25.01.2022 What would you say if we told you this horse is in full race work and on the comeback trail to make a return to racing after being retired due to injury? In his "real job" M2 is known as Sunofatrump, a rising 9YO gelding by Tennotrump who has won six of 71 starts as a trotter and almost $46,000 in prizemoney. Dad Paul has been slowly building up M2's fitness and is pretty optimistic he's going to get back to the track after an absence of two and a half years.... Meanwhile daughter Holi has put in many long hours educating "her horse" under saddle and has her eyes firmly set on showjumping success. Watch this space for further updates! #everybodyneedsahero #lifeduringracing #temperamentiseverything #didsomeonesayversatile

25.01.2022 Anna Rocks, aka Annabell, is definitely finding her groove as a riding horse. We love the ears in this clip, alert and attentive, regularly checking in with her rider for support and reinforcement which is exactly what we would hope for at this stage of her retraining. It's incredibly rewarding when we see our HEROES in training transition from uncertainty to really start enjoying their new job. #everybodyneedsahero #lifeafterracing #zerotohero

25.01.2022 When racing spreads its arms out into the community .... love this from our great friends at Alabar Farms. And what an amazing job the team at We Are Vivid has done. #notallheroeswearcapes #racingpeoplecare

25.01.2022 A Standie baby in Europe? No ... a new season foal born on the outskirts of Ballarat in September. What a crazy year we are experiencing.

25.01.2022 Very exciting news for our retrainer Elle. HERO is proud to support this exciting new stage in her business life.

25.01.2022 The delightful Maverick (race name Shark Bait) - an unraced 4YO gelding by Four Starzzz Shark - is now available for rehoming. Maverick has been a long term project for the team at The Horse Workshop who were incredibly patient as he learned what was required in his new role and gained the important life experience he had missed due to his age and inexperience on the track. Please contact Mark and Di at The Horse Workshop (located at Bass, Vic) directly if you would like to ...know more, or to arrange a time to meet Mav. #everybodyneedsahero #lifeafterracing #racingpeoplecare #zerotohero

25.01.2022 We don't discriminate when it comes to beautiful #lifeafterracing stories and this one is incredibly special. Do yourself a favour and take the time to watch. #racingpeoplecare

24.01.2022 Awesome stuff from our friends in Nz #lifeafterracing

24.01.2022 Goodness we have a talented line up of HERO recruits in training. Mista had decided he was no longer interested in racing - clearly he had aspirations of making his mark on the world under saddle. Week two only in his training! #lifeafterracing #everybodyneedsahero #temperamentiseverything

24.01.2022 The perfect end to the week - an update on our newest addition to the Jason Dins training team and another really lovely HERO pony. Smoulder didn't even get a race name, let alone grace the track for as much as a trial, but is doing all the right things in phase two of his life. He's an 8YO son of Courage Under Fire and has a wonderful temperament and trainable attitude.... We're looking forward to further updates as he progresses in his HERO retraining journey. #everybodyneedsahero #lifeafterracing #zerotohero

24.01.2022 Really pleased to provide this super positive update on Graemes Wish, aka Lenny. Every HERO horse is given the time and space they need to find their feet in their new life. #everybodyneedsahero #lifeafterracing #zerotohero

23.01.2022 Things you definitely do not want to see on an equine pregnancy scan. Fortunately the racing industry is incredibly vigilant when it comes to multiple embryos and has the skills and knowledge to protect the mare's health by ensuring she carries just one precious baby. #racingpeoplecare

23.01.2022 Enormously proud to see the fantastic work our friends in NZ are doing to promote Standardbred life after racing. HERO has a brilliant relationship with our namesake on the other side of the Tasman and we have been only to pleased to share our experience and knowledge to help with the development of a formal Standardbred re-education and rehoming program in NZ. #everybodyneedsahero #lifeafterracing #standiescan

23.01.2022 HERO was so incredibly thrilled to be able to tell Banker and Holly's story as a part of the 7mate harness racing coverage on New Year's Eve. Banker raced as Artful Christian and had his career on the track cut short by a freak accident. His doting connections - owner Peter Svanosio and his son Chris who trained the horse - nursed Banker back to health over a period of 12 months to ensure he was sound enough to enjoy a fruitful life after racing.... He then transitioned through HERO via Cobé Lodge Limited where Holly fell head over heels in love. #everybodyneedsahero #racingpeoplecare #fortheloveofthehorse

23.01.2022 What a magic update. Apatchy Rebel was very much loved by his racing owners and continues to win hearts in his life after racing. These follow up reports truly warm out hearts. #everybodyneedsahero #lifeafterracing

22.01.2022 We are so excited to be supporting the second annual Standardbred Dressage Derby as a part of this year's HyGain Tatura Dressage Classic and Spring Showcase (in summer, shhh). The Derby will be held at Tatura Park Equestrian Centre this Sunday, December 6 from 5.30pm and a livestream will be available via the event FB page. A small number of spectators will be permitted for those who may be interested in attending. ... The concept is very simple - six invited Standardbreds are allocated six dressage riders via a random draw (see the below video). The riders have 30 minutes warm up to get to know their horse before presenting an EA Dressage Test before the judge. The event is proudly sponsored by Harness Racing Victoria via the HERO Program. We are enormously indebted to Sue Terry for her passionate commitment to showcasing Standardbreds and demonstrating their amazing temperament and versatility. #everybodyneedsahero #lifeafterracing #standiescandressage

22.01.2022 Learn a little more about HERO retrainer Elle Moro of Hilltop Horsemanship. With thanks to Paul Campbell for his support.

21.01.2022 UPDATED 08.07 20 We are often asked "What horses are currently available through the HERO Program?" The quickest and easiest way to see the horses In Training and For Sale is via the HERO website www.hrvhero.com.au... Click on Horses to find the current listing, then on an individual horse's name to view a full profile. The website is updated weekly so you can be assured that the information provided is as current as possible. Remember, if you are interested in additional information, contact the HERO Retrainer directly. If you wish to inspect a horse, a formal Expression of Interest Form must be completed. HERO is open for inspections and test rides however those living in currently locked down locations CANNOT attend. We continue to adhere to appropriate COVID19 social distancing and hygiene measures. Please remember that we request no more than two people attend inspections.

21.01.2022 The handsome thorn between two roses is our very own HERO Beach Boy Adios, Kenny to his friends, who is truly living the life. Retiring at age 12 after a career spanning 210 race starts (28 wins, $276k), Kenny was adopted by a thoroughbred breeder earlier this year. He has just completed his first stint as a weanling nanny and is currently holidaying with two lovely ladies, helping to generate their enthusiasm for a pending date with a TB stallion.... Kenny absolutely loves "his ladies" but equally proved to be a great mate to his young protégé. We think this is just the perfect retirement for a racetrack warrior who gave so much for so long and deserves to enjoy a useful but sedate #lifeafterracing

20.01.2022 HERO is very proud and excited to announce that we are partnering with Show Horse Council of Victoria in 2021 to build showing opportunities for retired Standardbreds. Keep your eyes peeled for the SHCV HOTY Program which is due on line next week and a full Standardbred Ring as a part of an OTT Showcase. We cannot thank President Glenys Triffett and her Committee enough for making the approach and inviting HERO to participate in what it is hoped will be the first of four even...ts incorporating Standardbred classes in 2021. Our plans also include retraining days jointly targetted at OTT TB and STB owners - a welcome opportunity to work co-operatively to promote life after racing across both equine codes.

20.01.2022 A very Merry Christmas to the amazing HERO community. Thank you for your extraordinary support in 2020. Enjoy this special time with those closest to you (human and equine). ... And most importantly stay safe. We are taking a short break but will be back on deck and ready to jump into 2021 on Monday January 4. #jinglealltheway

20.01.2022 We do love us an ISO haircut, undertaken at home, by someone possibly not that qualified to do it. You're not alone Elvis. #rockon #everybodyneedsahero #lifeafterracing #zerotohero

20.01.2022 Can you imagine this guy in 12 months' time? Just wow! #everybodyneedsahero #lifeafterracing #standiescandressage

20.01.2022 Introducing Im the Boss prepared by Mitch Fox and Brooke Sweeney from Fox Equestrain, he will be ridden in the Derby by Emmalee Weston photo by Mitch Fox. Im th...e Boss is a 9yr son of Major in Art that is a multiple Country Cup winner, including the Neatline Homes Shepparton Gold Cup. He is best known coming up through the claiming ranks to run in the Interdomion Series in Melbourne. Boss retired just after his Interdomion runs due to injury, he has been rehabilitated to now become a saddle horse with this being his first appearance in this Derby. He will now be set on a show career with Fox Equestrain. See more

20.01.2022 Delightful Lenny (racing name Graemes Wish). So kind and people-oriented, going beautifully in the early weeks of his #lifeafterracing education. Lenny was bred, owned and raced by the same family, so its been an adjustment for him to relocate and take on something entirely new and foreign, but he's going oh so well. #everybodyneedsahero #herotozero #temperamentiseverything

19.01.2022 Introducing Capo Dei Capi, owned by Tegan Cass and ridden in the Derby by Julie Scougall starting at 5.30 pm. Photo and intro by Tegan Cass Capo Dei Capi, kn...own to many as Barney is a 2013 gelding by Rocks out of Lombo Janelle whom only saw the racetrack twice due to being too slow. I acquired him through race trainer, Brad Costello, in 2017 where our roller coaster of a journey begun. Barney is a fun and quirky horse that certainly has a presence about him everywhere he goes. we have started our career under saddle together with success at each show we've been to and aim to hit the dressage arena very soon. My goal with Barney is to reach Advanced Level Dressage with him and hopefully make an appearance in the eventing world too. I heard about the Standardbred Derby that Hygain Tatura Dressage Classic is holding through Facebook and couldn't wait to be apart of it. This is such a fantastic opportunity to not only see another rider compete my horse but to show other riders how versatile this breed can be. Proud to announce we are sponsored by Farmalogic Equine and Shaype Equine Accessories See more

19.01.2022 More fabulous Standie love from the RDA community. This time the team in Bendigo. #lifeafterracing

16.01.2022 Paperwork received from a young trainer this morning for a future HERO. "Deserves retirement". Not a champion by any stretch but 7 wins and $51k in prize money all the same, and loved and appreciated by his racing connections.... #racingpeoplecare #lifeafterracing #everybodyneedsahero

16.01.2022 The smiling faces made this weekend's big trip to the Mildura Pacing Cup entirely worthwhile for the HERO Ambassador Team - headlined by our amazing equine mates Villagem (Tas) and Waikare Aristocrat (Toff). HERO would like to extend a very big and very heartfelt thank you to Michelle Phillips who jumped out of the cart and into the saddle to partner Toff. We also sincerely thank Connie and Steve who stepped in to fill a huge void and were incredibly accommodating, generous a...nd enthusiastic about supporting the Ambassador Team. We honestly could not have survived the night without you. Finally to local trainer Ian Watson who generously put up the boys for the night and treated them like his own horses. So very kind. 16.01.2022 We've be planning and sitting and waiting and hoping. And now it's happening! After creating big waves in 2019 the Standies are set to kick the stereotypes in the butt again at this year's HyGain Tatura Dressage Classic and Spring Showcase Congratulations to the 2020 invitees.... #everybodyneedsahero #lifeafterracing #standiescan

16.01.2022 New HERO alert .... we welcome Graemes Wish aka Lenny to the HERO family thanks to trainer Len Maher. A very moderately performed trotter on the track who is making super progress in the early days of his #lifeafterracing #everybodyneedsahero #zerotohero

15.01.2022 IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT HERO had been waiting patiently for the release of the Show Horse Council Victoria Program for a proposed event on January 31, incorporating an Off The Track Showcase and Standardbred ring. We have received word that there are some significant administrative challenges which have accounted for the delay in releasing the Program for the show and recent developments have now jeopardised the entire event's future.... On the basis of this information, it has been decided not to proceed with the Standardbred ring. We feel that the current uncertainty and limited timeframe make it untenable to progress with planning. We understand this is a disappointing outcome for all, including HERO. We have been very excited about developing new opportunities for Standardbred owners in partnership with SHCV. We wish SHCV all the best as it works through its current challenges and remain optimistic there may be a chance to revisit a partnership in the future. Thank you for your understanding and support. We will now turn our attention to formalising the Standardbred Program for Barastoc HOTY on February 14 which had been in limbo pending the SHCV Show.

14.01.2022 Rory will be on site at the HERO exhibit at Seymour Alternative Farming Expo this Friday.

14.01.2022 Hoping to help our friends at Alabar Farms. If anyone has a mare who may be suitable, please make contact. We can certainly endorse that she will have the very best care.

13.01.2022 Welcome Mista Lombo to the HERO family, a beautifully kind and gentle gelding donated by our dear friend and supporter Mick Lombardo. Mista is 100% sound - he simply decided he was no longer interested in being a racehorse. Exciting times ahead. #everybodyneedsahero #lifeafterracing

13.01.2022 Who doesn't love a summer holiday by the sea ..... Do you think HERO favourite Tiz A Masterpiece USA looks fairly content in his home away from home with the fabulous team at Grantville Lodge? He's got a glorious undulating paddock in which to roam, gorgeous ocean views over Wilson's Promontory, a Standie mate to share the love and a doting foster family which extends to visiting school children.... HERO is so very blessed and grateful to have the support of Belinda and Matt at Grantville Lodge. Jump over to their FB page and check out the amazing facilities, especially if you are looking for a brilliant venue for a group getaway. You can give Tiz a pat while you're there! 13.01.2022 Introducing Mighty Boy Lombo, owned by Becky McGee, will be ridden by Jodi Dobson starting at 5.30 on Sunday. Photo and intro by Becky McGee I have had mouse f...or 7years now. Our amazing partnership began when he was just 5 years old and fresh off the track. With very limited facilities and no direction it took us 12 months to truely find our feet Together we do a bit of everything but Mouses true love is for jumping! And he tries his heart out at whatever I throw him into. He is not without his quirks but is by far the biggest character of a horse I have ever known. Coming from Scotland I have never had anything to do with Standardbreds having had the journey I have with Mouse I would never underestimate their ability. See more

13.01.2022 Im The Boss was a superstar of the track and looks every inch the show pony in making as he transitions to the next phase of his life. Is it coincidental that Fox Equestrian has bobbed up with a lovely off the track Standardbred? Watch this space! #everybodyneedsahero #lifeafterracing #standiescanshow

12.01.2022 We are absolutely over the moon for Mista and Cindy who has been a long-time HERO follower and waited incredibly patiently for "Mr Right" to come along. We know Mista is going to be entirely cherished and enjoyed which is everything we could hope for this total gentleman. #happilyeverafter #everybodyneedsahero #lifeafterracing

12.01.2022 A belated but none the less very warm welcome to HERO - Anna Rocks, aka Annabell - a 2015 daughter of Rocknroll Hanover who had just one race start in May 2018 for a last placing, beaten 131 metres. The ultimate #zerotohero! Annabell is cute as a button and a very desirable height and looks every inch the riding pony under saddle. We love her bold star! #everybodyneedsahero #lifeafterracing

12.01.2022 On this day five years ago, an Aussie pacer and a girl from Great Western beat the Kiwi's in their biggest race of the year and became the toast of a nation. Good times .....

11.01.2022 Regular HERO followers will know we are BIG fans of a photo comparison. Here's Vae Victus, aka Dylan, who is now a permanent member of the Cobé Lodge Limited family. We're not in the business of making judgements, so lets just say that it would appear he has settled himself very nicely into #lifeafterracing and let down sufficiently to be considered "comfortably retired". ... #everybodyneedsahero #fosterfail #livingthelife #werenotsayingthefword Alabar Farms

11.01.2022 A very big, warm welcome to Mitch & Brooke from Fox Equestrian who have joined the HERO family. We're incredibly excited and enthusiastic about this project.... Note: Part Two of the video is in the comments. #everybodyneedsahero #lifeafterracing #standiescanshow.

09.01.2022 Yesterday we picked up future HERO Rory who is the newest visitor to our dear friend Theresa's beautiful property. Theresa is a horse lover and recreational Standardbred owner who didn't want to commit to long term ownership of a second riding horse but has the space, feed and time to foster an aspiring HERO. It's the generosity and passion of people like Theresa who come to us quietly behind scenes wanting to contribute to HERO and Standardbred life after racing that inspires us to be the best we can be. We are so very grateful and humbled. Thank you. #everybodyneedsahero #lifeafterracing

09.01.2022 Love, love, love. HERO graduate Sportzpak looking a million dollars and living the #lifeafterracing dream. #everybodyneedsahero

07.01.2022 If we could package up and tie a bow around the perfect Standardbred life after racing home, the truly delightful Sesto Calende (aka Amico) has found it. An unraced trotting bred gelding, he shone under saddle from day one and is proving to be the ultimate allround riding pony. An amazing way to kick off what we feel sure is going to be another brilliant week. Happy Monday! #everybodyneedsahero #lifeafterracing #zerotohero #standycandy

07.01.2022 A quick shout out to those who have inquired recently regarding show programs for HERO sponsored events in the New Year. A big shout out to the guys at The Safety Specialist. We set them a pretty sizable challenge and they've taken it on with gusto.

06.01.2022 Curious to know a little bit more about this weekend's Standardbred Derby at Tatura. Meet Anna Rocks, aka Annabel, a four-year-old by Rock N Roll Heaven who didn't place in her only race start in May, 2018. Annabel retired sound, comes to HERO in magnificent order and is a great type of mare, standing around 15hh.... 05.01.2022 On Sunday HERO was invited to fulfil a very special role, delivering Santa himself to the Rochester & District Horse & Pony Club for the Christmas Rally. HERO Ambassador Waikare Aristocrat, aka Toff, was an absolute star as always and we were lucky to have the expert hands of Graham McDermott in the sulky to ferry the jolly fat guy (can you even say that these days?). It was such a joy to be involved and see so many happy smiling faces. Made our day. #everybodyneedsahero #lifeafterracing #racingpeoplegivingback

04.01.2022 With apologies for the sound quality but too precious not to share. Jack Gale is in his 80s and vision impaired. Together with his wife Linda he travelled from Yarrawonga to visit Majestic Action (also know as Victor while in HERO retraining) at Cobe Lodge today. Jack and Linda bred and raced Action and maintain a huge fondness for the handsome trotter. It truly warmed our hearts to see the couple reunited with their horse. #everybodyneedsahero #lifeafterracing #racingpeoplecare Harness Racing Victoria

03.01.2022 Why do we often cry when our HERO horses leave the Program? Because our retrainers treat them as their own and form bonds that neither distance nor time can break. 6YO mare Jess didn't have a race name and never made it to the track.... She had a trotting dad (Downunder Muscles) and a pacing bred mum (Princess Yum Yum) who raced as a trotter but Jess wasn't much good at either gait - in harness. She has been an absolute delight throughout her re education which has spanned a period of time as Fiona is one of our retrainers who works with one horse at a time and fits them in around her busy schedule. What a lovely result for all concerned. #everybodyneedsahero #lifeafterracing #zerotohero #racingpeoplecare Tracy Loftus

03.01.2022 Although it will look a little different to the norm, the HERO Program is pleased to be a part of tomorrow afternoon (Sunday's) Cobram Pacing Cup meeting. HERO Ambassador Im The Boss has accepted an invitation to lead out the 2021 Cup field in harness, three years after he tasted success in the event. The Cobram victory kick started a Country Cups rampage for the son of Major In Art.... He went on to notch Group 2 wins in the $70,000 Kilmore Pacing Cup, $50,000 Mildura Cup and $50,000 Shepparton Gold Cup. Boss retired after contesting the 2018 Inter Dominion Series in Melbourne with a career record of 19 wins and $238,000 in stake earnings. He recently commenced his new life under saddle and trainer Mitch Fox has aspirations of replicating his racing success on the show circuit. Please note that due to Covid restrictions, Boss will unfortunately be unable to fulfil meet and greet duties with the public at Cobram. #everybodyneedsahero #lifeafterracing #countrycupsstar Cobram Harness Racing Club Harness Racing Victoria AIKEN Racing Kima Frenning
