it to someone who has never played it before there are always debates around the table! Rules...both old and new.... Do you have any fun games you'll be playing this weekend that we can try with our residents? #unochallenge #communitydevelopment #canberracommunity

16.01.2022 Thanks to the generosity of the Office for Minister Yvette Berry, Member for Ginninderra and the Minister responsible for Housing as well as Sport and Recreation, our residents enjoyed watching the GWS Giants take on Melbourne Football Club at Manuka Oval Manuka oval on Easter Sunday. Not only did residents say it was a brilliant game, but enjoying the AFL with the company of their neighbours was something they hoped to do again soon! #communitydevelopment #SportForAll ... #canberracommunity See more

15.01.2022 And this is how it all rolled out yesterday for our residents' Christmas lunch. Thanks to Bunnings Warehouse Australia and Helping ACT our residents were treated to treats and pressies. Not to mention a great lunch prepared by staff members Linda and Wendy. It was a great day with everyone mingling and chatting - and looked like the 35 residents who attended had fun!

13.01.2022 Havelock Housing has a rich history which can still be seen in the beautiful retro art deco foyer and staircase https://www.havelock.asn.au/history/

11.01.2022 Monday fun fact! According to the ACT Government, with more than 55% of young people, and over 36% of adults volunteering in the region we benefit from the highest volunteering rate in Australia! Despite this, 86% of organisations need more volunteers! Here at Havelock we too are on the hunt for amazing Canberrans who want to give something back to our community and/or... make a difference to others in our region. If you're looking for something more rewarding if Mondayitis is getting the better of you, check out this great article by Canberra Weekly talking about our volunteering program "Be a sport: Havelock House seeks volunteers for new program". We hope to hear from you soon! https://bit.ly/3uJbw5K #bikemechanic #canberracommunity #canberravolunteer #communitydevelopment #sportfordevelopment #SportForAll

09.01.2022 Once again Helping ACT have stepped in to help make things brighter for our Havelock House residents. Pictured, here is Mohammed from Helping ACT handing over Christmas hampers to staff member Krystal as gifts for residents.

09.01.2022 A traditional hatha practise was thoroughly enjoyed today by residents at the relaxing & welcoming studio Balanced Yoga. With three mantras at the heart of all practices, it is the mantra of Sangha which made us feel most connected. Representing community and knowing we were part of this place, feeling welcomed! Sangha says it all Thank you Kate for a wonderful practice, we're excited for more alignment, stretching & meditation next week!... Our Building Communities program through Australian Government Department of Health continues to grow and connect through the power of physical activity!

07.01.2022 Established during COVID with thanks to Bunnings Warehouse Australia, our community garden flourished in the warmer months, with 4 varieties of tomatoes, corn, cucumbers, lettuce, radishes and carrots. Residents enjoyed the calm associated with gardening, from planting and watching things grow, watering, and making fresh salads and toasted sandwiches with the produce they had grown. As we prepare our winter crops, we've been looking at veggies that can sustain Canberra's co...oler climate, have high yield potential and most of all are delicious. We'd love to hear what other #communitygarden projects and avid #canberragardener are doing in and around #northcanberra and #gardeningaustralia

06.01.2022 We are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced and committed Community Development worker to join our tight knit team as CD Manager. Our busy and successful Community Development program will provide you with lots of rewards and exciting challenges - so if you want to be involved and help it grow further, please apply for the job! 01.01.2022 The Residents' Garden Club was excited about the abundant produce their new veggie patch has provided. But are not so happy about some uninvited guests - including a family of possums and - as discovered during today's harvest - hungry caterpillars!! Some solutions are now in place to protect corn and tomatoes from the possums. Let Parviz and Simone know if you have any solutions to discourage the caterpillars from eating the spinach and lettuce.

01.01.2022 FLASHBACK FRIDAYS - a new weekly series celebrating our rich 69-year history housing Canberrans

01.01.2022 An injection of government resourcing into community housing at this time is critical. A recent report as part of the Everybody's Home predicts an increase in the numbers of Canberrans who will experience housing stress over the coming months. http://www.equityeconomics.com.au/#/investinginsocialhousing
