21.01.2022 Leading researcher Professor Alexandra Sinclairfrom the University of Birmingham’s Institute ofMetabolism and Systems Research has been awarded 1.68m to fund research into intracranial hypertension (raised brain pressure), and develop a new treatment for Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension (IIH), a rare condition that causes disabling headaches and can lead to blindness. The award from the Sir Jules Thorn Charitable Trust will cover a 5-year programme focussing on IIH, w...hich is most common in women with obesity, and has an incidence that is rising dramatically in line with the global rise in obesity. The programme of research is also expected to reveal mechanisms behind other conditions that feature raised brain pressure, such as traumatic brain injury and hydrocephalus and also has the potential to help treat raised intracranial pressure associated with space flight. https://www.pharmiweb.com//birmingham-researcher-awarded-1
19.01.2022 Conclusions Retinal venule diameter decreased, and arteriole diameter did not change in association with treatment for elevated ICP with a weight loss interven...tion and placebo or acetazolamide in IIHTT participants. Further study is needed to determine how retinal vessel measurements can be combined with other clinical observations to inform disease management. https://bjo.bmj.com///2020/01/15/bjophthalmol-2019-314648

13.01.2022 The researchers found that IIH patients had a very different profile of raised levels of androgens compared to women of a similar age with obesity and women with PCOS. Most notable were the high levels of the androgen ‘testosterone’ found in the blood in IIH women. Crucially, levels of androgens were uniquely increased in the brain fluid (CSF) of women with IIH. https://www.birmingham.ac.uk//excess-hormones-blindness-II
13.01.2022 Redditor User_browser made a 3D printed lamp out of his brain from a full MRI scan. He gives instructions on how to do it in his reddit post, linked below if anyone want to give it a go. There are links to software, and all you will need is a full brain scan on CD. And patience. Your local library may have a 3D printer if you want to print it out. https://www.reddit.com//i_recently_had_a_full_head_mri_u/
