23.01.2022 Rigid Heddle Loom Update Indirect Warping Option now available on all our standard rigid heddle looms 40cm, 60cm, 80cm and 120cm (16", 24", 32" and 48"). They n...ow have holes drilled in the bottom of the rails so you can use your loom as a warping frame for the indirect warping method. You can purchase a set of Rigid Heddle Warping Pegs from your local Ashford dealer, if you prefer to warp your loom in this way. There are 14 pegs included in the set, this will allow you to choose a variety of warp lengths. Some benefits of indirect warping are the flexibility to use one thread of one colour, it saves space, even warp lengths, better tension control. The approximate maximum warp lengths for each size loom are: RH400 - Rigid Heddle 40cm (16") - 4.7m (15.5') RH600 - Rigid Heddle 60cm (24") - 6.7m (22') RH800 - Rigid Heddle 80cm (32") - 8.7m (28.5') RH1200 - Rigid Heddle 120cm (48") - 12.7m (41.5')

22.01.2022 Due to the Corona Virus the Hervey Bay Camp has been cancelled for May. Still not sure what's happening with the Bornhoffen Camp, but will let you know if I hear of any changes. We have time to make wonderful designs, exercising our brains and hands (and even feet when spinning), while keeping our hearts happy. Although we cant catch up with our friends at meetings and camps, we can still communicate on the phone and Internet and share photos of our work with people who understand the joys of creating... something exceptional that will be kept for many years or given to someone special to treasure. Ashford have just introduced their latest weaving yarn - Caterpillar Cotton - 100% cotton variegated dyed yarn with a beautiful crimpy, spiral plied texture. Lovely and light weight - perfect for weaving, knitting and crochet - so soft and great to work with. Voluminous but not heavy with twice the bulk for the weight of the yarn. Six variegated colourways. Use alone or in combination with Ashford's solid colour ...cottons. Creates a woven fabric that is so light and soft, lovely to wear against the skin. 200gm cones. 680m/743yds Needle size 3-4, hook size 3.5-4.5, weaving sett 7.5-10 (lower sett of 5-8 recommended to showcase the yarn structure). 10.01.2022 The New Zealand government has just announced that all non-essential businesses are to close within 48 hours (mid-day Wednesday NZ time). New Zealand will be going into complete lockdown to contain the spread of COVID-19. This includes Ashford Handicrafts. If you place your orders NOW I will do my best to have them despatched prior to closing. Please keep in contact - this a time to stay safe and well and keep happy. Craft will hopefully keep us sane during these troubling times.

08.01.2022 Caterpillar Yarn on the loom. Sample made in Paua Colourway with Vari Dent Reed inserts in 5, 7.5, 10, 12.5 and 15 dents using a range of thicknesses of threads in the weft. Also tried weaving in Shirring Elastic. I've now warped up 5 metres in Inferno Caterpillar for warp on the 50cm Knitters Loom using a 10dpi reed and 10/2 Coral Red Cotton for the weft. Hope to make a dress once finished.

07.01.2022 Some great ideas for your Rigid Heddle Loom. For those with small work areas check out the warping pegs. Clasped weaving can create fabulous designs when used in the warp or the weft.
05.01.2022 Yeah Hervey Bay’s Campialba is going ahead this year (all being well) !! And it’s 3 fun filled days Friday, 30th April to Monday, 3rd May. This is always a great weekend with lots of Workshops, Tutorials and Information Sharing. Time to catch up with friends and make new ones. I will be providing Shetland Wool Sliver for the Longest Thread Competition this year you’ll only need to spin 2 grams of fibre, either on the Spinning Wheel or a Spindle (or both). They’re also... holding a ‘Mystery Length Lottery’. And of course I’ll have my Shop there with all your Ashford products, beautiful fibres and spinning, knitting, weaving, dyeing, felting and crochet accessories available. Some Ashford prices may change with their updates in March, but any orders placed by the end of February will be charged at the current prices, even if they're not collected until the Camp. 04.01.2022 More playtime with the Wavy Stick Shuttle. This was to be one half of a sleeveless jacket to put over T-Shirts in the Summer. Went to Boonah Camp and sold it as a scarf to a lovely lady there ! Hopefully find time to start the Jacket again soon, but loved the effect of white on white. Warp & Weft are Yoga Yarn woven with a 15dpi reed.
