Track prep 5:50-6pm x 2 ... this includes - Watering the track, turning the lights on, making sure toilets are well stocked with paper and soap. Rego’s/Timing 5:50-8:30pm (approx) x 1 helper This helper takes the money for whoever is on the Computer. First Aid - 6:30 - end of racing Mini Wheeler helpers 6:30-6:45 & Again during their racing. Flaggie 7:00 - end of racing x 2 This role is really important it helps tell the gate starter we are ready for the next race and also other riders if there is a rider down. Staging 7:00 - end of racing x 2 Need to be able to shout the kids names and ensure they are all going in correct race. It was wonderful t...o see the response from the club when I made this announcement! We made the front page of the paper too, with the pic and rest of the story further in. Full report from the Kalgoorlie Miner here https://www.kalminer.com.au//eastern-goldfields-bmx-club-c The Eastern Goldfields BMX Club is toasting an election pledge that will give it the best track in Western Australia if WA Labor wins next year’s State election. The $70,000 funding commitment announced by Labor candidate for Kalgoorlie Ali Kent at the club’s annual wind-up on Saturday would see the damaged track resurfaced. Club president Eddie Boeg, who was re-elected to serve at the helm for another year on Saturday, told the Kalgoorlie Miner a new track would slash maintenance costs and entice more riders to the Marshall Street facility. What it’s saving us is heaps of water, maintenance, hours of labour for the committee it’s just incredible the changes it will make for us, he said. The age group we’re missing out on is the teenagers, they get to teenagers and then want to go and play something else so I think you’ll find they’ll come back just to race on the surface. It’ll be the best track in Western Australia. Club volunteers spent six months preparing the track for the State Championships in 2018 when more than 200 tonnes of oxidised granite from a nearby mine site was laid down to ensure it was in tip-top shape for the event. But the sealed parts of the track have developed large cracks and the election promise would see the club resurface the track with a weatherproof polymer aggregate known as SicSurface. Mr Boeg said it was his understanding it would be the only track in WA of its kind and would improve safety while also being super-fast. Ms Kent said the existing track was in a poor state with its age and the weather taking a heavy toll on the facility. If there is any rain the club committee must spend hours drying off the track before it can be raced on, she said. This is hugely time consuming and cannot always be planned with Kalgoorlie-Boulder’s unexpected weather event. This important project will provide a huge opportunity not only for the local families that participate in BMX, but also the wider city as State Championships will be able to be hosted here.
