24.01.2022 A great novelty item .. a talking point.. true We are going to make a few of these. Can be stained or made from exotic timbers.. differerent sizes too.... Makes great pot holders.. flowers or plants.... Imagine a custom made designed one for the tables in a Cafe or a Restaurant.. Something different to encourage conversation.. with table no. engraved on the side? Interested? Message us. Made in Aust. by the men of the Kiama Shed. Wow Amazing Impress your mates with this seemingly impossible item that will immediately draw their eyes. The table uses a physics principle known as the "tensegrity effect" to give the viewer the baffling impression that the top half is floating in mid-air. Well done Bob Can you explain why they work? 18.01.2022 In 1696, William III of England introduced a property tax that required those living in houses with more than six windows to pay a levy. In order to avoid the tax, house owners would brick up all windows except six. (The Window Tax lasted until 1851, and older houses with bricked-up windows are still a common sight in the U.K.) As the bricked-up windows prevented some rooms from receiving any sunlight, the tax was referred to as daylight robbery!

16.01.2022 Many years ago in England, pub frequenters had a whistle baked into the rim or handle of their ceramic cups. When they needed a refill, they used the whistle to get some service. 'Wet your whistle' is the phrase inspired by this practice

02.01.2022 Making Nesting Boxes for Birds at the Shed Birds & Microbats of Eurobodalla Will rejoice As many caring community members help with the restoration of the bush fire ravaged South Coast. Thank You Barry wrote.... 'The Rotary Club of Kiama, as part of their Bushfire Restoration Appeal (in association with the Kiama Leagues Club) identified a dire need for Bird Nesting Boxes at the Eurobodalla Region Botanic Gardens (ERBG, just south of Batemans Bay), after their magnific...ent bush gardens were ravaged by bushfire during the horrific New Year bushfires. We needed expertise and the Kiama Men's Shed eagerly stepped up to assist with nestbox planning/cutting of the 18mm marine ply sheets, for 5 Kookaburra, 5 Boobook Owl 10 MicroBat nesting boxes. Thanks Kiama Men's Shed and in particular, the expertise of Phil Tippett. Rotary Club of Kiama members have now assembled the boxes and are underway with external painting (to assist with longevity) before shortly delivering the boxes to the ERBG. This has been a great community collaboration, especially between the Kiama Men's Shed and the Kiama Rotary Club. Well done by all.' See more
