17.01.2022 I had to do a repair on our 50+ year old Hydrolastic pump recently. A blocked up valve on a car and an inexperienced operator caused a pipe to blow off at over 600psi, far more pressure than the pump was ever ment to get too! A new brass olive was made and now the pump is back to full operation again.

12.01.2022 Wiper motor reconditioning is one of the specialist services we offer. Having the knowledge to rebuild them properly, with the correct parts, adjustments and then testing them to make sure they work at the correct speed, along with the parking function working properly, is a rare skill these days. Anyone can strip, clean & paint, but Link Automotive does it properly.

12.01.2022 Another set of carburetors reconditioned and fitted, this time onto a Riley Kestrel, a rather fancy version of a Morris 1100. We removed a worn out single SU and fitted the twins, as expected the Riley has become much more sprightly.

11.01.2022 I was having a conversation with a couple of very intelligent engine specialists today regarding decent pistons for A series engines and shared a few photos of whats currently available for our little engines. Both of them had a chuckle, one said "why are you using diesel pistons" We had a good laugh and now, on my behalf they are looking at getting some 21st Century pistons made for us in the USA, from specialists they use and trust. Watch this space.

11.01.2022 Primary gear clearance on a Mini engine is often overlooked when people build there own engines with the mentality of "put back what came out" Without having a box full of thrust washers also makes the job hard. Even with a box full of donor washers, sometimes a engine comes along that needs an oversize washer that you just cannot buy, so here at Link Automotive we make our own. The blanks are cut from bronze bar stock in our lathe and then finished to size with a surface grinder. Oil groves are the added with a small round file.

09.01.2022 Todays job. Sort out the tune on a MGBGT, V8. As usual, a monkey has had a go at the SU carburetors in the past, so we are sorting them out, properly. Myth - "SU carburetors need constant adjustments, they always go out of tune" Fact - Nope. Once set correctly they will provide many years of trouble free service. They only get "out of tune" when some Wally fiddles with them.

08.01.2022 One more wiper motor reconditioned. This Lucas DR3 unit is two speed, with parking function out of a Rover P4. We can fix all Lucas products, regardless of what people say about them!

08.01.2022 Been to the rest, now its come to the best. This poor little Mini K has had the run around for the last 6 months while the "experts" have had a crack at fixing it. Now, finally it will be repaired properly, and the wrongdoings of others reversed.

04.01.2022 Double row timing gears and a tensioner. Not many people do this but if you have a engine block that has been line bored this is an excellent way to take up any slack in the chain. A+ Timing covers with breather need to be modified to suit, so gears dont rub on the cover.

03.01.2022 I have just finished this L type SU fuel pump for a 1934 MG Magnette. Yes, you can a new one, but the customer wanted his original pump rebuilt. Luckily we have plenty of spare parts and was able to rebuild this pump back to original specifications.
