20.01.2022 WHAT IS METABOLIC SYNDROME? The term metabolic refers to all the biochemical processes that occur in our cells that allow us to eat, breathe, exercise and do our daily activities. When you have metabolic syndrome, your body is in a state of serious malfunction. These malfunctions can put you at risk for many chronic health conditions.... Metabolic Syndrome or Syndrome X as it is often referred to, is a group of risk factors which include: High blood pressure (greater than 130/85) Abdominal fat and obesity Elevated triglyceride levels Low levels of HDL cholesterol High blood glucose levels and/or insulin resistance To be diagnosed with metabolic syndrome, you would have at least three of these risk factors. When some of these risk factors are combined you have an increased long-term risk of developing diabetes, blood vessel damage, heart disease, strokes, fatty liver disease and an overall increased mortality rate. 19.01.2022 I Love Green Herbs! The More You Eat, the Healthier You Get! Most herbs have great nutrient-rich profiles that vary with each individual herb. In fact, there are SO many health benefits to herbs and they are also one of the easiest ways to take a dish from basic to brilliant!
15.01.2022 Did you know that these conditions are different and may require different treatments? The thyroid gland is an incredibly important organ and influences things like your heart rate, digestion, mood, menstrual cycle, and energy levelsessentially various factors of your metabolism. Thyroid problems are very common. There are 2 specific conditions that are quite commonly under diagnosed, you may have one or the other or even both together. However, they do require different t...reatments. Hypothyroidism simply refers to a state of low thyroid function in the body. This state is almost always the result of decreased thyroid hormone production. When this happens, you can experience symptoms like fatigue, cold intolerance, constipation, muscle weakness, hair loss, brain fog and poor concentration, a slow metabolism with weight gain and other hormonal issues. Hashimotos is an auto-immune disease and may be associated with episodes of hyperthyroidism, normal thyroid function, and hypothyroidism. Hashimotos is when the immune system produces antibodies that attack the tissues of the thyroid gland. These antibodies cause inflammation and destruction to the thyroid gland creating a much more serious and chronic thyroid condition, than hypothyroidism. 14.01.2022 I think most of us need this to pop up regularly throughout our day!
14.01.2022 Let the mind wander to a peaceful and tranquil location to bring some immediate benefits like helping you to relax, something similar to what you'd experience after a session of meditation. I can do that!
14.01.2022 In particular people with insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes or metabolic syndrome, a low-carb eating plan can be particularly effective.
13.01.2022 It’s all about balance!
11.01.2022 This is a great reminder!....These days it’s pretty common to spend a good portion of the day in front of some type of screen. We are constantly flooded with updates/notifications via emails and social media. But, it does mean our minds are constantly engaged. So, unplug from the world, go read a book, walk, watch the sunset and generally relax. Your mind and body will thank you for it!
09.01.2022 Eating a good variety of foods high in healthy fats can help to promote good health. Ever since fat was demonised, sugar, refined carbs and processed foods have taken over. Fats help to soothe inflammation, promote blood flow to the brain, help to balance hormones, great for the cardiovascular system and help to improve overall health. Some fats are better for you than others, knowing the difference can help you determine which fats to avoid, and which to eat in moderation. Avoid refined vegetable oils, processed meats, store brought baked goods and other processed foods. These unhealthy fats can contribute to chronic disease. Stick to unprocessed and foods naturally high in fats like avocadoes, olive oil, coconut, fatty fish and nuts. Pretty easy!

04.01.2022 Not just fragrance but other chemicals in body and cleaning products when used year after year can have a huge impact on our skin, lungs, detox pathways and contributing to hormone disruption. Those chemicals include parabens, phthalates, synthetic colours, formaldehyde, fragrances, and propylene glycol to help them look and smell nice, in addition to preserving their shelf life. The good news is that there are many inexpensive, safe, natural, pleasant and effective alternat...ives to store bought chemical body care and cleaning products. Many of these alternatives may already be in your kitchen cabinets! Harmful sprays could be replaced with simple microfibre cloths and water. Natural cleaning products can be created from pure essential oils. Alternatively, there are numerous eco-friendly cleaning products that are naturally-derived, safe, nontoxic, and biodegradable ingredients that don't negatively impact the environment or your family’s health. The average woman uses about 12 beauty products, and within many of them lurk thousands of toxic chemicals. Makeup, shampoo, skin moisturises, nail polish, and other personal care products contain chemical ingredients that you really could do without. It’s no surprise that the organic skin care beauty market has exploded. We are spoilt for choice with natural beauty products free from harsh chemicals. Might be time to do an inventory of the toxic cleaning and body products in your home. Try swapping one product at a time for a more natural option. It really is that simple!....and your body and home will love you for it!
04.01.2022 There are many things in life that make you happy, and many things that may not. Focus on what makes you happy and your quality of life will improve dramatically!
03.01.2022 Magnesium is absolutely essential for good health! It is needed for more than 300 biochemical reactions in the body. It is required for energy production, it helps maintain normal nerve and muscle function, supports a healthy immune system, keeps the heartbeat steady, and helps bones remain strong. Magnesium deficiency is extremely common and may result in numerous symptoms, particularly affecting energy production and the nervous system. Some of the foods that contain a decent amount of magnesium include dark chocolate, avocadoes, nuts and seeds, legumes, whole grains and leafy greens. Although, I think most of us could benefit from taking a supplement daily because it can help enormously in so many great ways!
02.01.2022 Have you stopped to think about the quality of the food you are buying? How your food is grown can have a huge impact on your overall health, and the environment of course. Many fruits and vegetables are sprayed with pesticides and grown with synthetic fertilisers. As you can’t usually smell or taste these when you are cooking with them, you may be completely unaware of how much of these chemicals you are actually ingesting, every day. Organic produce on the other hand is g...rown without the use of pesticides and synthetic fertilisers, genetically modified organisms or ionizing radiation. If you can’t afford organic, check out your local farmers markets as there is usually a great range of fresh fruits and vegetables. They may not have the organic certification (because they can’t afford the huge price tag to have that), but often you will find they are grown without chemicals, and the bonus is they are usually freshly picked from the farm!

01.01.2022 Have you noticed your weight increasing year after year? Perhaps you have tried every diet strategy but yet the weight still creeps up and your metabolism remains sluggish. You may experience hunger and cravings and never really feel satisfied after a meal. Leptin is a hormone produced by fat cells that helps the body regulate energy by telling the brain it’s had enough to eat. It controls our hunger and feelings of satiety. Read the rest of the Leptin story here: https://www.katewilliamsnaturopath.com.au/leptin-leptin-re/
01.01.2022 I would settle for living here! Happy Friday!!
