25.01.2022 If you can come to a state where you can register improvement every time you do an action, there is no end to what you can achieve. -Moshe Feldenkrais https://www.movementandcreativity.com//20/why-do-feldenkra

25.01.2022 This weeks lesson is now available. Last one for the term next week...

24.01.2022 The quote below is taken from the linked article, that discusses one of the latest scientific theories about how we pay attention. "The brain doesnt passively... sample information from the environment and then respond to the observed external stimuli. The reverse also happens, with body movements as small as the flicker of an eye also guiding perception. The sensory and motor systems dont operate independently, and they evolved together, Fiebelkorn says. And so motor regions dont only help to shape the output (an animals behavior); they also help to shape the input." To us it sounds very similar to the below quote from Moshe Feldenkraiss book The Master Moves, first published in 1984. "Action is something that does not exist by itself there is no action without feeling, without sensing, without thinking, therefore improved actions will improve our life." Its often surprising how closely his ideas correspond with modern developments in Neuroscience.

07.01.2022 A lesson to explore during the break...

07.01.2022 The work our eyes do today, given that most of us either work on computers or stare at our phones for most of the day, is very different to what was asked of ou...r eyes four decades ago. In the past, working just with pen and paper meant that images remained still or changed slowly in front of your eyes. Now that everything is typed at speed onto a screen, multiple tiny images can be changing constantly in front of your eyes. This asks a lot more of the small muscles that move to help adjust your focus, rather like the mechanism of a camera being asked to constantly zoom in and out. Is there a way of spending less time in front of your screen? Perhaps you can look up from your work more frequently and focus on something in the far distance? The article below contains some great tips for maintaining eye health, including with regard to screen time. The best way to give your eyes a break is to look into the distance. So if you are setting up your computer, for example, dont set it up in the corner of a room, set it up by a window if you can instead, so you can look into the distance every 10 or 15 minutes. The Feldenkrais Guild UK newsletter comes out every two months. The theme for the next newsletter is Feldenkrais and desk-based/computer work - so if this is a subject that interests you, sign up to the newsletter here: http://bit.ly/FGUK_newsletter

07.01.2022 Learning is most potent when you have some space to "work it out for yourself". In Awareness Through Movement lessons, you are allowed that space, and simulta...neously supported by the guidance of a practitioner. The right balance of self-sufficiency and support creates a safe learning environment. In the upcoming Australian Feldenkrais Online Summit 2020, neurological rehabilitation specialists Susan Hillier and Jane Searle will discuss this approach to learning, and how it has transformed the lives of people with brain injuries and neurological conditions. Registration is FREE for the Summit, 1-8 September: https://www.feldenkrais.org.au/online-summit-2020 #neuroplasticity #neurologicalrehabilitation #FeldenkraisMethod #stroke #strokesurvivor #learning #awarenessthroughmovement #AFGSummit2020
