25.01.2022 New Acquisition.... We are delighted to share an exciting new addition to the Collection. Hayley Millar-Baker's '(Untitled) Knock him out of the tree and put him on the stove' part I & II from the series 'Cook Book' 2018, inkjet print on cotton rag paper, diptych 55cm x 110cm. Hayley draws from her grandfather’s photographic archive, family albums and from her own photographs captured on and off Country. Through the combination of photography, story telling and language her... work enacts a powerful social commentary that is disarming and thought provoking. The 'Cook Book' series considers how Western implements have become part of Indigenous cultural practices in day-to-day activities through a play on language that acts as a narration. It is through the translation of phrases and instructions that Cook Book emphasizes how our timeless practices and knowledges have evolved to ensure cultural continuity in the 21st Century, despite the immeasurable changes around us. 24.01.2022 The Horsham Town Hall and Art Gallery were thrilled to work closely with Goolum Goolum Aboriginal Cooperative in 2019 to develop and display the NAIDOC Week Art Exhibition at the Town Hall venue. The project took off and grew and grew, expanding into more spaces and running longer than expected. The exhibition discovered new talent, improved mental health, wellbeing and relationships and recognised and celebrated our community. Even though the Horsham Town Hall is currently closed to the public, the 2020 NAIDOC Week Art Exhibition is still happening.. and can be viewed externally on the glass windows running along the east side of the Town Hall complex from November 8.

18.01.2022 Introducing our new exhibition, Michael Cook, "Livin' the Dream" as part of Photo 2021 International Festival of Photography program. Michael Cook offers a retake on Australian history by imagining a contemporary Indigenous community with Aboriginals living the lifestyle prescribed by white norms. Carefully choreographed images reflect on notions of truth and identity and consider how art and images shape history and cultural memory. Highlighting disjuncture between the reali...ty of Indigenous life and the white Australian dream/ideal, he raises the questions ‘what makes a person civilised?’ The images explore the ongoing effects of colonisation and cultural marginalisation, suggesting how different history might have been if those Europeans had realised that the Aborigines were indeed civilised. Image: Livin’ the dream (BBQ), 2020, inkjet print on archival Hahnemuhle cotton rag 120 x 180cm, edition of 8 + 2 APs Image courtesy of the artist and THIS IS NO FANTASY.
