Weight reduction was also carried out and we will monitor and see how this tree progresses. ... Why do we not use bolts When bolts are used to pull the splitting trunks together, you are creating more stress on the tree, more wounds that need to heal, risk infection getting to the cambium layer, plus adding foreign material in to a living specimen. We have found Cable bracing, weight reduction and monitoring have the best success rates on the trees we work on.
