25.01.2022 Toe-walking is a normal gait pattern seen when babies first start walking. Over time, the child progresses from toe-walking to heel-toe contact as they gain exp...erience. Sometimes children continue to toe-walk for congenital and/or sensory reasons. Treatment for toe-walking is actually walking and weight bearing on unusual surfaces. Allow children to go barefoot outdoors on terrain that dips and elevates and offers varying surfaces such as rocky, bumpy, mossy, slippery, rough, etc. This challenges and strengthens the small muscles in the feet and ankle, while providing essential sensory feedback.

24.01.2022 Aussie, Aussie, Aussie!! What a week. We had an Aussie bush bbq in the Home Corner, we cooked wombat stew outside, we dressed up as something Australian and the Eco Faeries visited us to help us look after this wonderful country we live in.

23.01.2022 Investigating the properties of sand and what is the best combination of sand and water to build a sandcastle. We are very proud of our creations.

23.01.2022 WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE A PALEONTOLOGIST WHEN YOU GROW UP? Today we hunted through kindy and found lots of dinosaur bones. We put them together to make a dinosaur. We called our dinosaur "kindyosaurus".

21.01.2022 our beautiful kindy friend has left us but we will never forget what a super hero he was. Fly free Darcy

20.01.2022 Day + 25 FULL STEAM AHEAD! White blood cells 0.22 (norm 4.5-14.5) Neutrophils 0.1 (norm 1.5-8) ... Believe it or not these numbers are HUGE for darc and have been on a steady increase for a couple of days We have been able to reduce his pain medication and recommence his NG tube feeds. Both are huge steps in his recovery. Before we all jump for joy, he has a biopsy next week to check that the cells are all healthy and no nasties regenerating There are no words for how proud we are of this kid. This has been the most excruciating, emotional, exhausting few weeks and he just continues to blow our minds with his resilience and determination. I don’t even care if I sound like a broken record, you Darcy Paul, are one of a kind my boy #DarcyPaul #acutemyeloidleukaemia #doitfordarcy #doitfordarc #AML #leukaemia #childhooddisease #cancer #fighter #warrior #disease #fuckcancer #littleox #hospital #chemo #transplant #bonemarrowtransplant #bonemarrow

17.01.2022 It was a week filled with new life. Our beautiful butterflies emerged from their chrysalis's and we released them into our Spring garden. Then we watched our eggs hatch and out popped the cute fluffy chicks. Spring is a wonderful season of surprises.

16.01.2022 REMISSION Darc’s day 30 biopsy came back and he has 0% disease in his bone marrow! The results of the trephine biopsy will take a little longer but his team ...feel confident that it will be low to no disease and treatable with more of dads magic lymphocyte cells if needed. We’ve also passed 3 days at 0.5 Neutrophil levels which also means ENGRAFTMENT! We still have a journey of weaning off anti rejection medications and keeping him well but this is the absolute best result we could hope for right now And look at him! we’ve got our Darcy back It’s true you know, Hulk’s the strongest! #DarcyPaul #acutemyeloidleukaemia #doitfordarcy #doitfordarc #AML #leukaemia #childhooddisease #cancer #fighter #warrior #disease #fuckcancer #littleox #hospital #chemo #transplant #bonemarrowtransplant #bonemarrow @samkeeley6

16.01.2022 Hillarys Community Kindergarten offers an alternative option to school based kindergarten. We teach the national curriculum in more a flexible and play-based environment. Our approach to learning is proven to prepare children for smooth entry into school, as well as fostering imagination, independence and a life-long love of learning. We are still taking enrolments for 2021, for children who turn 4 between the 1st of July 2020 and the 30th of June 2021.

16.01.2022 Day + 14 We’ve been quiet on socials because it’s been tough to find much to share. Reality is this last week or so has been extremely challenging. Darc’s body ...has been put through the absolute ringer. He’s been sleeping most of his days and struggling with extreme nausea. The mucousitis has meant his throat, stomach and colon are really hurting and he unable to take any food or liquid by mouth. He has been on TPN (total parenteral nutrition) for well over a week now which seems to be doing its job keeping his weight and electrolytes stable. He is needing blood every 2-3 days and platelets every 1-2 days. His liver is a bit unhappy at the moment and this is being watched carefully for VOD (veno-occlusive disease), this is pretty easily treated with extra medication if it becomes an issue. We seemed to have worked out a good pain med combo the last few days and he’s been relatively comfortable and not needing as many top ups as he was previously. He’s had a few short periods of energy where we see our old Darc and he wants to get the nerf guns out or play with his lego figures. These times are keeping us going and we hope this will only increase from here. For now we sit tight and just wait for some recovery in his blood numbers. He’s still completely neutropenic meaning we’re still waiting for engraftment. Doctors are hopeful that we’ll start to see some movement in these numbers by the end of next week #DarcyPaul #acutemyeloidleukaemia #doitfordarcy #doitfordarc #AML #leukaemia #childhooddisease #cancer #fighter #warrior #disease #fuckcancer #littleox #hospital #chemo #transplant #bonemarrowtransplant #bonemarrow

13.01.2022 Is a WORM an insect? We discovered the answer was NO because they don't have 6 legs, 3 body parts and wings. Thankyou to the Worm Shed in Chittering for bringing all of your wiggly friends down for us to meet. We had so much fun especially when we got to set up our own mini worm farm. We also have a worm farm at kindy now to help recycle all of our food scraps. With small steps we are working as a team to save our planet. Good job Dolphins.

12.01.2022 A bitter sweet day. 8 weeks ago we didn’t think we’d even be here, but that doesn’t make it any easier to walk back through the hospital doors knowing it could ...be months before we come out again. Today is day -8 until Darc’s bone marrow transplant and it could not come sooner. We found out recently that his disease was yet again on the move and changing to become resistant to the most recent chemo drugs It is now a race against his disease to overpower it before it grows further. I’m not sure if you’re ever actually ready to face what we’re having to, but we are as ready as we’ll ever be. You can do this my little Ox! Mum was too emotional/present/busy to take any photos today, so instead here is one that will keep us going for as long as we need to #DarcyPaul #acutemyeloidleukaemia #doitfordarcy #doitfordarc #AML #leukaemia #childhooddisease #cancer #fighter #warrior #disease #fuckcancer #littleox #hospital #chemo See more

11.01.2022 Day -1. Tomorrow is the big day, day 0. 10.01.2022 #Repost @speechwithalextrichilo Step away from the Flashcards... I know there are so many pretty flashcards on the market at the moment. There are some seriousl...y talented illustrators creating stunning pictures for them. But I need to tell you some hard truths about flashcards: They enable a child only to memorise what's on the card e.g. One specific shade of green. Knowing the alphabet is pointless without context and it is unnecessary at a young age Knowledge learnt from flashcards is very limited and results in the brain storing that knowledge with few connections to other knowledge. Academic knowledge of the alphabet, numbers, shapes and colours is not an essential skill prior to school Time spent doing flashcards could have been spent playing or exploring - language learnt during play is stored faster and more effectively in the brain, and requires less repetition. The richer the experience you can provide for your child, the stronger and more varied the neural connections in the brain. As a result, that knowledge is then easier to access when the child needs it because they have multiple pathways to retrieve it. My 4 year old daughter doesn't know her alphabet but she uses so many fantastic words that could never be learnt from a flashcard e.g. Beautiful, delicious, actually, probably, and unbelievable. What's something your child knows that couldn't be learnt from a flashcard? Brag away mamas!

08.01.2022 OUTDOOR CLASSROOM DAY - 05/11/2020 What a great day of fun, fresh air and learning!!!

07.01.2022 Pampering our wonderful mums because they missed out on Mothers Day this year. Lots of hand washing to keep the germs away

07.01.2022 DAY ZERO. The day we were told he wouldn’t get to. Well he bloody did and conquered today as well Dad’s bones were rich in healthy cells and condensed down... nicely to a quick infusion. Mum cried, Dad tried not to fall over from the pain meds and Darc napped through the whole thing I have never been prouder or more grateful for you @samkeeley6 What a lucky boy Darc is to soon have your blood in his veins Thank you to everyone who has called, messaged and shared words of strength and support. Sometimes this ride is too wild to be able to get back to everyone but we do read them and appreciate every single one of you. NOW WE WAIT #DarcyPaul #acutemyeloidleukaemia #doitfordarcy #doitfordarc #AML #leukaemia #childhooddisease #cancer #fighter #warrior #disease #fuckcancer #littleox #hospital #chemo

07.01.2022 Music, music, music!! We fill our days with singing and music and happiness fills our centre. We are learning to keep the beat with our musical instruments.

05.01.2022 A BIG thanks to Robert Ford for making us an amazing car for kindy. We will have lots of adventures riding around on this machine!!

04.01.2022 Be kind to me this Christmasfrom a little person's point of view: - You've probably let me eat more sugar than usual. I'm bound to have higher highs and lower ...lows. - In the holidays I'm out of routine. I can cope better with transitions when I know exactly what's coming next, so please explain our plans for the day clearly to me. - The anticipation of Christmas can be pretty overwhelming and exhausting. Help me to rest by keeping to my normal bedtimes. - Travelling at Christmas is stressful for all of us. When possible, be flexible about when we travel and check the traffic before we leave. - I have no idea about the value of money. If there's no way I can have that giant Lego set for Christmas, then please tell me well before Christmas morning. I'll have time to get over my disappointment, and I'll learn to trust your honesty. - Grown-ups find preparing for Christmas stressful. I know you want it to be perfect for me so I'll have memories I can cherish forever. But I see you getting stressed, sometimes even before you do. I pick up on it and reflect it like a mirror. Please slow down, notice me, talk to me, play with me. That's what I'll remember. - When I lose itand I probably will at some pointplease don't make me ashamed of my feelings by shouting at me. I never set out to deliberately disappoint you and I didn't try to ruin your Christmas. I'm really not that calculated. I'm just a little person whose brain deals with stress in different ways to yours. Please try to understand me, from my point of view. And when all else fails, wrap your arms around me and hold me so I feel the strength of your love. Shared via Esther's Childminding

03.01.2022 Thankyou so much to West Oz Wildlife for visiting us and bringing your amazing animals. We are so lucky to be able to pet Australian animals in our own kindy.

01.01.2022 Children have so much to offer. I don’t know why we are so obsessed with letters and numbers and rote learning. If we just listened to their natural speech as they tackle their world we would learn so much more about how their brain is wired. Slow down and take time to listen.
