21.01.2022 Here's a reminder from Big Russ about the Illawarra Folk Club concert on Friday, 6 Mar at 7pm at The Vault in Port Kembla: "We are going to the Vault- No! it's ...not to see if we can nick a million dollars but to be part of a concert that's worth a million dollars. Alistair Brown from Cornwall (and yes he'll sing in English not Cornish) will be joined by our own local Fiddledance led by the evergreen Dave Oliphant. Oh! I'd better tell you where the vault is It's slap bang in the middle of Port Kembla- 72-74 Wentworth St. The good thing is that it is licensed (it sells booze) and meals (and coffee and tea and all that stuff) It opens at 6pm so you can order food etc before the entertainment starts. 19.01.2022 Great entertainment at Figgy Folk Session last night at Figgy Pub. This was the 56th FFS, and we're into our sixth year (yay!) - kicking off in November 2014. O...f course, we will continue into 2020 and the next one will be 20th January; the day after the 2020 Illawarra Folk Festival concludes. Last night we had Jonathan, Tessa, Zlatko's Balkan Trio, Sam & Danny (FFS debutants), Illawarra Flame Three, Treva, John T, Jessica, Jocean, Russell, Neil, Wayne (FFS debutant), and Karl doing their stuff. Karl was launching his very first CD. Congratulations from all of us. Wishing everyone a very happy Christmas and all the best for 2020, and see you on the 20th January. Cheers, Neil

11.01.2022 2020 Folk by the Sea Cancellation in Current Format We are sad to announce that the current format for the 2020 Folk by the Sea festival planned for the 25-27 September is not possible with the current Covid-19 pandemic and restrictions in place. The Illawarra Folk Club Inc., who runs the festival, is considering an alternative one day event utilising artists that are local and from nearby regions in NSW. This means that we would not have to accommodate artists which would be... difficult under the current pandemic conditions. If the event happens in this modified format, artists will be invited to perform. There will not be a general performer application system. This is so we can put together an event at the latest possible time within the legal and practical limitations that will exist at that time. However the constraints will be the scale of financial risk to the Illawarra Folk Club Inc and what may be legal at the time. There is certainly a willingness to do something to support the Folk Music community. A clearer picture hopefully will develop over the coming months as to what form and size the alternative event may be. We will provide updates when appropriate. Take care. 08.01.2022 We have some bad news in regards to the Eleanor McEvoy concert at the Illawarra Folk Club. Due to the Blue Mountains Music Festival cancelling this morning and alerts to say that Abu Dahbi and Dubai airports are shutting down in the next few days, Eleanor has had to make the hard decision to cancel the rest of her tour and get home as soon as possible. She is devastated to do this as she has never cancelled a show ever before. We look forward to seeing Eleanor come back soon! https://www.facebook.com/events/989606671415155/

05.01.2022 Considering the uncertain times due to the COVID-19 global pandemic the Illawarra Folk Club, who run the Illawarra Folk Festival at Bulli Showground, have had n...o choice but to cancel the next festival which was scheduled for 14-17 January. We are hugely disappointed. By this stage, in 'normal' times, we would be well underway with site planning, programming, marketing and finalising artist bookings. In addition to this factor the actual risk of outlaying of hundreds of thousands of dollars and the potential health issues for our volunteers, artists, stallholders, suppliers and patrons is not prudent. And there have been no forthcoming lifelines to guarantor the event, despite asking. We are hoping things will be better next year to plan for our 36th festival to be held from 13-16 January 2022. All things being equal we'll be calling for artist's applications in March 2021. Take care. #keepfolkalive

Here's news from Figgy co...ordinator, Neil Rowsell: So far, there are 18 contributions posted to the Figgy Folk Sessions Face Book page! Go to the Figgy Folk Session page & scroll down through all the postings for the last 2 weeks; there is a great variety of songs, tunes & poems provided by Figgy Folk Session supporters for our entertainment. Thanks to all of those people who provided something. It is really a great substitute for getting together at Figgy Pub. The Figgy Folk Session Face Book page has 167 followers, & all those people get notifications whenever I post a video. It is a great opportunity to reach an audience. So, keep sending me contributions, & I will keep posting them. The simplest way is to take a video of your performance on your phone, & send it to me via Messenger (not Messaging due to video size limitations) or WhatsApp. If you need help with this, please contact me via Face Book.
