24.01.2022 There are some photo's that make you smile and think that all the hard work is worth it. Especially when you see a picture of somebody back doing something that they absolutely live for... Given this person lives on the other side of the world, there are no boundaries... Thanks for pic. You are very VERY welcome... :)

21.01.2022 We are very happy to announce that Dr Wilma Johnson has commenced our mobile dental service to aged care facilities, seeing and treating people that are unable to travel to our clinic. Despite studies showing that we are living longer and retaining our teeth more than ever before, for people living in aged care facilities, nursing homes, and those with disabilities they often struggle to access high quality and affordable dental care. As a consequence decreased salivary flow..., higher decay rates, dental infections, pain, bleeding gums, and poor nutrition from being unable to eat properly, becomes an ever increasing problem for these people. With complex medical histories and for those often taking multiple medications, dental problems for this group can create significant impacts on the persons health and well being, and even contributing to conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, chronic fatigue, and compromising the immune system. There were over 3million people in Australia aged 65 and over, and this figure is growing at around 13% every ten years. As a result of the ageing process we begin to enter a phase of life that requires more professional dental intervention than ever before, and when people reside in aged care facilities, when proper dental care becomes difficult, ineffective or even impossible. Until recently. Our aim at the Hobart Orofacial Pain and Special Needs Clinic is to make dentistry affordable and accessible, and to reverse the inequities to oral health care for people who find it difficult to access regular dental care and treatment. By proving a mobile service we hope to improve the comfort, function, health, and daily lives of residents within aged care facilities. All services are provided at the Department of Veterans’ Affairs Schedule of Dental Fees which provide residents of aged care facilities significant reduction of costs compared with typical private fees. Please see our page on Aged Dental Care or contact our rooms by telephone for further information.

20.01.2022 A great meeting last night If we can manage to pull this off, our proposal to provide dental care for residents in aged care facilities will be a monumental shift away from the typical fee for service dental treatment. This will be a very first for Tasmania, if not Australia. And a fantastic step toward providing the elderly in residential aged care with regular and importantly, affordable all encompassing dental care. :) Very exciting to say the least.

15.01.2022 We are incredibly pleased to announce the launch of our new website that has been completely revamped, redesigned, and rebuilt. In addition, we have changed the name of our practice from simply Dr Tony Eldridge to Hobart Orofacial Pain and Special Needs Clinic. The reasons are several. First we decided that our old website was looking 'a bit dated'. Despite regularly receiving positive comments from people all over the country, and even from overseas about how informative ou...r website was, we felt that we could do it even better. Keeping away from a standard clinical website full of pictures of pretty smiles and sterile clinical rooms, our highest priority was to design a website that was informative, up to date with the latest best practice medicine and dentistry, very easy through which to navigate, allowing downloads and links to useful information, and importantly to impart the same feeling of calmness, relaxation, and tranquility that we have adopted here at our rooms. And needless to say, to advertise Tasmania for all the beauty it presents, as many header pictures are from the East Coast, the Central Highlands, Cradle Mountain, and around Hobart. In addition to the information from our previous website, we have added a few more pages to the Home, About, TMJ, and Snoring Sleep Apnoea sections. These include snoring and sleep apnoea disorders in children, botox for TMJ pain and headaches, a health and well being section, and an interstate and overseas contact list. We have also expanded our oral surgery pages to include a section on implants, tongue ties, and wisdom teeth removal. An exciting expansion to our practice however, is our continued desire to assist those people less fortunate than ourselves including people with special needs such as the elderly and those suffering from dementia and Alzheimer's, and the intellectually and physically disabled. Furthermore, we have a passion for seeing and treating people who suffer dental anxiety, fears, and phobia. It is incredibly rewarding to helping those overcome their fears and be able to have dental treatment conducted. This is our new section on Special Needs Dentistry and Dental Phobias. Hence, our name change to the Hobart Orofacial Pain and Special Needs Clinic. And lastly, we now offer a sedation service not presently available anywhere else in Tasmania to all those persons who would prefer not to, or cannot, have regular dental treatment in the chair. There are many techniques to providing sedation to people that help alleviate their fear or anxiety, and allow pain and worry free dental treatment, without the need to be admitted to hospital. We hope you find our new website and scope of practice as informative and useful as we believe it is. Kind Regards Dr T

07.01.2022 Accessing regular dental care for many families is a rapidly growing luxury item that is out of reach due to ever increasing costs of living. For those people on low incomes, pensions, the unemployed, or people with disabilities, most are eligible for health care and concession cards and are very welcome to access our affordable dental care. At our clinic we understand that there are many more people and families that may not qualify for these cards, but still cannot access a... regular general dentist simply due to the cost. We are happy to announce that we have expanded our offer of affordable dentistry to those people such as single parents, persons eligible under the cleft lip and cleft palate scheme, carers and families of people with disabilities or chronic illness, Newstart allowance recipients, persons recently released from prison, and persons with refugee, permanent protection and humanitarian visas. For any person or family that does not fit this criteria, but finds themselves in the very unfortunate situation of not being able to afford regular general dental care, Dr Wilma Johnson is more than happy to discuss with you where we may be able to help in any way we can.

01.01.2022 We are very happy to announce that the HOFP and SNC was recently the recipient of a Wrigley's grant of $6000 to help us upgrade our facility to provide a wheelchair ramp, handrail, and new wider entrance door. This will allow better wheel chair access for our disabled and elderly patients, improve the safety for people when entering and exiting our practice (especially in wet weather), and provide aged care residents that are immobile to be transported to and treated in our rooms on a mobile bed. This will be the very first service of its kind ever to occur in Tasmania for aged care residents. Very exciting.!
