24.01.2022 Today is WORLD AUTISM AWARENESS DAY, and Australia has come a long way in 20 years to increase awareness of autism in the community. What about the next 20 years? Will INCLUSION for all people with AUTISM be the next step? All families want their children to have a GOOD LIFE; to have friends, to have meaningful work, to make decisions about their own life, and to participate in their community. We believe, it will take MANY PEOPLE working together. Working out, when it is fair for people with autism to be treated the same and when it is fair for them to be treated differently, in order to achieve authentic INCLUSION in the community.
19.01.2022 We are very concerned about the 'Independent Assessments' being implemented by the NDIS. Congrats to disability organisations for raising the very legitimate concerns about these assessments. There are issues with equity, but there are other ways to solve these problems without subjecting people with a disability and their families to jumping through yet more hoops! https://theconversation.com/dehumanising-and-a-nightmare-wh
18.01.2022 Interact Health Group team wishes all our clients a HAPPY & SAFE HOLIDAY period, beginning with the Easter holidays, and then school holidays for both NSW & VIC. The weather will be superb this year, so all the best whether you are camping or catching up with family or just getting away PS. Renovation of our office is continuing and we are excited about new blinds in the therapy rooms
18.01.2022 Interact Health Team committed to challenging the EVERYDAY BIAS affecting women and mothers for 2021 International Women's Day. The gender pay gap needs to CLOSE and CLOSE RAPIDLY - it is fundamentally unfair for women to be paid less for the same work. However when women earn more than 50% of household income, domestic violence experienced by these women is much more likely to occur. I find this really DISTURBING, and points to a need for Australian society to re-define society norms and re-define what masculinity means. WOMEN DESERVE: fair pay for the same work, to reach their potential, progression in their work/career, and respect and safety in all relationships. https://theconversation.com/a-shocking-statistical-fact-tha

01.01.2022 Interact staff will be undergoing INDIGENOUS CULTURAL AWARENESS training on Friday 16 April and our office will be CLOSED for the day. Our admin staff will respond to phone messages and emails on Monday 19 April. If you are like me, I received very little information about indigenous history and practices at school. I am looking forward to learning more about local indigenous history, however confronting it is. TRUTH TELLING is important. As a team, we look forward to learning how to engage more successfully with indigenous people and families in the local area.
