09.01.2022 This first workshops features segmented fish and mermaids, the exercise explores mixing tonal colours with quality teaching learning materials. Construction with wire, beads, cork and egg cups for a delightful marine decoration. The current exhibition theme at Tactile Arts is "Reef" and children will visit with fascination the Reef exhibition and view the craft and art of the members show in the gallery. Ceramics, collage, painting, jewellery, sculpture, printing, textile and construction works are some of the disciplines of Tactile Arts members.

07.01.2022 Rhodochrosite (meaning rose coloured from greek) is often confused with Rhodonite (both are manganese silicates), rhodochrosite is much softer. It is Argentinas national stone. A manganese carbonate mineral, rhodochrosite occurs as a hydrothermal vein mineral along with other manganese minerals in low temperature ore deposits as in the silver mines of Broken Hill, Romania and Argentina. Rhodochrosite forms a complete solid solution series with iron carbonate (siderite). Calcium, (as well as magnesium and zinc, to a limited extent) frequently substitutes for manganese in the structure, leading to lighter shades of red and pink, depending on the degree of substitution. It is for this reason that the most common color encountered is pink.

07.01.2022 The Churchill fellowship award to an absolutely driven artist, Dawn Beazley. Dawn works at the studios where I also work, I have watched the beautiful porcelain moulded pieces being built with great interest and admiration. Porcelain is made to a recipe and moulding is a particular craft. Dawn will travel to China eventually to learn from the Chinese, originators of the process.
