Fingerprick elimination Factory calibration means no fingerpricks are needed during sensor wear or for diabetes treatment decisions. 19.01.2022 Today we are one step closer to gaining affordable access to CGM and Flash Glucose monitoring for all people with type 1 diabetes. Big thanks to all the organis...ations who have worked so hard on this including the Australian Diabetes Society, Australian Diabetes Educators Association, JDRF Australia Australasian Paediatric Endocrine Group-APEG, Diabetes Queensland, Diabetes NSW & ACT, Diabetes Victoria and Diabetes Tasmania. And big thanks to all the people with diabetes and their families and supporters who wrote letters, met with their MPs, spoke to the media and generally did the hard work of raising awareness. In 2016, there were no subsidies to help people with type 1 diabetes access CGM. Fast forward four years and the Australian Government has expanded free access to CGM three times. Half of all Australians with type 1 diabetes can now access CGM and flash glucose monitoring technology. For free. But there are still thousands of Australians who can’t use CGM or flash because they can’t afford it. That’s why we will keep working with Australia's diabetes communicating, advocating until all Australians with diabetes who need it have affordable access. #fightforflash #cgmforall #wearenotdoneyet

19.01.2022 Today, we are issuing a wakeup call to Australia. The type 2 diabetes epidemic is overwhelming Australia’s hospitals. We’ll be releasing figures from a new stud...y that found that people with the condition accounted for around one-third of all hospitalisations. The study at Austin Health, a major tertiary health service in Melbourne’s north-east, found that 34% of patients had diabetes (mostly type 2 diabetes). Surprisingly, 5% of these people had silent, undiagnosed type 2 diabetes that was only detected after they were admitted to hospital. Diabetes Australia CEO Professor Greg Johnson believes Australia has to act now to improve early detection of all types of diabetes and reduce the very high rate of diabetes-related admissions to Australia’s hospitals. Diabetes will cripple our health system unless we take urgent, comprehensive action and that’s why we are saying ‘It’s About Time’ people get checked for type 2 diabetes early, and ‘It’s About Time’ our health system got serious about reducing the high rate of hospital admissions for diabetes, Professor Johnson said. 07.01.2022 Have you had your say in relation to the subsidy of diabetes products listed on the National Diabetes Service Scheme (NDSS)? The government is seeking feedback from the public to help with future decision making in regards to additional products that could be considered for subsidisation. Personally, I would like to see continuous glucose monitoring systems (CGMS) & flash glucose monitoring (Libre) subsidised for anyone taking insulin. What are you thoughts?... Anyone affected by diabetes including health care professionals, family members and friends can have their say by following the link below. The survey closes on the 25th of August 2019.
