25.01.2022 Not a Rotary focused post, just something humorous to lighten up the day in these serious times!

24.01.2022 Happy New Rotary Year to all from Lane Cove Rotary! Thanks Evan for the art work.

24.01.2022 A great graphic for the new Rotary Year theme "Rotary Opens Opportunities"!

23.01.2022 Next year is the Centenary of Rotary in Australia and New Zealand. Rotary is where neighbours, friends and problem-solvers share ideas, join leaders and take ac...tion to create lasting change. The Governor-General and Mrs Hurley are delighted to serve as Ambassadors of the Centenary celebrations and have shared a message with Rotary Clubs as they begin planning. One of the characteristics of Rotarians I admire greatly is their ability to think big they are not afraid to tackle the big projects. In dreaming big and achieving much, Rotary Clubs and their members continue to make outstanding contributions to society. Thank you for your community service. Rotary100downunder

23.01.2022 The FIRST female President of Rotary International has been elected! Congratulations to Jennifer Jones of Canada!!

23.01.2022 A great way to promote that July is Leadership Month. The tagline is very appropriate too.

22.01.2022 Our first Zoom on-line meeting in the new Rotary Year had an inspirational speaker In Fi Shewring. She established Supporting And Linking Tradeswomen (SALT) in 2009, a non-profit incorporated organization, which began to provide a support network for tradeswomen, apprentices and women who wish to enter the trades. Since the beginning; with Fis enthusiasm and drive, they have run over 200 SkillWomen Workshops with almost 10,000 participants across five states of Australia T...he SkillWomen Workshops teach women and girls in high schools, primary schools and communities how to use tools with their unique mobile workshop. These workshops have always been very low cost or free for participants and women from the ages of 96 right down to little girls of 2 years have enjoyed learning how to use tools. SALT represents many different trades has always encouraged women and men to be involved. Fi herself has a degree in ceramics, is a mother of five and took up working as a painter and decorator to generate an income with her husband. It was a great pleasure to have Fi as a speaker and we should also mention that she is of recent times a Rotarian with the Wollongong Rotary Club See more

22.01.2022 We were privileged to a fascinating talk on 15 September by Juliet Wills, author of the real-life book titled The Diamond Dakota Mystery, a true story of tragedy and missing treasure on the west coast of Australia. In March 1942 a DC-3 aircraft ferrying Dutch refugees and military personnel from Dutch East Indies (Indonesia) is intercepted and shot down by Japanese aircraft near Broome, WA. On board the aircraft was also a secret parcel that had to be collected the Commonwealth Bank of Australia. When the plane glided and crashed into the remote beach at Carnot Bay north of Broome. Not everyone survived. - There were also millions of dollars worth of diamonds on board, - what happened to them?

20.01.2022 A sad day as Sir Clem was the instigator of the End Polio Now program to rid the world of polio.

20.01.2022 END POLIO NOW WORLDWIDE A LITTLE CLOSER. . .

18.01.2022 Dr Daniel Nour, Director of Street-Side Medics gave an inspiring presentation on what is essentially a mobile clinic, fitted out like a general practice to provide medical examination, basic pathology and minor surgical procedures in predetermined areas in Sydney to provide free medical services to members of the homeless. Homelessness has increased by 63% in the past 5 years and in many instances homeless people will not seek medical attention. He is passionate about changing the life of "one person at a time". He and his team are currently working with the Northern Sydney Local Health District to expand Street-Side Medics to the North Shore areas.

18.01.2022 Due to the uncertainty of the Covid crisis, the Rotary Club of Lane Cove and Lane Cove Council have agreed to cancel the Lane Cove Rotary Fair and Sustainability Lane on Sunday 11th October 2020. Service NSW has advised of restrictions regarding gatherings and social distancing in one place. Unfortunately Street/Spring fairs in a number of neighbouring areas have also been cancelled. Both organisations believe that this is the responsible decision to ensure community protection.

In his capacity as National Vice President and NSW President of ABC Friends he delivered a passionate overview of the ABC our Australias National Broadcaster. Why is it in Crisis? Over the past 30 years it has faced a steady decline in funding by a death of 1000 cuts.
