24.01.2022 Research does not support the publics positive perception of coconut oil. This most recent study, published in Circulation, found that compared with other vegetable oils, coconut oil increases low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C)the bad kind that ups cardiovascular disease riskwhile offering no improvements to weight, blood glucose, or inflammation markers. Do you know what oil you should be including on your IWL plan? Head over to the Interval Weight Loss YouTube channel for our educational video on which oil is best. https://jamanetwork.com/journ/jama/article-abstract/2764429 #IWL #IntervalWeightLossForLife #IntervalWeightLoss

19.01.2022 New research to further support the foods recommended on the IWL plan. This large study including 200,000 people found that higher consumption of total whole grains and several commonly eaten wholegrain foods, such as oats, brown rice and bran was significantly associated with a lower risk of type 2 diabetes. People in the highest category for total wholegrain consumption had a 29% (95% confidence interval 26% to 33%) lower rate of type 2 diabetes compared with those in the lowest category. https://www.bmj.com/content/370/bmj.m2206 #IWL #IntervalWeightLoss #IntervalWeightLossForLife

16.01.2022 Enjoy your favourite 'treat' foods in moderation because all things are poison, and nothing is without poison" - it's the dosage that matters. An interesting but also sad read for your Sunday. #IWL #IntervalWeightLoss #IntervalWeightLossForLife https://theconversation.com/the-spooky-and-dangerous-side-o

16.01.2022 Big to small meals is an important principle on the IWL plan and new research again supports this. In this latest study, identical calorie consumption led to a 2.5-times higher diet-induced thermogenesis (amount of energy burnt from the meal) increase in the morning than in the evening. In summary, breakfast should be preferred over large dinner meals to help with weight management and blood sugar control. https://academic.oup.com//article-abstr/105/3/e211/5740411 #IWL #IntervalWeightLossForLife #IntervalWeightLoss

09.01.2022 For those who are regular soft-drink consumers, rather than cutting them out altogether it is fine to wean yourself to artificially sweetened beverages with the goal to eventually move towards unsweetened beverages. New research published in the Journal of the American Heart Association supports this, as replacing sugar-sweetened beverages with either artificially sweetened or unsweetened beverages lowered body weight and fat mass. However, there is a decrease in the preference for sweet foods with unsweetened versus artificially sweetened beverages. https://www.ahajournals.org/doi/10.1161/JAHA.119.015668 #IWL #IntervalWeightLossForLife #IntervalWeightLoss

01.01.2022 Controlled studies support the inclusion of eggs in the diet, including those at risk of type 2 diabetes and heart disease. In this most recent study, two sources of choline (whole eggs and choline supplement) were evaluated for their effects on markers of cardiovascular disease in individuals with metabolic syndrome. Twenty-three study participants were split into two groups. One group consumed a 400mg choline supplement daily and the other, three eggs per day. Changes in ch...olesterol, blood glucose, and insulin levels, as well as markers of inflammation, were measured in both groups over a four week period. Researchers found no changes in cholesterol levels following the four weeks of daily egg intake or choline supplement. Additionally, c-reactive protein (a marker of inflammation), insulin levels and insulin resistance were also reduced after the egg period compared to levels at the start of the study. Overall, three eggs per day for four weeks did not increase biomarkers of cardiovascular disease in individuals with metabolic syndrome. https://hubs.li/H0B9T4v0 #IWL #IntervalWeightLoss #IntervalWeightLossForLife
