17.01.2022 We know it can be hard as a parent to prepare your child to get tested for COVID-19 You can help your child feel calm by explaining to them what’s going t...o happen and why (‘you’re a superhero saving lives’). Let them know that the staff will be wearing masks, caps, gowns and gloves to protect themselves and others. Let them know that they’ll put a little stick with a soft end in their nose and mouth, and that it won’t hurt but might feel funny. It might help to take some deep breaths together before you go in and to schedule a fun ‘reward’ after the test at home (your child will need to isolate until they’ve received a negative test result and their symptoms have resolved). If your child doesn’t like being touched or gets scared in clinical settings, let the staff know and they’ll work out a way to keep your child feel calm and comforted. More information is available at www.covid19.act.gov.au/testing

13.01.2022 When we observe a young child's behaviour, we don't always stop to consider the underlying factors. By acting as 'stress detectives' in children's lives, educat...ors and families can help identify and reduce stressors and teach children the skills they need to respond.
