25.01.2022 Its something so many like to do, especially on long drives. Trouble is, all modern cars have air bags and those on the passenger side are right under your fee...t when theyre up on the dash. In a crash they go from packed away to fully deployed in something like 1/20th of a second. The forces that do that will also drive your feet and legs back into your face and upper body. This is made worse by the fact that the sudden stop of the crash is also forcing your body to slide under the seat belt. Injuries include: - compound leg fractures (the broken bones are pushed through the skin) - ruptured bowel - torn aorta (the very big artery carrying blood from your heart to the rest of your body) - torn spinal column - shattered facial bones. In short - injuries that can maim, paralyse and even kill. The video on this link is courtesy of Fire & Rescue NSW: https://www.facebook.com/NarrabeenFireStation/videos/719882331759590/?t=0 The pic of the feet on the dash was taken in our car park. The pic of the shattered pelvis is from the internet (if youre squeamish, dont go there).

19.01.2022 PLEASE BE VIGILANT. Weve had a number of break and enters and steal from motor vehicles in the lower section of our command over the last week. It appears that doors and windows of some of the properties were closed but not locked, allowing the thieves easy access to the victims homes. When you leave your home please ensure that your windows and doors are not simply closed but locked. ... If you have an alarm, remember to activate it. If your car is parked in the street or your driveway, remember to lock it. If youre working in your rear backyard then remember to lock the front door and windows. The harder you make it for a criminal to steal from you what is yours, the more likely they will go elsewhere and find an easier victim.

16.01.2022 With many taking part in satellite motorcycle rides, the police family has come together online to commemorate the annual Wall to Wall: Ride for Remembrance. Th...e charity event, first held in 2010, is a police memorial motorcycle ride that honours the service and sacrifices of fallen Australian police, raises funds in support of fallen officers families and promotes road safety. Traffic and Highway Patrol Commander, Assistant Commissioner Karen Webb, joined former Assistant Commissioner Michael Corboy and Wall to Wall NSW president, Acting Superintendent Ben Macfarlane, for an intimate ceremony in The Domain this morning (Saturday 12 September 2020). Assistant Commissioner Webb said that, despite the COVID-19 pandemic, there was still an overwhelming support from the community for the ride. We do acknowledge members of the police family that are unable to be with us due to the current restrictions, Assistant Commissioner Webb said. Although they are not here with us physically, we know that we have the support of our police family across the country. Its a very solemn occasion as we remember five police officers killed across the country, including the tragic passing of Constable Aaron Vidal from Sydney City Police Area Command. Following the ceremony, a small physically-distanced group of police motorcyclists began the ride from The Domain to the National Police Memorial in Canberra today. A total of 1300 people have registered, despite not being able to participate the official ride. Many have instead organised their own satellite rides in small groups before viewing the live streamed ceremony from Canberra. The names of any officers who have died in the past year are added to the National Wall of Remembrance. All funds raised during the Wall to Wall ride by the NSW contingent will go toward NSW Police Legacy. NSW Police Legacy provides care and support to more than 20,000 serving and retired police officers and their families during times of tragedy and need. 16.01.2022 Parent, Oh, there’s the police. You’d better be good, or they will arrest you, take you away and put you in jail. Police officer, "Uhhmmmm really??? No, not g...oing to happen!" It’s something we hear way too often while out walking through shopping centres. Please teach your children not to be scared of Police. Teach them, Police are there to help them, we are Safe Adults in the community along with their mum and dad, grandparents and teachers. Teach them if they get lost, we help them find their mum or dad. If they need help, look for one of us and we’ll be more than happy to assist. If our children grow up in an environment where their parents are teaching them to fear police, then who will they feel safe enough to talk to when they need help? Next time, when you and your children walk past police officers in a shopping centre, give them a wave and say hi. If it’s me you wave to, we promise to wave and say hi back. Be sure to share this post to help get the word out there!

10.01.2022 Did you know that NSW Police were used to escort gold in the gold rush days? With the discovery of gold in New South Wales, the Gold Escort were formed in 1851.... During this period, police from the United Kingdom were offered free passage to NSW in return for three years service as colonial police. These years also saw the rise of the bushranging era. In 1862, riots on the goldfields at Lambing Flat (near Young) saw police and the military deployed to restore peace and lead to a new push for more effective policing in the colony. One significant incident during this time was the robbery at Escort Rock. On June 15, 1862 one of the most audacious acts of bushranging in Australias history took place near the village of Eugowra in New South Wales Central West Region. The place is now known as Escort Rock. Frank Gardiner and his gang of about eight bushrangers, which sometimes included the infamous Ben Hall, held up a gold coach which was travelling from Forbes to Sydney. In the shootout that followed at Escort Rock, the bushrangers overwhelmed the four police escorts, leaving two of the officers wounded and making off with around 2700 ounces of gold (around 76kg) and a number of bags filled with cash. It was the largest gold robbery in Australias history with the majority of the gold still unaccounted for and in todays currency would amount to many millions of dollars. Have a great weekend

06.01.2022 A woman who died while canyoning in the Blue Mountains has been identified as a serving NSW Police officer. Senior Constable Kelly Foster, aged 39, died followi...ng a canyoning incident at Mount Wilson yesterday (Saturday 2 January 2021). Snr Cst Foster attested on 27 August 2010, after which she commenced duties as a probationary constable at Newtown Local Area Command. She was confirmed as a constable in May 2012. In May 2014, Snr Cst Foster joined the State Crime Command working as an intel analyst until May 2020. She was most recently working at Chifley Police District, stationed at Lithgow Police Station. NSW Police Acting Commissioner Mal Lanyon has extended his condolences to the Foster family on behalf of the NSW Police Force. It’s a very sad time for the NSW Police Force and Kelly’s death is a loss to the whole community, Acting Commissioner Lanyon said. To hear reports that Kelly was trying to help another woman when she died demonstrates her commitment to the community she served and the ability to put the needs of others before her own. Kelly was a highly regarded and dedicated officer who will be sorely missed by colleagues across the force. Her policing career was put on hold when she was diagnosed with breast cancer, however, her strength to survive this and return to work is another testament to her strength and resilience. Above all, Kelly was a kind and loving daughter, sister and partner. Snr Cst Foster’s family have requested privacy at this time.

04.01.2022 We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again. TIP no 1: KEEP LOOKING WHEN COOKING! Today Gordon firefighters were called to a unit fire in a kitchen caused by f...ood igniting on a stove. Upon seeing flames erupting from the oil in the pan the unfortunate resident thought they were doing the right thing and placed the burning pan under the tap in the kitchen sink. TIP no 2: NEVER EVER PLACE A PAN ON FIRE UNDER A RUNNING TAP! The result, a huge fire ball that reached the roof and triggered the sprinkler system resulting in a completely flooded unit. This situation can be extremely dangerous. If a pan catches on fire cover it with a lid if safe and remove it from the heat if possible or alternatively cover with a fire blanket. Remove to a safe space like an outdoor balcony when it’s safe to do so. If you are unable to do this call 000 immediately, close doors behind you, turn off the stove if safe and get out and stay out until fire crews arrive. Never re enter a burning building.
