18.01.2022 The difference that makeup and lighting makes in your portraits. It was time to update my head shots as it has been 4 years since I have! :) This image has not been retouched (skin retouching). It didn't need it due to the makeup and lighting. As it was a self portrait, it is also partially out of focus and if I did retouching it would have been way too much on the left side of my face. ... This is a little trick they also use in movies and TV. You can see the right side of my face is sharper due to where the camera was focused. The only retouching I did do on my skin was remove a chicken pox scar, and a couple of spots I have on my face. However due to makeup and lighting I did not need skin retouching/ "airbrushing" even though I am blatantly aware my skin looks retouched. At LA Photography I employ amazing makeup artists because their makeup does a lot of the "retouching" for me. I'm far from a professional makeup artist, but you can see the coverage on my face. I put a layer of concealer on, foundation, a layer of bronzer and blush. It still does not completely hide smile lines, and that is why we often go for a relaxed smile in portraits. I'm in my late 40's so I am developing lines that I have earnt over the years. I don't plan to hide my lines just simply show the best version of me that I can at this time. I did tuck my tummy in slightly and that was only because of the way I had my hand in my pocket, I made it look like my tummy was bigger than it is as my hand was mistakingly pointed forward. Lighting makes a BIG difference in our skin. Try it for yourself with your mobile phone. Walk around in different light and see the difference in your skin. Here I have employed directional lighting where I lit myself with 2 continual lights, and a Profoto A1 on camera strobe. The softer you make your light, the softer your face looks and the reduced need for retouching. These are the little differences you can experience with having your headshots and portraits taken by a professional. We know the tricks of how to stand and hold ourselves and lighting we need to show our best selves with reduced need for extensive retouching. What does your headshot say about you? 16.01.2022 OUTLANDER FANS!! Helloooo everyone it has been a LONG time since I have posted here! I have been extremely busy working on my Outlander work and just recently got back from Scotland at the end of last month. I arrived in Sydney on the 29th March and was in Quarantine for 14 days and the had to drive from Sydney to the Gold Coast due to booked out flights! What a crazy time it has been! LA Photography will be back offering portraits soon within a couple of months I hope. MY ...FIRST PRIORITY to both myself and my clients is safety during this time, but please know you will be expecting more from this page. 11.01.2022 OUTLANDER THROUGH THE STONES AND LA PHOTOGRAPHY UPDATE: Currently, I am preparing to have a preventative double Mastectomy next month on the 13th. I therefore apologise for the recent lack of content. As well as looking after my health, I am refurbishing my portrait studio which will also be my OUTLANDER GALLERY. I've been asked what is an Outlander Gallery?... Well.... for anyone who is on or passes through the Gold Coast you are welcome to pop in and view my frames of my work of the Outlander locations. My Outlander products will also be available and I will have slide shows of the locations. When the studio and gallery is opened, you will be welcome to pop in with no expectation to buy. For anyone who has travel plans to Scotland to tour the locations, I also invite you to visit me at the gallery where I can offer as much advice as my free content allows. Following surgery, I will be continuing the work I am preparing which will assist anyone in touring the locations. Firstly, there is no need to be concerned for me this surgery will contribute to my health in the long run and I am very much looking forward to it resolving a few things for me. My mum passed away from ovarian cancer due to having the Brcca 2 gene mutation, and there is a 50% chance I have it. My symptoms show me the surgery is necessary, and the main thing is it has impacted my immune system. I simply therefore need to rest a lot. I made the decision that as I couldn't do the Outlander tour originally planned for the 20th of this month to use this time to have the surgery before going back into work. The intention was so that I could have it before resuming work so it didn't interrupt my work causing me to let clients down. 11.01.2022 A mother & daughter milk bath shoot in Vilnius, Lithuania with mum Julija and baby Silvia. Think of the most nurturing experiences you shared with your mother. They probably involved those times where she dressed you, prepared you for the day and gave you a kiss as it was time to enter the school ground. Can you remember the times where you were completely reliant on your mother and you weren't even able to bathe yourself? I don't know about you, but I certainly can't.... When Silvia is 18 or 21 she will have these beautiful nurturing moments and memories shared with mum Julija. Consider this unique experience when the LA Photography studio is back open :) <3 See more

09.01.2022 Self portraits to prepare for a preventative double mastectomy: Another (failed) attempt at FILM NOIR... but I still like the photo so I'm posting it. I realise quickly that this style of photography is also helping me to document my journey as I approach my double mastectomy. This attempt is also probably the closest to correct Film Noir in terms of lighting/ posing/ style/ amount of grain despite it got blurred.... and even some blur is ok in Film Noir. FILM NOIR is not s...imply black and white. Think back to the 1920's- 1940's movies and that will tell you a little of what I am working towards. I REALLY wish it didn't get so blurred because I otherwise love this photo for something different from me lol. I had my shutter remote going and yet this was the ONLY one that got blurred all the others in the sequence weren't so go figure that lol. It's also hard to get this lighting right when I'm the one taking the photo as well as being the subject. I think I currently feel drawn to this style because Film Noir normally has strong femininity, which I feel like I am in the process of losing with having a double mastectomy. In another sense, I also feel like I am GAINING it. I've already had a total abdominal Hysterectomy, and now I need to have a double mastectomy. My question therefore to myself is.... what does that mean for my femininity? Society tells me being feminine requires me having 2.4 (or is it 2.3 lol?) kids and a family and that's something I will never have. Does that mean I've lost my femininity? I've decided no. I also want to send this message out to other woman who may feel that Menopause, Hysterectomies, cancer of the reproductive system, chemotherapy for cancers of the reproductive system and all of these things don't need to influence how FEMININE we feel. Our femininity is completely and ONLY defined by US. NO REAL FUR WAS USED IN THIS SHOOT.... that is a sheep skin rug :) See more

08.01.2022 A mummy and me session in Vilnius, Lithuania. Mummy and me sessions are one of the most popular at LA Photography and this one is one with a difference. Here Julia and her daughter are in a bath filled with milk dressed in clothes provided by LA Photography. Spa sessions can be provided at the Gold Coast studio where the temperature can be set between 26- 40 degrees to your comfort :) <3

03.01.2022 BLACK LIVES MATTER- my take: Many marketers are using this time to market "Black Lives Matter" for their own purpose. Here is an example: As a photographer I could post an image of the several portraits of black clients to show you that "LA Photography really cares about black people". However, here is my take: If you have a look through my portfolio you'll see for years I have been photographing clients of different Cultures.... I have done so intentionally because on a personal level it's important to me to show that I am not here just to photograph a specific "type". If I used this time to show portraits I have done of my past black clients who have since become friends, I can tell you now for one thing they wouldn't feel "included". They would feel used for my own gain- and so they should! As a photographer who photographs beauty the purpose is to show that ALL women are beautiful. I can only do this by showing portraits of ALL types of women. That includes all ages, all shapes and sizes and from ALL Cultures. I invite you to look through my portfolio and you will see how important this is to me, and has been to me throughout my entire career. Not just in response to current global protesting. For years I have been travelling the world and photographing women of as many different Cultures and colours that I can. I have photographed women from: Australia, USA (black and white), England, Vietnam cultures (in Australia), Hong Kong cultures (in Australia), Scotland, France, Czech Republic, Austria, Iceland, Lithuania and Finland. I have photographed several clients who don't even speak English and I have photographed clients where I required a translator present. My work is all about acceptance. 01.01.2022 Props for a shoot that didn't work out last night- that's $80 worth of apples there. When did apples get so expensive? I feel like that really doesn't look like $80 worth of apples. Don't ever buy the pre- packed ones either. The majority of those apples as I figured were all pretty bruised and wouldn't have been edible and a complete waste of money unless used like this. I'm going to redo this shoot which I'll have to do as a composite. I figured I would have but hoped I could do in camera. You maybe able to guess what inspired this shoot;
