19.01.2022 In the 2020 Inner West street count, we recorded 25 people sleeping rough in the area. Rough sleeping is the most visible form of homelessness, involving people sleeping with little or no shelter at all. Every night people resort to sleeping in carparks, shopfronts, parks, trains, tents or in vehicles. These people are some of the most vulnerable in our community, and we're committed to reducing the number of people in this situation by helping to connect them with homelessne...ss services. Transport for NSW will compensate Inner West Council and the local community $2.875 million for the compulsory acquisition of 2,285sqm of land at King George Park. As well, Council has successfully negotiated that 72% of the acquired land will be returned to Council by December 2025.

As Mayor of the former Leichhardt Council I was very proud of Councils ground-breaking food waste service for apartments. We are now expanding the service into the old Marrickville Council area, and plan to make further extensions into the Ashfield area in 2021.... 02.01.2022 What does Disability Pride mean to you? We're looking forward to the inaugural Inner West Disability Pride Fest this weekend, organised by local Inner Westies with disability. Some of the organisers created their own statements of what Disability Pride means to them ... Image descriptions: All three photos feature a page with the words "Disability pride means to me" at the top. The first page features a tactile expression. It uses raised sticky dots to spell out the word "freedom" and below are hole-punched leaping dolphins who are "free". The second page has a collage of magazine pictures. There is a smiling mouth, but also pills representing chronic illness, and a smoothie bowl representing diversity. Underneath are the words "you deserve to be celebrated". The final page is a poem. It contrasts the feelings of going out in an ableist world, with the peace of a world where everyone recognises they are dependent on things and people.

01.01.2022 We've recovered nearly 250 tonnes of food waste since launching the food recycling service in the South area last September! That means residents have avoided 475,000kg of CO2 emissions being created. In other words, the equivalent to powering the average Australian household for 116 years or taking 141 cars off Sydney roads for a year.... Well done everyone in apartments who've been using it!

Sydney based (non-Indigenous) basketmaker and fibre artist, Nicole Robins, uses traditional techniques from basketry and embraces a range of domestic, native and non-native plants, mostly grown or found in her local area. Her materials-based practice is centred around her urban contemporary plant world.
