24.01.2022 And Then There Were 4. Today saw the completion of the first rounds of the Mens and Ladies Club Championship Singles. There were some fantastic games with both reigning Club Champions having very tight matches eventually overcoming their opponents to advance to the Semis. Consistency was the key today and no one did that better than Vito Serafino and Susan Crouch, both proving they are the ones to watch out for in the Semi’s. Thank you to everyone who volunteered to mark today’s matches - The Semi finals and Final will be held on December 13th, hopefully we can have some spectators by then. Attached are photos of this afternoons action (sorry no ladies photos as photographers game finished long after the others).

23.01.2022 Getting To Know Our Members 1. Name: Vito Serafino 2. Nickname: none 3. Age: 72... 4. How long have you been playing bowls? Outdoors - 5 years. Indoors - 30 years 5. What got you into bowls? When I first came to Gippsland a neighbour invited me to the local hall for indoor bowls. 6. How many clubs have you been a member of? 2. Leongatha & Mardan 7. What type of bowls do you use? Dreamline XG. size 3H. Red and Navy 8. Do you remember what bowls you started with? Don’t recall 9. Greatest bowls achievement? This I remember well. The achievement was going from Pennant Div 3 to Div 2 in my second year of bowls. A lot of players were very emotional and when I enquired as to why they told me it hadn’t been done for 19 years. I realised that great achievement and I was proud to be apart of that team. 10. Favourite bowls memory? This weird year. 2019/2020. Personally and team wise I had a great year walking away with a Div 2 flag and being promoted to Div 1. 11. Hardest bowls moment? I don’t recall any hardest moment. 12. Favourite thing about the game? Being out in the open having a laugh with friends and watching players reactions. 13. Drink of choice after a game? Light Beer 14. Cheese and kabana or party pies? Cheese & Kabana 15. What club puts on the best spread? All good is greatly appreciated ( don’t want to upset the catering team ) 16. Funniest thing you’ve seen at bowls? Player stands on the mat. Lines up. Concentrates. Gets ready to bowl. Jack is in sight then BOWLS THE WRONG BIAS. 17. Best bowler you’ve ever played against? Every player in the competition 18. Favourite green you’ve ever played on? Why? Korumburra, because when the weather is good you can truely play your shot. 19. What would you like to achieve in bowls? Continue to play and be amongst others who enjoy the game. 20. Piece of advice you would give to someone starting out? Seek advice from experienced players, concentrate on shots you play and always practice. Don’t get discouraged, keep trying. See more

20.01.2022 Getting To Know Our Members - 1. Name: Lynne McIntyre 2. Nickname: nickname was The Gatha Terra when playing indoor cricket. ... 3. Age: 55 4. How long have you been playing bowls? Returned to Leongatha in 2013 and joined the club then. 5. What got you into bowls? Followed mum and dad into the club. Mum (Ellie) is a life member. Dad passed away a few years back. 6. What type of bowls do you use? Brand? Size? Colour? Grip? Yellow. Redline. Size 3. The larger size keeps me competitive against the men’s bigger bowls. 7. Greatest bowls achievement? Made it through to the semi finals of the novice event in my first year. 8. Favourite bowls memory? Put black tape on the yellow kitties at social bowls on 2017 AFL Grand Final Day. Did the trick as my beloved Tigers won that year. 9. Hardest bowls moment? When Div 3 pennant team were runners up. We missed out by 3 shots. Fortunately Div 1 claimed the flag that year. 10. Favourite thing about the game? It’s always a challenge. I love assessing wind, rink, opponent’s strategy and other conditions. 11. Drink of choice after a game? A cup of tea after the game is always welcome, but I do like a bourbon and cola too. 12. Cheese and kabana or party pies? Kabana has always been a favourite of mine. 13. What club puts on the best spread? I enjoy the spread at a Mirboo North. They do a great job for a small club. Of course our own club holds it’s own. 14. Funniest thing you’ve seen at bowls? Carol Thorn had a weighted kitty which rolled every which way. It was like rolling an egg down the green. And I can remember some respected women putting ice down their bras on a hot day. 15. Best bowler you’ve ever played against? I can’t put a name to the best player as every game is different. 16. Favourite format? 100 up. It pegs me against better bowlers and handicaps keep the game interesting. 17. What would you like to achieve in bowls? Getting a pennant grand final win would be epic. When it comes down to it I just want to keep improving and getting better. 18. Piece of advice you would give to someone starting out? My advice to a beginner would be just to relax and don’t forget to follow through. Lynne is pictured on the left after 2019/2020 B grade Singles Final in which she was runners up.
