25.01.2022 IN THE GARDEN CENTRE: Grevillea sericea ‘Pink Form’ 140mm pot - $14.95 each Grevillea sericea is a vigorous, small to medium sized shrub which produce a profusion of pink spider-like flowers over a long period from early Autumn through to Spring. They are grouped into clusters on the short branchlets which grow off the main stem which are attractive to bees. An adaptable plant for sun to part shade, prefers well drained soils. Can be left to grow on its own where it will form an attractive informal shape, but also responds well to regular pruning for a more compact habit. Growing to a height and width of 2 metres make this species a perfect specimen for any garden which will encourage the small honey eating birds and the beautiful finches.

25.01.2022 As flattering as it can be that critters find our gardens delicious - eliminating pests means more home grown goodness for you to enjoy! For a plant-friendly, biodegradable, bug spray all you need is: A spray bottle 1 Tbsp. (15mL) Dr. Bronner’s Castile Soap... 1 quart (1 L) water Combine the soap and water in a spray bottle. Spray plants thoroughly. Be sure to spray stems, and under the leaves where bugs hide. Spray early in the morning or evening so that the heat of the day does not evaporate the spray immediately and is effective longer. You may need to spray plants daily for a while to thwart an intense infestation. Happy planting!

21.01.2022 BRUCE'S PLANT OF THE WEEK: Grevillea 'Moonlight' 140mm pot - $13.95 each... Grevillea Moonlight is one of the best Grevilleas! it is tough and adaptable and also flowers all year round. It is great as a feature plant due to its flower power but also makes an effective informal screen or hedge growing up to 3 metres tall with a 2 metre spread. Also a great cut flower and bird attracting, especially with the flowers being laden with nectar all year round. The flowers are produced in groups at the ends of the branches, so as each group of flowers finishes it is best to trim off that whole shoot behind the spent flower heads. Each flower can reach up to 25cm long making a wonderful statement. Tolerant of 2nd line salt, humidity, frosts and once established drought. A fantastic grevillea choice, especially for warmer climates. #kunaragardencentre

This plant is an extremely hardy weed-suppressing ground cover for embankments, verges, streetscapes and high traffic areas. Its dense growth makes it a great plant for suppressing weeds. Myoporum parvifolium 'Fine Leaf Form' is a very quick growing plant that stays very low to the ground to produce a fantastic green 'lawn' in your garden. 16.01.2022 IN THE GARDEN CENTRE Grevillea curviloba ‘Flat Jack’ 140mm - $14.95 each Grevillea curviloba is one of the best flowering native groundcovers around. It has really fine green, needle-like foliage and in Spring it produces masses of highly fragrant cinnamon-scented white flowers which attracts native birds and bees. One of the very few Grevilleas which has a lovely scented flower. In the right spot, it is fast-growing and spreads to around two metres. This hardy groundcover is perfect for covering rocky slopes, cascading over a retaining wall or as a low growing border plant.

15.01.2022 Our ambassador, Laura Scherian making us laugh with her non-stop pun skills "So, this week in Shez's Kitchen I decided to 'relish' in the fact that I bought too many beetroots So, the obvious choice was to make Beetroot Relish with Bragg Apple Cider Vinegar Recipe INGREDIENTS LIST:... 3 large organic beetroots (about 600g), peeled and coarsely grated 1 organic brown onion, coarsely grated 1 green organic apple, coarsely grated cup coconut sugar cup Bragg apple cider vinegar cup water 2 Tbsp. currants 1 tsp. ground all spice METHOD: 1. Place all ingredients in a pot, give it a stir. Cover and bring to the boil over high heat, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for 20 minutes. 2. Remove lid and continue to simmer until liquid has evaporated and beetroots are tender and glossy. 3. Place in a jar and store in the fridge for 1-2 weeks. Eucalyptus curtisii, commonly known as Plunkett mallee, is a species of mallee or small tree that is endemic to south-east Queensland. It has smooth grey to silvery bark, lance-shaped, narrow elliptic or curved adult leaves, White, showy flowers appear in spring and early summer. Plunkett Mallee is a very ornamental small tree growing to 3 to 4 metres with a similar spread. Plants will often flower three years after planting. 13.01.2022 VEGAN GINGERBREAD DONUTS From @becsvegankitchen A healthy take on the traditional donut, just in time for the festive season. These gingerbread donuts are completely vegan, wholesome and simple to make.... Ingredients: Donut 1 flax egg (1 tablespoon ground flax seeds or linseed and 3 tablespoons cold water, whisked together and set aside to thicken for 15 minutes) 115g OWN dates, soaked in boiling water for 10 minutes 1 cup oat flour (ground rolled oats) 1 tablespoon OWN rapadura sugar 2 teaspoons ground ginger 1 teaspoon cinnamon powder 1 teaspoon baking powder 1 teaspoon baking soda 3/4 cup Oatly Organic oat milk Icing: 8 tablespoons canned coconut cream, place the can of coconut cream in the fridge overnight so that the cream separates from the liquid (you will want to use the thick part of the coconut cream for the icing) 1 teaspoon maple syrup 3 tablespoons Chefs Choice rose water 1 drop rose pink food colouring Method: Preheat oven to 180 degrees celsius. Place all of the donut ingredients into a high-speed blender and blend until smooth. Spoon the mixture in a medium donut tray and smooth it out with the back of your spoon (it will be approximately 2 tablespoons of mixture per donut hole). Bake for 15-25 minutes or until a knife comes out clean when inserted into the donut centre. Remove tray from the oven and allow to cool completely before attempting to remove them from the tray. In a medium mixing bowl add 4 tablespoons of the thick part of the coconut cream, the maple syrup, rose water and food colouring. Whip together with an electric beater for 5 minutes. Place the icing in the fridge for 30-60 minutes or until thickened. Dip the top of the donuts into the icing and place onto a plate. Place the plate in the freezer to harden the icing. Repeat this process twice to ensure a thick coating, smoothing out or adding extra texture with the back of a spoon. Store the donuts in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days.

12.01.2022 Sunday snack prep with Minty Choc Truffles! A little bite of rich, smooth, and tasty chocolate, with a sprinkle of crunch and a hint of mint. These minty truffles are truly divine, and sure to be a hit with your friends and family. A great home-made gift or something a little bit sweet to share after a dinner party.... INGREDIENTS LIST: 250g bulk dark chocolate, finely chopped cup Chefs Choice coconut milk cup Flannery’s cacao nibs pinch of salt 2 drops of Chefs Choice pure peppermint extract 2-3 Tbsp. Flannery’s cacao powder METHOD: 1. Place chocolate in a large mixing bowl. Heat coconut milk in a small saucepan until it just starts to simmer. 2. Pour coconut milk over chocolate and loosely cover to trap in heat, leave for 5 minutes. Then, lift the cover and gently stir, until completely melted and well combined. 3. Add salt, peppermint extract and cacao nibs and combine. Put mixture, uncovered, in the fridge to set for 2-3 hours. 4. Once firm, pour cacao powder into a small bowl ready to roll prepared truffle. 5. Use a teaspoon to scoop out a portion of mixture, quickly roll mixture into balls using your hands. Then roll in cacao powder. Continue this step until all mixture is used. Refrigerate truffles for 1-2 hours or ideally overnight so they are firm and set before serving. If it is warm these truffles will melt quickly, so store and serve from freezer. Recipe by @laura_scherian See more

If grown on the right soil, blueberries are a relatively easy crop to grow. Bacteria (which are used to ferment things) have amazing capabilities that allow them to extract nutrients out of certain plants that we otherwise wouldn’t have access to. These bacteria are also what makes the food probiotic, meaning that when we consume them, they interact with the bacteria in our guts, and help modulate it making our guts love us back. They are also what makes these foods living...! In this burger from Peace, Love & Vegetables you’ll find sauerkraut, which is fermented cabbage and their NEW Mediterranean cashew cheese containing strings of bacteria that benefit our guts and therefore our overall health Plus these burgers taste ridiculously good! 07.01.2022 BRUCE'S PLANT OF THE WEEK Come in to Kunara Garden Centre Metrosideros queenslandica ‘Queensland Golden Myrtle’ 200mm pot - $24.95 each... The Golden Myrtle comes from the Atherton Tableland in Far North Queensland but can be grown anywhere in the subtropics and in sheltered warm-temperate gardens. It’s an excellent ornamental for warm-climate gardens because of its small size and naturally rounded shape growing to 4 to 5 metres high with a width of only 2 to 2.5 metres. Few rainforest plants light up the forest in summer like the Golden Myrtle. And these flowers, borne in racemes at the ends of the branchlets, glow with a special lustre even at midday when the sun is at its brightest. This is because each one of the tiny five-petalled blossoms carries an anther tipped with a large oil gland on the end of long, protruding stamens. #kunaragardencentre

04.01.2022 We're ready for breakfast tomorrow with our "Blueberry Pie Overnight Oats" You've been loving our value packs of Elgin Organic Wild Blueberries so we’ve upped our breakfast game by giving you permission to have ‘pie’ for breakfast. This topping is a bit of a sweet one, but it’s a total gamechanger. Baking these oats helps them lose their sogginess and transform into a delicious and nutritious meal. All with a little preparation the night before. Overnight oats can ...be a hit or miss for some, not only is it super convenient way to enjoy breakfast on-the-go, but some may not enjoy the texture of oats that have soaked for hours. However, soaking is a great way to get the deeper benefits that oats contain. Recipe by @the.sunnystudio Ingredients: 1 3/4 Cups OWN Rolled Oats 1/4 cup OWN Organic Raw Sugar 1 tsp. Baking powder Pinch of Salt 1/4 tsp. Cinnamon powder 1 1/2 cups Bonsoy 1 tbsp flax meal mixed with 3 tbsp. water - set aside to thicken 2 tablespoons vegan butter, melted 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1 cup Elgin Frozen Wild Blueberries Pie Topping: 1/4 cup vegan Butter 1/4 cup OWN Organic Raw Sugar or Rapadura Sugar 1/4 Cup Kunara Wholemeal Flour Serve with Coconut Yoghurt & extra blueberries METHOD: 1. In a large bowl, stir together the oats, sugar, baking powder, salt and cinnamon. 2. Add the Bonsoy (or alternative milk), flax egg, melted butter and vanilla extract. Combine well, then add the Wild blueberries and stir lightly. 3. Pour the mixture into a pan, or cake tin and cover. Leave in the fridge overnight. 4. The next morning preheat an oven to 170 degrees. 5. Create your ‘pie’ topping by using your fingers to rub the cold butter, sugar and flour together in a small bowl. 6. Crumble this topping on the top of the soaked oats, and place in the oven for 30 minutes or until the topping is golden. 7. Top with yoghurt and some extra blueberries and enjoy! See more

Beloved beautiful local native quandong tree, very disease resistant and needs little maintenance. Produces attractive glossy dense foliage and bronze new growth. The fruit is small and blue following cream scented flowers in early summer. A very popular and difficult plant to find which in cultivation generally grows to around 7 to 10 metres tall with a relatively narrow width between 2 to 4 metres. Likes a soil rich in organic matter and grows best in warm, temperate/tropical conditions, however, will tolerate protected coastal exposure. .
