25.01.2022 While we head into fire season, don't forget working smoke alarms are necessary for all Victorian households, all year round. We heard from Greg, a member from ...Selby Fire Brigade (CFA) who is hearing impaired and has a special system installed to ensure they can make a safe escape if a fire occurs in their home. See more

24.01.2022 Just a reminder, burning off is not allowed in bushland residential areas during June and July. Burning off is not allowed in urban areas year-round. People... in rural areas will need to check conditions and requirements on the Council website, then register with ESTA before they burn off (on 1800 668 511) If you've got excess green waste to get rid of, you can organise a green waste bin or take your green waste to your nearest waste transfer station (for a fee). For more information, visit yarraranges.vic.gov.au/burningoff

We are tens of thousands of Victorians, committed to protecting lives and property. We are skilled, determined and here to serve Victorians now and into the future. We are from the community and for the community. We are CFA. #OurCommunityOurCFA #WeAreCFA

24.01.2022 7 February 2009 46.4C maximum temperature 173 lives lost 400+ fires 414 injured... 2,029 homes destroyed 7,567 people displaced 78 communities directly impacted 358 career firefighting personnel deployed 19,000+ CFA/FFMV members involved 450,000+ hectares burnt It was Black Saturday. Today we remember those that lost their lives, their homes, their properties, their loved ones, and their animals, and gratefully thank all those who worked tirelessly to bring an end to the devastation on that day, and in the immensely difficult days that followed. The people, communities and landscapes of Victoria were forever changed that day. We stand with those who with great hope and courage are still grieving and recovering, and acknowledge those who continue to work with affected individuals and communities. Together, we remember.

24.01.2022 Preparing for the fire season is certainly very different this year. Our brigade has been keeping in touch via regular zoom meetings and training online. Keeping up essential maintenance and turn out ready requirements. Ready to help our community when in need at any time. Keep safe.

24.01.2022 Unfortunately their website is down - however the below was posted on their Facebook page. "Weve become aware of a potential water quality issue affecting 88 suburbs due to electrical damage caused by storms overnight. Some water may have entered our drinking water supply network that had not been treated to the usual standard. As a precautionary measure, were advising residents in those suburbs to boil their water before they drink residents should bring water to a rolling boil before drinking, washing and preparing food, preparing baby formula, brushing teeth and making ice until further notice. Please go to www.yvw.com.au/drinking-water-advice for more information about suburbs, advice and updates."

21.01.2022 Tonight we were called to the aid of a severely injured Cyclist. A team effort with Ambulance Victoria, Monbulk Fire & Rescue (CFA), Olinda Rural Fire Brigade, Lilydale SES and Victoria Police to extricate the patient 1km up the side of Mt Dandenong to waiting road and air ambulance.

21.01.2022 Amendment to the Fire Danger Period

21.01.2022 We’re lucky to have an incredible bunch of women within our brigade; operational, non-operational and juniors.

21.01.2022 ANZAC Day 2020 will not look like the ANZAC Day that so many of us are used to participating in. There will be a Dawn Service, wreaths will be laid, the last po...st will be played, a minute of silence in memory of the fallen will be observed, but the service community and the public will be asked to stay at home. This does not mean that ANZAC Day is cancelled. It just means that ANZAC Day will be different. In 2020, on April 25, while you can't go to the Shrine of Remembrance or a local Dawn Service, the RSL is asking that instead you #STANDTO. As the Last Post is played during the ANZAC Day Dawn Service walk outside, stand in your yard, driveway, or on your balcony and observe a minute of silence in respect of our veterans. Make sure that you snap a quick picture and share it right here on our Facebook page using the hashtag #STANDTO. Together, let's amplify our commitment to the ANZAC spirit. Lest We Forget.

21.01.2022 Some important information here. Please check your property is as accessible as possible for us to best respond to in an emergency.

20.01.2022 Aerworx releasing the fireballs along the required burn path. @100 on this drop.

20.01.2022 Drone burn observations from yesterdays FFM planned burn in Mt Dandenong.

20.01.2022 Fire danger period has now ended in the Shire of Yarra Ranges. Please ensure you are aware of local laws before you burn off- heres a helpful council website that allows you to put your address in, and get information specific to your address. https://www.yarraranges.vic.gov.au/Environment/Burning-off... And of course, all burn-offs should be registered with ESTA on 1800 668 511 This prevents us getting called out unnecessarily to someone noticing smoke in your yard- but it also means that if the burn off does sneak away from you, we already have some information before we arrive, like what it is that is burning, to help us help you get it back under control

19.01.2022 COMMUNITY INFORMATION Please be advised that TODAY at 5:40pm a number of Brigades across the state, including Kalorama & Mt Dandenong, will be sounding their Brigade Station Sirens as a mark of respect to the four Victorian Police Officers who tragically lost their lives last week. There is no reason to be concerned or alarmed should you hear sirens sounding at 5:40pm.

19.01.2022 A planned burn arranged by FFM with CFA Kalorama support is under way in Mt Dandenong and is expected to continue for the next couple of days.

19.01.2022 Dont let your campfire become a bushfire! Please make sure you don't leave any rubbish behind when you visit our great parks and forests. We all need to do our ...bit when it comes to looking after the environment. Removing the rubbish we generate whilst enjoying the outdoors will ensure the area is left clean and tidy for the enjoyment of others. Make camping easy with these handy tips. Replace glass stubby's with aluminium cans that are easily crushed and stored to carry out. Use re-usable plates and cutlery instead of plastic or paper. Take a roll of plastic garbage bags with you to place your rubbish in. These are also handy for dirty recovery gear etc. Don't put glass or cans etc in your campfire as they do not burn. And finally have fun but make sure you extinguish your campfire with water before leaving your campsite. See more

19.01.2022 We were fortunate to work along side the drone team Aerworx yesterday on an FFM planned burn in Mt Dandenong. Drones were used for a combination of both burn observation and fireball dropping into areas where access is difficult and the forest heavy with fuel. After much planning and preparations and waiting until temperature and wind conditions were just right, some few hundred balls were ignited in the afternoon along a designated burn path, each ball with fire temperature potential of @700c.

18.01.2022 Kalorama, Mount Dandenong and outer Eastern Suburb residents will see or smell smoke from the ignition of the Old Coach Road, Kalorama (near Mount Dandenong) pl...anned burn tomorrow (Monday 16 March 2020) and Tuesday. The burn is around 12 hectares and is focussed on reducing the spread and intensity of bushfires near Mount Dandenong and surrounding areas. Old Coach, Jasper and Thompsons Roads will be closed to non-local traffic and there may be brief delays when leaving or entering the area We are taking every opportunity to burn while conditions allow and it is safe to do so. To find out when and where planned burns are happening near you go to www.vic.gov.au/plannedburns or call 1800 226 226.

17.01.2022 Some of our members getting out and about assessing our local area & firetracks. Local knowledge & familiarisation is critical for staying safe & our ability to effectively respond.

16.01.2022 Great outcomes from the jaws of tragedy. An excellent result from the actions of Strike Team 1304, in which 3 of our members were participating at the time.

16.01.2022 Aerworx launching the fireball drop drone in yesterdays FFM planned burn Mt Dandenong.

16.01.2022 If conditions are suitable and it’s safe to do so, or crews will ignite the following planned burns over the coming days: Silvan Melba Track: 38-hectares o...f fuel reduction burning to protect the nearby Reservoir and surrounding communities including Silvan and Kalorama. Walking and mountain bike tracks in and around the burn area will be closed. Belgrave South Ballarat Track, Lysterfield Park (near Birdsland Reserve): 12-hectares of fuel reduction burning to protect the nearby communities. Ryans Road will be partially closed for the duration of the burn. We work closely with the Bureau of Meteorology to assess humidity, temperature and wind speed. Planned burns can only go ahead when the weather conditions are suitable, so plans can change quickly. Under the current public health advice, planned burning is continuing across Victoria. During the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, we continue to work closely with the Department of Health and Environment Protection Authority to ensure we keep the smoke impacts from planned burning as low as practically possible. Our crews are adhering to appropriate physical distancing and hygiene requirements to ensure we can safely continue our operations across the state. To find out when and where planned burns are happening near you go to www.vic.gov.au/plannedburns or call 1800 226 226. : Deb Sparkes, 2020

15.01.2022 Have you taught your kids how to stop, drop and roll? Shennel Martin suffered severe burns as a child when she lit a candle and her clothes caught alight. Shennel now tells her story in hope she can educate others on the importance of being safe around fire. #StopDropRoll

15.01.2022 In a changing of the guard, we say a very large thank you to Captain Michael Motteram for his service at the top of our ranks for the last 7 years. He has provided a steady hand at the helm and kept a positive outlook throughout his captaincy that included the Black Summer and dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic. His leadership has seen the brigade continue in it's modern outlook with the acquisition of the new Iveco heavy tanker and both of our smaller service vehicles upgraded during his tenure. While Michael is relinquishing his role as captain, we look forward to his continued support and contributions as a Senior firefighter with the Kalorama/Mt Dandenong Fire Brigade.

15.01.2022 Congratulations to former NSW Rural Fire Service Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons AFSM who has just been announced as the NSW Australian of the Year. NSW will forever be deeply grateful for your leadership during such a difficult time. #AusoftheYear

15.01.2022 Celebrating 75 years of the CFA. The images and music in this video get to me every time I play it

15.01.2022 Our brigade assisted with an out of control burn this afternoon in Montrose. Also in attendance Montrose Fire Brigade, Mt Evelyn Fire Brigade, Bayswater Fire Brigade, Yellingbo Rural Fire Brigade, The Basin Fire Brigade and Boronia Fire Brigade.

14.01.2022 Did you know you can't smell smoke when you're asleep? All smoke alarms in your home should be interconnected - this means that no matter where a fire starts - all alarms will sound.

13.01.2022 **FIRE SAFE KIDS** We've had a look at what us firefighters wear to protect ourselves, but what can YOU wear? If there's a fire near you, you need to hide as mu...ch skin as you can. Colour in the clothes and cut them out to put on the paper doll. Can you find some of your own clothes that will help protect you if you need to. Get a grown up to help you. Help them find protective clothes for themselves. Show us some photos!

06.01.2022 There is a high pressure weather system centred below Tasmania that is drawing smoke across our district from the Gippsland fires to our east. There is no concern locally at the moment. You can keep up to date with the VicEmergency app. If you see smoke issuing directly from it's source, please call 000.

03.01.2022 Insurance companies are failing Australians with confusing fire cover. Right now, there is no standard definition of fire across insurance policies. This mean...s insurance companies are free to define fire however they like and you may be paying for cover that has loopholes when it comes to natural disasters. 01.01.2022 Congratulations to Kalorama's member Shayne O'Dwyer for being nominated by Captain Michael Motteram for an award for outstanding Brigade services, presented by Colin Brown.

01.01.2022 They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun ... and in the morning We will remember them. Lest we forget

01.01.2022 Over the last few weeks, weve received enquiries from concerned community members about how the brigade is responding to restrictions imposed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As an essential service, the brigade will continue to respond to emergencies. We have however changed some of our work practices to ensure safe social distancing at incidents. This includes sending a small vehicle first to assess the incident so we can determine what resources are needed at the scene. We w...ill be wearing masks and gloves and will maintain a safe distance of at least 1.5 metres from members of the public, unless being closer is necessary to keep someone safe from harm. After each incident, vehicles and equipment are thoroughly cleaned and disinfected. We are also keeping our brigade members safe so that we dont compromise our operational capacity. Were doing this by having our regular meetings online. We are also wearing masks and gloves while travelling in brigade vehicles and attending incidents. Brigade vehicles are checked, and maintenance work carried out weekly by a maximum of two people. We are still here to serve the community. Dont hesitate to call if you need us.
