25.01.2022 Puppies in the box update Just over three weeks ago we put a call out for foster carers for 8 puppies that were less than a day old when they came in to care. We were inundated with offers to take them on.... Over the last three weeks four foster carers and their families have gone way above and beyond what anyone could reasonably expect from anyone to give these little ones the best chance at life. It's bloody hard work raising puppies, even more so when you are getting up every two hours feeding during the night . Your days are spent working around the puppies feeding demands. Sadly as hard as everyone tried we lost three of the puppies but with the help and support from Brett and team at Goonoo Goonoo Rd vet clinic and our priceless foster carers now have five healthy little fatties

25.01.2022 Semi retirement take two. Almost two years ago I (Kate) decided it was time to hand the reins of HCWAS over and retire / take a break. Sadly that didn't pan out and I was back 8 weeks later. Move on two years and it's time again to hand over to someone much younger and has more energy than me ... I will stay on as head trainer and without the extra behind the scenes work I will have much more time to put in to the dogs training. I will also continue with the Pups in Prison program. From here on every dog rehomed through us will be trained up to novice obedience level and new owners will have the opportunity to have a one on one training session with their new family member. Thank you everyone that has supported me/us over the last seven years. Welcome Tanya O'Malley. Tanya has been working with us now for around 18 months and has proven she has the ability and the enthusiasm to continue our work. Tanya takes over as kennel manager as of tomorrow. Congratulations Tanya, I know you will do us proud

24.01.2022 Double trouble or double the fun ... either way it is certainly double the love Some of you may remember Kodiak, he was adopted into the perfect home a little over a year ago... well a few weeks ago he was joined by the beautiful Willow and they have become total bffs! Thank you to this wonderful family for once again choosing HCWAS to add to their fur family #dreamteam or #doubletrouble

24.01.2022 Warning, long post but we've been waiting for this one for a very long long time On the 11th January 2019 in the early hours of the morning Mr Digby came in to the world along with 10 siblings. Before we knew it they were all ready to head off to their new homes to start their new lives.... Well that was true for most of them. Except Digby. For some reason he just kept getting overlooked but we didn't care, we got to spend more time with him In August 2019 Digby was the first pup that entered our pups in prison program. He was a big hit with inmates and staff. In November it was discovered Digby had to have surgery on his hip, he spent the next few weeks recovering at the jail until it was time for rehabilitation. Digby came back to the kennels in December until early January when he went in to foster care with Tash and Gus who put everything they had into getting Digby back on his paws. During this time Digby, along with the resident dogs helped to raise a puppy named Solo, sometimes begrudgingly but he took it in his stride, we don't think he was very unhappy when the pesky puppy found his forever home though . Peace again at last. Over the next few months Digby became very attached to his foster mum and dad and as much as they wanted to they just couldn't keep him full time. There were a few people interested in adopting him but just couldn't settle without is foster family. Enter puppy Solo again and his family. Solos family fell madly in love with Digby and committed to spending the time it took for him to become comfortable enough with the intention of eventually adopting him. So the transition began. First it was play dates with Solo with Tash by his side. Then it was play dates for an hour or two without Tash. Finally he spent the day, then had a few sleepovers till eventually he was happy to spend weekends, so it went until finally after four months Digby was ready to say goodbye to Tash and Gus and hello to his new family There have been many tears shed by his foster family, some of them tears of joy and happiness for Digby, lots of tears of sadness at having to say goodbye to him. Digby now holds the record for being with us the longest at 22 months but it was worth every minute of it. Way to go Digby. Tash and Gus, what can we say about you two. You have both gone above and beyond for Digby and thanks just doesn't seem enough. Thank you for your commitment to ensuring Digby had the best possible chance at life

24.01.2022 If anyone has had a young puppy stolen in the last 24 hours please INBOX us with age, sex and description. Photo proof will be required. If anyone has had a young puppy stolen in the last 24 hours please INBOX us with age, sex and description. Photo proof will be required.

22.01.2022 RETURNED TO OWNER We want to introduce you all to Doug the Second. We don't know who Doug the first is, his dad maybe ... Don't let that sweet face fool you. Doug currently has no manners, is way to excitable. He will launch himself at you at great speed and doesn't know how to slow down but, he is a fast learner and is showing us that when we teach him what is expected of him he is happy to comply. He is super smart and after a few weeks of training he will make someone a great companion. We will keep you updated with his progress. Doug will be available for adoption in the coming weeks.

22.01.2022 We are so proud of Larry and how he is doing with his training. Here he is nailing his place training, even when we introduced Ryder as a distraction he still held his place. Go Larry

22.01.2022 ADOPTED Introducing Missy. This little lady is a beautiful 3 year old English Staffy.... She is an absolute delight, her previous owners have done a wonderful job in raising such a well mannered well balanced dog. Missy has gone to do some community service work by keeping the minimum security inmates company for a few weeks at the Correctional Centre. When I left her she was having a ball with them and being totally spoilt rotten. As luck would have it she arrived on bbq day so is looking forward to a sausage sizzle for lunch

21.01.2022 Meet Larry. Larry is a male Rottie X around 2 years old. When he first came to us he was quite the jerk.... He had no manners, jumped on everyone, walking him was, well let's just say less than pleasant he also thought it was really cool to mouth everyone and everything. Fast forward 2 weeks and he is now a true gentleman. Here he is walking with a new handler that he's not been out with before and he totally nailed it. Quite often they will challenge a new handler but not Larry, he fell straight in to line and walked with her like a champion. He held his place perfectly mostly, he only needed just a few gentle reminders to remember where he was suppose to be. Larry is just about ready to find his forever home, he just needs another week or two of training and he'll be good to go. If you think you are the right fit for Larry please phone the office on 67655661 to make an appointment to come and meet him. We do not know what he's like with cats and any resident dog will need to meet him before adoption. GENUINE INQUIRES ONLY

20.01.2022 It's a big day for Chief today, he's off to have his lump removed. All we can do now is wait and pray for a good pathology result.

19.01.2022 We want to give a big shout out today to Mel from the Tamworth Regional Council Pound. Today is Mel's last day and she will be missed by many. She has always gone above and beyond for those in her care and has worked tirelessly with rescue groups throughout Australia to ensure dogs and cats that found themselves in her pound had the best possible chance at a new life.... On many occasions she has given her free time to help us out when we've had weekend adoption days and other activities. Mel and her husband Kieran also helped us out when we took over the kennels which needed a major clean up and maintenance done. Cheers Mel, good luck with your new venture and I guess seeing as we can't talk you in to shouting farewell drinks before you go I guess we better shout you

19.01.2022 CAIRO HAS BEEN ADOPTED Cairo our collie x is still looking for his new family Give the shelter a call if interested in meeting him

19.01.2022 BOTH GIRLS HAVE HOMES TO GO TO WHEN THEY ARE READY. WE ARE NOT TAKING ANY MORE INQUIRES FOR WILLOW OR BELLA These two little ladies joined us today.... Bella One year old female Maltese. Willow 18 month old long haired German Shepherd. We are still getting to know both these girls but so far both seem to be real sweeties. Haven't tested either of them with other dogs as yet but both are non reactive through fences so we are pretty confident they will be fine. Proper testing will be done over the next few days. Both girls will be available for adoption in a few weeks.

19.01.2022 UPDATE: These 2 beautiful boys have both been adopted. Meet Finn and Tucker - 10 week old Collie Cross brothers. Both boys have a lot of energy already so would love a home where they will have a suitable outlet for this. Both boys are available now. - Finn has the little beauty spot on the side of his nose.

19.01.2022 He's feeling a bit sorry for himself but Chief came through his surgery like the champion he is The lump was about the size of a golf ball.

17.01.2022 So about a week ago we took in 3 little cuties from the pound in bad shape, fleas for days! Worms and really dehydrated. A week and a bit later with some love and care they are starting to blossom into confident young pups We believe these guys to be 4 maybe 5 weeks old and unsure if breed atm. These guys will be available for expressions of interest in about 2 weeks

16.01.2022 Best news day ever we have just got the results of his pathology back and Chief does NOT have cancer. Seems it was a solid abscess caused probably by having a grass seed or splinter embedded in his jaw for quite a long time

16.01.2022 Great news for both our girls that came to us emaciated a few weeks ago. Miss Willow went off to her new home today and has gone to live on the coast. Her new family adopted a staffy from us about 5 years ago and contacted us looking for another a few weeks ago. It was love at first sight when they met Willow.... Lulu who was in a lot worse condition than Willow when she arrived is looking fabulous and is ready for her new family to find her. For GENUINE inquires for Lulu please inbox us. We don't know her breeding, we don't know what she is like with cats or other small animals. We guess her age is around 3 years old. She is a particular about other dogs so a meet and greet is a must if you have other dogs in the family.

15.01.2022 EDIT: WELL THIS LUCKY LITTLE LADY JUST WENT AND SCORED HERSELF A NEW HOME STRAIGHT FROM THE POUND When you're old work mates know how to push your buttons (audio) she knows we can't say no ... Yes this pretty girl is joining us this morning for some lovin'

15.01.2022 Mr Ryder ( tan guy) is having a day out today and got to spend some time with some new friends. Ryder is now available for adoption. He is approx 18 months old. He is quite high energy so would suit an active family that will include him in their day to day lives.... We do not know what he is like with cats and he is best suited to a home with older children. For genuine inquires only please INBOX us to make an appointment to meet him.

13.01.2022 Our special girl Lulu is looking for a very special home. Because of the condition she came to us in she has had to spent so long with us to recover fully our kennels have now become her safe place. She is a very loving girl once she gets to know you, if you have food she warms up to you rather quickly ... Lulu recently went to a very loving home where she settled well while her new family was around her however became very distressed when she had to spend a few hours on her own. She will need to go to a home where her family either works from home or can take some time off work to help her settle or perhaps someone retired. If there is another dog in the family we prefer it to be a male and a calm dog. Lulu also seems to be cat friendly with cats that are use to dogs. If you think you are that special family that can help Lulu feel safe in her new environment please don't hesitate to INBOX us. GENUINE INQUIRES ONLY.

12.01.2022 Update: Both girls have been adopted. Sisters Poppy and Pixie Poppy (black and white) and Pixie (tan) are very sweet 3-4 month old pups. Pixie has a calm nature while Poppy is the more outgoing. Both gorgeous girls will be available late next week.

12.01.2022 Note to self. Now that Chief is feeling much better do not leave him unattended in the office

11.01.2022 When you are trying your best to impress the prettiest girl in the place and she just keeps giving you the cold shoulder Hope likes to play hard to get Chief but she will fall for your charm soon enough

11.01.2022 ALL ADOPTED WE ARE NOT TAKING ANY MORE INQUIRES FOR JIMMY OR TOTO Welcome to the family Bruce Jimmy and Toto... Bruce is 3 years old and is a German Shepherd cross, we don't know what with.. He is a little out of sorts at the moment after being surrounded to the pound yesterday but we are sure he will settle in soon enough. Jimmy is approximately 8 months old, no settling in period required, he is a bundle of fun. No point crying over spilt milk is his motto, he is just looking for his next adventure Jimmy is microchipped as Jack Russell cross Then we have Toto, we are not sure of age but we are guessing he's only young. He has a similar outlook on life as Jimmy, just looking for some mischief to get in to with his mate. As you can see Toto will require fencing where he can not get a foot hold Bruce Jimmy and Toto will be available for adoption in the next few weeks after vet work is completed and we get to know them a little better

11.01.2022 Puppy play time Available for adoption 1 male & 1 female collie x Approximately 3 months old ... Will be large dogs 1 x female bitza girl, approx 9 weeks old Will be large as well For serious enquiry Please call the shelter on 67655661 to arrange a appointment to meet

11.01.2022 Chase (M) and Pep (F) are 1 year old Kelpies who have recently become bffs. Chase (white chest) is a little more chill and loves a nice walk, while Pep has energy for days and would make a great running partner. Both love people and need to say hi to everyone on their walks! Both are undergoing training and are ready to join their furever families

11.01.2022 'Every child should have two things: A dog, and a mother willing to let them have one' - Unknown Lucky for this young man he has just that. Misty headed off to her furever home a couple of weeks ago and we think their smiles say it all #aboyandhisdog #loveatfirstsite #adopted

10.01.2022 These are the updates we live for!! Lulu (now named Marley) came to us back in June in very poor condition... after much love (and good nutrition) she was ready to find her furever home and in August she did just that!! Her smile certainly has us smiling

08.01.2022 Chief!! This big old gentleman was a favorite of all that met him... recently he left us to enjoy his senior years in long term foster care with a beautiful family. Lazy days soaking up the sun, neighbourhood walks and endless cuddles are all this greying gentleman will know from now on Thank you for opening up your home and your heart

08.01.2022 When Sophie met Lulu our girl Lulu has finally found her happy ever after. We are so happy for her. She has certainly landed in her paws. Way to go Lulu, have the life that you deserve

08.01.2022 A couple of weeks ago we posted bffs Pep and Chase for adoption. Well both of these beautiful doggos have headed off to their furever families and we think its safe to say it is love all around

07.01.2022 Here we go again. Six puppies "found" eyes and ears are still not opened so they are less than two weeks old. They did not get to where they were supposedly found on their own.... Call me a suspicious person if you like but I bet I can guess where they were "found" Thank you to Tamworth RSPCA for sharing the load and taking three of the puppies. It will make midnight feeding a bit quicker and at least I'll know someone else is up feeding as well

07.01.2022 We have finally got a coat on Hope, she is not impressed Who wants to take bets how long she will leave in on ?? Given her history with coats I'm betting she will have it off before the end of the day

07.01.2022 Diego has been adopted Thañk God for foster big brother Moose These guys Nixi (f) Mataoe (m)... And Diego (m) will be ready to find their forever homes in a few weeks so we are now taking expressions of interest. They will also be at the shelter over the weekend for meet and greats by appointment only See more

07.01.2022 Good golly miss Holly This little bundle of fun is approximately 9 months old and a curious combination of breeds. Holly is great with other dogs and loves a play so ideally she would have a brother or sister she can terrorize like younger siblings do ... For genuine enquiries please call the shelter. Remember to leave your details if goes to msg bank

07.01.2022 These little cuties found their way to us today. Found dumped in a box on the side of the road very dehydrated and starving. They will all be available for meet and greets in two weeks.... We don't know what breed they are at this stage.

07.01.2022 UPDATE: ADOPTED These sweethearts are all of on their new adventures Meet Peanut (F), Bowie (M) and Dozer (M) While their breed might not be clear, their temperaments certainly are... all 3 are incredibly sweet and gentle with a dash of puppy playfulness! Approximately 4 months old, we do believe they will grow up to be on the larger side. They will be availble for adoption in the upcoming weeks. Please contact the shelter if you would like to arrange a meet and greet

04.01.2022 Misty the mischievous Misty is a 1 year old staffy cross who's tail never stops and neither does she!! Misty is currently finishing up some training and will be available for adoption in a couple of weeks. #pocketrocket

03.01.2022 AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION Our plan for our beautiful senior Chief was that he would stay with us for the rest of his life as we were not sure if the medication for his arthritis in his spine would work. Well a month later and the difference in him is amazing. ... He now enjoys going for walks, he's trying harder and harder to get Hope to play with him and love him, sadly to no avail. She is just not interested in his advances Due to his response to the medication we have decided to make Chief available for adoption. Anyone interested in making him a part of their family must be aware he will be on medication for the rest of his life at a cost of around $80 a month. The only vice he has is that you may get a head butt if he thinks you are not paying him enough attention . For GENUINE inquires only please inbox us. You must also be prepared to continue his medication daily.

02.01.2022 How good is it to see the chip box babies all up and about and causing chaos They all weigh over 2 kilos and starting to show their little personalities Foster carers rock
