20.01.2022 It is with both sadness, and hope for a healthy and vibrant future for all, that we are cancelling or postponing all public events at Illawarra Performing Arts ...Centre, Wollongong Town Hall and The Music Lounge effective immediately until midnight 16 June 2020*. This decision comes as part of NSW Government measures to reduce the spread of the COVID-19 virus in our community, and after extensive consultation with management, staff, industry representatives and artists. Our administration, phone and online services remain open, however we will continue to monitor the situation and act promptly on advice from Commonwealth and NSW Health officials. We continue to take important precautions to protect the health of our staff and performers/artists in the venue, including increased cleaning and disinfection, the provision of hand sanitiser and social distancing measures. There will be a separate announcement about the Spiegeltent Wollongong season on 19 March 2020. DO I GET A REFUND? All ticket holders are, of course, entitled to a refund or exchange for events that are cancelled or rescheduled, as per the Live Performance Australia Ticketing Code of Practice. You will be contacted by email or phone within 21 days regarding your preferred refund option. Our box office is currently managing an unprecedented number of enquiries and we greatly appreciate your patience at this time. HOW CAN I HELP? COVID-19 is having an unprecedented impact upon the theatre and live performance industry, with enormous cultural and economic impacts that will last indefinitely. You may want to consider converting your ticket refund into a tax deductible donation (which can be done over the phone with box office staff). Or you can donate anytime here: https://merrigong.com.au/about-us/support-us/ Independent artists and arts workers are particularly hard hit in terms of immediate loss of income. The I Lost My Gig Australia website gives a sense of the scale and cost of the total impact to freelance artists and cultural workers. The Social @ IPAC café remains open for now. We have spread out seating to allow for social distancing measures and on top of our already extensive cleaning practices we have increased disinfection of all surfaces. The Social is not-for-profit; every dollar spent helps support a range of programs and activities for artists and our community. WHAT NEXT? We’re down but not out. We will be working tirelessly behind the scenes to support artists and community groups, and hope to welcome many wonderful events, and healthy and enthusiastic audiences, in the second half of the year.
