16.01.2022 #NAIDOCWeek2020: Always Was, Always Will Be This week, 8 to 15 November, communities across #Australia will come together to celebrate NAIDOC week, which honours the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life. ... The NAIDOC Week theme for 2020 is ‘Always Was, Always Will Be,’ which recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. NAIDOC week is a great opportunity to participate in a range of activities and to support your local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community. Our Reconciliation Officer, Grant Lea believes NAIDOC Week is an important part of recognising the contribution of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. This is special to me as it recognises that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have been here for a long time and we have made significant contributions to this country, and we will continue to do so, Grant says. NAIDOC stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee. More information about the very interesting history of NAIDOC can be accessed on the NAIDOC website. This year we are proud to celebrate the rich and vibrant culture of the Bunurong people through a number of events, including: Frankston Youth Service - Aboriginal Art Online Workshop Tuesday 10 November, 46pm, via Zoom, limited spaces available, registration essential A creative afternoon facilitated by Nina Turner, a proud Aboriginal woman from Kokatha mob in South Australia. You will be provided with a small art kit to assist Frankston City Libraries - Indigenous Infusion Wednesday 11 November, 2pm, via Zoom, FREE Please join us to celebrate NAIDOC week with Noonuccal man, Elder and culture worker, Gene Blow. Gene has more than 20 years of experience teaching and sharing Indigenous culture and history with both adults and children alike. 07.01.2022 #FeelGoodFrankston We're asking everyone to share their own positive messages with the community. Positive affirmations can be extremely simple and a powerful way to combat negative thoughts, especially during current restrictions. What words do you say to yourself or draw on to help you 'bounce back' or get through a tough time?... Over the next four weeks Council staff will be sharing photos and affirmations to help get the ball rolling. Getting involved is easy: Take a photo of yourself with your positive affirmation or self-talk (or if you are camera shy, a creative photo). Share the photo with us by using the #FeelGoodFrankston. Share it on your own wall or share it as a comment on our post. Share with us and let's flip the switch together - help each other by sharing your own positive messages with the community. #FrankstonCity #Resilience #PositivePower #PositivelyPowerful
