20.01.2022 Hey Canberra In the last few days, there has been a drop in the number of people who are getting tested for COVID-19 Part of living with COVID means getting... tested whenever you have any COVID-19 symptoms cough, sore throat, fever, shortness of breath, runny nose, and loss of smell or taste no matter how mild they are. Testing is a vital step in managing COVID-19, as it enables early detection and response to cases before there is widespread transmission in the community. The more we test for COVID-19, the better we can protect ourselves, each other and keep Canberra businesses open With spring well underway, some people may be concerned that the symptoms they experience due to hay fever or asthma are similar to COVID-19 symptoms. If your asthma is well managed, but you develop fever, cough, sore throat or shortness of breath isolate yourself and get tested. If you are in doubt, phone your GP to discuss. Find a free testing centre near you, at www.covid19.act.gov.au/testing

17.01.2022 Recently, we talked about the importance of probiotics to overall gut health. Some child-friendly food ideas that contain plenty of probiotics for the gut include: - yogurt... - Kefir (served alone or with fruit) - fermented veggies (like pickles) - Tempeh (made from fermented soy beans) Have you tried any of the above options with your child? You’ll be surprised just how many options they’ll try when you get creative. For example, how about a yogurt or kefir smoothie? Yummy! #paediatricguthealth #childrensguthealth

06.01.2022 ACT Public Health Emergency extended for 90 days, effective until 17 February 2021 Today we announced a further extension of the ACT Public Health Emergency ...for 90 days, effective until 17 February 2021. This decision has been made based on the advice of the ACT Chief Health Officer and recognises the ongoing threat of COVID-19 in Australia. The extension of the emergency declaration will enable the Chief Health Officer to continue to take appropriate action, or give any direction, necessary to protect Canberrans from COVID-19. The unfolding situation in South Australia is another reminder that this pandemic is not over and is an example of how quickly things can change. While we remain in a good position in the ACT, it is likely we will continue to see cases and clusters of COVID-19 across the country. The reality is that this virus will be part of our lives until a vaccine is widely available. While there has been promising news on that front in recent days, responding appropriately to outbreaks will be important for the foreseeable future as we learn to live with COVID-19. We will continue to take a cautious, measured approach to protect the health and safety of Canberrans. This has been a very challenging year for our community and Canberrans have shown great resilience in responding to the challenges presented by COVID-19. To keep our community safe, we must not be complacent. We must remain vigilant and continue to practice the COVID-safe behaviours we have all learnt keep your physical distance, practise good hand hygiene, stay at home if you are unwell and get tested for any COVID-19 symptoms (fever, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, loss of sense of taste or smell, runny or blocked nose). For the nearest free testing clinic, visit www.covid19.act.gov.au/testing

05.01.2022 http://TIME SAVED IS BRAIN SAVED. Share this post! National Stroke Week is from August 31- September 7th. This year the Stroke foundation is asking all Australians to become F.A.S.T. Heroes! F.A.S.T Heroes can save lives, simply by knowing and recognising the F.A.S.T. (Face, Arms, Speech, Time) signs of stroke and calling an ambulance immediately. They know that stroke is always a medical emergency and time is critical. When a stroke happens, brain cells start dying at a frighten...ing rate of up to 1.9 million per minute, but medical treatments can stop this damage. The message is simple Time saved is brain saved. The faster you can be treated after stroke, the more chance you have of making a full recovery. Visit the Stroke foundation website for more details. https://strokefoundation.org.au/ https://vimeo.com/423020759 #nationalstrokeweek #timesavedbrainsaved #strokeawareness #strokeaustralia
