23.01.2022 The children have been wonderfully responsive to my new assistant, Meditation Bear (Meddy Teddy). The children have been awesome in following the visual cues from Meddy Teddy with verbal instructions from myself for poses that involve laying on their tummy. My growing baby bump offers an opportunity to lead by example when listening to what your body is saying and making modifications. #kidsyogasydney #kulayogis #mindfulnessforchildren #mindfulkids #kidsyoga #meddyteddy #meditationbear

21.01.2022 DiNoSaUr YoGa! At one centre this week and last, the children hopped into their yoga time machines and were sent back over 200 million years ago to the time of the dinosaurs. On the back of cut out dino feet were a number of dinosaurs and related pictures for the children to bend, stretch, breathe and balance into such as Pterodactyl, Stegosaurus, Tyrannosaurus rex, Saltopus, Brachiosaurus, Sarcosuchus, volcano, large trees and a dinosaur egg. After tucking into dinosaur egg... pose the children rocked and rolled to crack the egg open and transform using their imagination into baby dinosaurs that grew into huge stomping dinosaurs. During this yoga experience, I encouraged the children to challenge and extend their balance further by inviting them to have a go lifting up into Pterodactyl on one leg, stretching up and walking on their toes for Brachiosaurus and holding tree pose a little longer than normal. During this, a number of children noted they wobbled and felt they "couldn't do it." I explained that wobbling is part of learning to balance and finding their centre, it is part of the process, developing a safe learning environment for the children to persevere and take time to develop and master skills. #kidsyogasydney #kulayogis #mindfulnessforchildren #mindfulkids #kidsyoga #kidsyogathemes #dinosauryoga See more

08.01.2022 Hope everyone has been enjoying the Xmas festive season! I know my little yogis have been with a yoga journey to the North Pole to help Elle the Elf pack presents as well as get Santa's reindeer and sleigh prepared. Depending on the age, time available and interest per group, a range of down time activities were on offer from moving breath snowballs to toe yoga (toega) where the children got there toes engaged by picking up the mini snow balls with their toes only. Warming up, we sang and moved to a yoga short version of yoga jingle bells and kept the bells on our wrists for most of the class to sound like Xmas. #christmasyoga #kidsyoga #kidsyogasydney #kulayogis #kidschristmasyoga #xmasyoga #kidsxmasyoga #kidsmindfulnesss #kidswellness

07.01.2022 With a heavy get excited heart, I wrapped up the physical side of teaching for maternity leave. Yoga is consistently about tuning into to what your body is telling you, not pushing further into injury but nudging beyond what you believe yourself capable, it teaches us the balancing act of being respectful towards yourself and reaching slightly above your limits to continually extend yourself. I'm always inviting the children to check in with themselves, they have control over... their bodies, they want to feel stretch and strength but if they get to a point where they say "ow!" listen to that and go back to a point where that is not happening. Leading by example, opening the discussion a few weeks ago, I have been chatting with the children across centres explaining that body is getting to a point where it's telling me to stop, slow down and focus on the final growth of my bub and let my body rest. While we were all sad about it the children are excited about a visit sometime after the baby arrives and some have suggested I bring the baby in so we can all do baby yoga. As the number of classes reduced over the last weeks, for my last two classes I invited any of the 3 and then 4 year olds who wanted to part take in one last class as a big group. Class sizes usually range from 8-12 but for these last two there were 26 x 3 year olds and 20 x 4 year olds. It's a reflection to their growth and practice over the past year and half and to the mutual respectful relationship between myself and the children that big these large group classes went cooperatively and smoothly with both fun and peace. Ps. Also in the process of changing the name from Kula Yogis to Kids Yoga Collective. Having some issues with Facebook accepting the new name. #kidsyogasydeney #kidsyoga #kulayogis #kidsyogacollective
