25.01.2022 Happy confident children, create happy confident parents. http://parentlineact.org.au/r/hot-tips-for-happy-parenting/

24.01.2022 ArtKids Canberra in Term 4 have created an artTots program for 3-5 year olds. You have a choice of the Turner location or the Ginninderry Location. If you are looking for an activity for your child to do during school hours, while you enjoy a cuppa in the next room and socialise with other parents, register with artKids. One thing I love about the program is that it has a 'pay it forward initiative', for those who can pay it forward, it allows those who can't pay an opportunity for a child to be gifted an experience of art culture.

17.01.2022 What I like about salt dough recipes is that you can extend the activity by baking and painting your creations. Get your salt dough ready for Thursday's virtual playgroup, have some baked in advance so we can paint them together online, or just use regular play dough. https://unsophisticook.com/salt-dough-recipe/

14.01.2022 Kippax Kids Playground is currently under construction to repair the damage that occurred from the January hail storm. Please do not enter the playground for the safety of yourself and your child/ren. We will update you as soon as the playground and playgroup has reopened on the UnitingCare Kippax grounds.... We are working on a temporary open air location for Term 4 with virtual playgroups as our backup, so stay tuned.

13.01.2022 When we start to think about up-skilling our professional development to prepare for returning to work, or applying for a promotion, the top two challenges are 1. where to start and 2. the cost that it takes towards self improvement. I was directed to the College of Transformation Education and Training (CTET) for my professional development in 2021 and thought it had a variety of professional development courses that might interest our community. Joanne is amazing to chat with, you can give her a call and she will answer any of your questions. https://ctet.com.au/act-courses

05.01.2022 Through The Eyes of Our Children is a fun 'go to' activity to engage your children/ren in the world around them and it keeps busy hands still and focused. I have been using this activity for many years now, ever since my son could hold a camera and press the shoot button. I gave him an old digital camera that I would not be heartbroken about if it got lost or damaged.. If you want to use your phone then this is also ok. Reaching out to your local Facebook Buy Nothing group i...s a great way to be gifted a camera if you don't have one. If you are out and about these school holiday's make sure you have a camera at the ready to hand over, and if you do I'd love to see what captures your child's world.

Pic of my daughter and I on our last big holiday together, remembering the days when we could safely travel. 1. What is mum's name? 2. How old is mum? 3. What makes mum happy? 4. What is mum really good at? 5. What does mum not like doing? 6. What is mum's special talent? 7. What is mum's Favourite food? 8. What do you like doing with mum? 9. Do you and mum share facial features, what are they? 10. If your mum could become famous, what would it be for?

03.01.2022 This week at playgroup we started the process of making salt dough Christmas decorations at the park, as we did not have an oven to cook the decorations, the families took their decorations home with instructions to cook them in the oven and then they could paint them once they cool and hang them on the Christmas tree. The children enjoyed participated in the prep work of making the dough, they ventured off in the sensory exploration of touch and smell. The parents and I dis...cussed the expectation of completing a task from beginning to end that we put on ourselves, we took a moment today to sit back 'pause our inhibitions' and watch how much the children just enjoyed messy tactile touch and play. We discussed that it was ok to step in and show our children that there are steps to an activity, then to pull back and just let the child deconstruct those steps or process them in their own way, even if the end result is not a finished product. A finished product, a successful activity can also be a happy child.
