21.01.2022 At Williams River, Morpeth and Karuah veterinary clinics we value our staff and clients health and well being above all else . We would like to request that clients who are experiencing a cough, runny nose , sore throat or fever - not to attend our clinics. If you do find yourself exhibiting these symptoms and have an animal needing veterinary care please contact the clinics to get advice on how best to proceed. The world health organisation (WHO) have recently advised th...at there is no evidence indicating companion animals can contract the COVID-19 virus . An early positive test of a dog in Hong Kong resulted in a negative second test, so whilst animal owners should always practice good hygiene there is no current cause for concern. We hope this virus is gone as quickly as it arrived and hope our clients remain healthy and happy during this developing situation.

17.01.2022 Following the advice of our veterinary surgeons board and the state and federal government we have again changed our practices to further reduce in clinic contact. We will continue to adapt as this pandemic changes , to ensure we can remain open for our clients for as long as possible. Our current changes include : Spacing out our appointment times to minimise the amount of people in our clinic reception area . ... Requesting that only one person accompanies an animal into our clinic . We are working towards offering teleconsultation and are hoping to have this option available this week. We will discuss it’s potential use when appointments are made. Offering to take your animal inside for you to complete the physical exam before returning your animal to the car and discusssing with you our findings . We have reduced the amount of surgeries we perform daily - to maintain available space for emergency procedures . Our cleaning schedules have again increased to ensure we are offering the safest environment we can. Offering postage of medications and products where available . We are requesting card payments where possible to reduce contact time and avoid cash exchange These are challenging times and the feeling of seriousness compounded last week when we did an inventory of equipment and supplies to make available to hospitals should they require them. During these stressful times our vets and nurses have continued to be amazing - all dedicated to providing the absolute best service we can for as long as we can. Thankyou to our clients for their support and respect. On a lighter note - let’s hope veterinary professionals aren’t called in to help in hospitals , I don’t think people will appreciate how we take temperatures

15.01.2022 In a bid to be more efficient and do our part in reducing waste we are taking our clinic one step closer to paperless. Clinic receipts and patient reminders will now be emailed to our clients where possible. We guarantee there will be no promotional material sent and the email addresses will be added straight into our client files which are governed under strict medical document laws. 15.01.2022 I’m sure everyone has noticed the increase in mosquito activity recently , unfortunately our bunnies are noticing it most of all . We have had 5 cases of Myxomatosis in pet rabbits just this week. This is a horrible and in most cases fatal disease for rabbits to acquire - and it is spread by mosquitos. There is no vaccine for myxomatosis, and no specific treatment, their best defence is protection from the mosquitos themselves. Please ensure rabbit hutches are enclosed with a fine mesh shade cloth and consider bringing rabbits inside once early afternoon sets in. The most notable symptoms include swelling of the ears and genitals , if your rabbit seems out of sorts and you notice it is exhibiting similar signs of swelling please contact the clinic.

09.01.2022 HENDRA VIRUS VACCINATION DRIVE On the back of horrific weather events in the Summer we anticipate the bat populations in our region will be under greater food stress this Winter. 08.01.2022 Over the last few weeks we have been called to assist livestock from being stuck in the mud. As dams dry out, they need to move deeper into the drying dams to seek water. When they are unable to get themselves out, exhaustion sets in and then this requires valuable resources to help them, namely fire and rescue services. To assist livestock (including horses) and our overstretched fire fighters, please provide alternative, safe water sources for them to drink from. Also fencing off dams and thick mud areas will help to keep them safe. These are trying times for us all including our livestock.
