20.01.2022 Telstra is facing fines of up to $50 million after admitting it took advantage of vulnerable Indigenous customers by signing them up to mobile phone contracts they didn’t understand and couldn’t afford. The penalty, agreed to by the telecommunications giant and the competition and consumer watchdog, could be the second-biggest imposed under Australian consumer law. Sales staff at five stores across the country signed up 108 Indigenous people to post-paid mobile contracts betw...een January 2016 and August 2018. Many spoke English as a second or third language and had difficulties understanding contracts. Many of the customers were also unemployed or relied on government benefits or pensions as their primary source of income. https://inqld.com.au//not-happy-jan-telco-firms-lashed-ov/

10.01.2022 This is an interesting and in-depth article in Forbes around people with disability and their I don’t have to be cured to be happy. I don’t have to conform to the physical notion of perfection (whatever that is) to be a whole person. Disabled commenter at eparent.com. Many disabled people support disability prevention efforts. But once they become disabled, the idea of having that condition reversed is one fraught with implications for one’s way of life, one’s identity,... and one’s community. DisabilityWisdom.com. Without my lived experiences as a disabled person, I would be a completely different Emily. And as tough as certain aspects of my life have been, and though I know I will continue to face disability-related challenges throughout my life, I wouldn’t trade my life for a minute. Disability activist and blogger Emily Ladau. If you’ve spend much time at all exploring disability culture and activism, you will have heard something like this. But can it possibly be true? Do people with disabilities really prefer being disabled? Would we really refuse a cure or effective treatment if it was offered? Or, are these defiant declarations more of a coping mechanism, a way of emphasizing the positive and avoiding the corrosive effects of too much hope for something that will probably never happen? 03.01.2022 Lets take a closer look at why the humble potato should be included as part of a healthy diet ... A potato’s skin is rich in key nutrients such as potassium and Vitamin C. Coloured potatoes (purple, red, yellow) contain many essential antioxidants such as phenolic acids, anthocyanins and carotenoids which can suppress the damage caused to cells and blood vessels by oxidative stress via suppression of proinflammatory molecules like C-Reactive Protein and IL-6. ... Cold storage of cooked potatoes promotes the conversion of resistant starch (RS) which is important for gut health and lowers the Glycaemic Index (GI), preventing harmful spikes in postprandial blood glucose levels. So what can you do to make your potato dish healthier? - Leave the skin on your potato - Eat coloured potatoes such as red, purple and yellow Some cooking methods can alter the nutrition value of potatoes, so be aware that steaming or microwaving your potatoes retains its nutrients better, due to the lower cooking temp and shorter cooking time - - Store and eat your cooked potatoes cold ... think about yummy healthy potato salad! And remember to consult an Accredited Practising Dietitian for all your nutrition questions. IWC's APDs are here for all in our communities. BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE! Right now, you can be in the running to win a great Air Fryer with our Diet & Nutrition Quiz.
