20.01.2022 Dear Joseph Banks Secondary College Community, Our world is rapidly changing and we find our daily routines being impacted more and more by the Governments', bo...th Federal and State, responses to COVID-19. I thought I'd take this opportunity to personally, and on behalf of the College Board, let you know that the College under direction of our Principal, is doing everything it can to minimise disruption to our community. In terms of operational issues, the College is well stocked with hand soap, paper towels and toilet paper. The College employs a cleaner, and has done so for many years, who cleans each toilet block at least 3 times during the day. Classroom surfaces are being disinfected at least twice a day and each space is sprayed with a disinfectant spray at the beginning and end of the day. Our cleaning staff are working additional hours to wipe all surfaces, including doors and windows several times a day. To date, no-one in our community has tested positive to COVID-19. If someone was to test positive, the school would be notified and the principal would communicate immediately with all families that the College would be closed for a short period of time. During this time, the College would be thoroughly cleaned under the direction and guidance of the Health Department. The only other way the College would close is under direction from the Government. To date, our Prime Minister has indicated that schools will not close. He has said, though, that parents may choose to keep their children home. In this instance, the College is following direction from the Department of Education in relation to curriculum continuity. We are fortunate that Joseph Banks Secondary College uses SEQTA as this allows students to continue with their learning at home. Currently, there is no requirement for schools to provide additional work packages to students learning at home. I'd like to take this opportunity to send a big thank you to College staff, especially our cleaning staff. Everyone is working in very stressful, uncertain times, and all are doing their absolute best to ensure that our students are well catered and cared for. While things remain uncertain, I hope you and your family stays well and safe. Michael Richards College Board Chair, Joseph Banks Secondary College

17.01.2022 Please take the time to read through and discuss the emails that the school sends out. There is SEQTA support for students staying at home. I am encouraging my children to connect with their school friends via video (in our lounge) so that they can stay connected and keep helping each other with studies. I would encourage you to do the same but would also caution that increased social media also increases the risks -please be vigilant. (They still need their social fix - ...just keep them safe!) Please understand that children need to stay home if they are not coming to school. If they are not coming to school, then they are also NOT going out the house during school hours. Children pose a significant risk to the general public because they can pick up the virus without showing symptoms. Finally, I know that this is stressful for you too. Please reach out to our neighborhood community groups online if you need help or support. It's OK to not be OK... just let someone know!

09.01.2022 There will NOT be a Friends of Music meeting tonight so that everyone can be at the P&C AGM. Please attend the AGM! Don’t forget to bring a gold coin to join the P&C for 2020.

07.01.2022 On Monday night, at the P&C AGM, we heard from Mrs Hughes about the challenges the school is having with the air conditioning and school uniforms. As always, it was clear that the school has worked hard to achieve the best result for the students and families, given the situation we find ourselves in. Please continue to let the school know about any problems you encounter in this regard. Regarding the uniform issues: The company has made a commitment to either refund or exchange wrong sizes, so please go back to them if you have any problems. - Jane Tempest (JBSC P&C President)

06.01.2022 COVID 19: The school is following the advice and requirements set out by the Education Department and there is much work being done in the background to anticipate possible changes. As P&C President, I would like to encourage you to consider how you will manage child care in the possible event of the school being closed. Please check your internet access is good as the likely process for handling continued learning will be technology based. (web-ex, streaming, remote classroom type apps). Please continue to follow the advice issued by the school.

06.01.2022 WACSSO understands schools have been advised to cancel all non-essential meetings and gatherings on school grounds amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. This is likely ...to cause some uncertainty for P&Cs when organising meetings and fulfilling their Constitutional requirements. Here are a few tips to meet these requirements: Hold meetings or teleconferences using real-time communication programs, such as Skype, Google Duo, GoToMeeting, etc. It is a requirement that users are identifiable while using these programs. P&Cs can hold meetings outside of school grounds, however this is subject to change with the COVID-19 situation, so P&Cs should keep up to date with advice from the Department of Health and Department of Education. Possible communication issues may arise for P&Cs while conducting meetings under different circumstances, so it is important for P&Cs to prioritise essential business at these meetings. WACSSO are currently working on a resource to help guide P&C operations amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, which will be made available shortly.

05.01.2022 "P&C Associations are an officially recognised forum where anyone over the age of 18 who is interested in the welfare of government schools can meet to discuss educational issues. The objects of an association are to promote the interests of the school or group of schools for which it is formed through -... (a)cooperation between parents, teachers, students and members of the general community; (b)assisting in the provision of resources, facilities and amenities for the school or schools; and (c)the fostering of community interest in educational matters. 01.01.2022 Please note the following advice on the Education Department website: School closures If there was to be a confirmed COVID-19 case at a school, the decision to close a school is based on the expert advice from the WA Health Department’s Chief Health Officer.... The Chief Health Officer will, if there has been a positive COVID-19 test result in a school, close the school temporarily while assessment and tracing of exposure is conducted. A thorough school clean will then be carried out to make the school safe for the return of students and staff. In this situation, all families will be immediately contacted by the school and provided with the relevant information. Link: https://www.education.wa.edu.au/coronavirus-school-update
