Issued at 2:11 pm Monday, 2 November 2020.... Severe thunderstorms possible in the southeastern Goldfields, western Eucla and the South East Coastal District. Weather Situation: A complex low pressure system passing over the South West Land Division is causing an area of thunderstorms in central parts of the state. This area should gradually move south eastwards and clear the state overnight Monday. Some of these thunderstorms may be severe and could cause DAMAGING WINDS, LARGE HAILSTONES and HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING in the warning area during Monday. The thunderstorms are expected to move to the south southeast during the day. Locations which may be affected include Esperance, Balladonia, Israelite Bay and Zanthus. Esperance recorded 28.6mm in the hour between 11am and midday. Mount Burdett recorded 23.0mm in the hour between midday and 1pm. The overall weather pattern is not unusual for this time of year but severe weather may occur in some parts of the warning area. The Department of Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should: * If outside find safe shelter away from trees, power lines, storm water drains and streams. * Close your curtains and blinds, and stay inside away from windows. * Unplug electrical appliances and do not use land line telephones if there is lightning. * If there is flooding, create your own sandbags by using pillow cases filled with sand and place them around doorways to protect your home. * If boating, swimming or surfing leave the water. * Do not drive into water of unknown depth and current. * Slow down and turn your headlights on. * Be alert and watch for hazards on the road such as fallen power lines and loose debris. * If it is raining heavily and you cannot see, pull over and park with your hazard lights on until the rain clears.

15.01.2022 There’s a new kid on the Emergency WA block! DFES and the Department of Health (HealthyWA) have partnered to customise the Emergency WA website (www.emergency.w...a.gov.au) to include map-based ‘human pandemic’ warnings if they’re needed. The website is now equipped to show localised outbreaks of COVID-19 and provide targeted information to communities impacted. While we hopefully don’t have to use it, this enhancement is part of the WA Government preparation for potential outbreaks of COVID-19 in WA. To help keep the community safe, remember to: Practise good hygiene and wash your hands regularly. Maintain a physical distance from others where possible. Stay home if you’re sick. If you’re experiencing symptoms, get tested immediately. Stay home and self-isolate if you are waiting for your test results.
