24.01.2022 Over the past couple of weeks the educators and children of the toddler room have given themselves a challenge to bring colour and fun into our outdoor play area. We set ourselves a goal to use mostly recycled materials to create new play spaces and garden beds whilst educating ourselves on how to be environmentally responsible. We have used plants that are low maintenance and obtained most of our equipment for free or a low cost. We have incorporated the childrens interests in our plans so that they would get more out of these experiences and their new environment. So please come and have a look at what the busy bees have been up to. #littlepeoplesplace #willagee #earlylearning #childcare #perth #environmentallyresponcible #reducereuserecycle #sustainable #backyardblitz

22.01.2022 Yesterday was National Sorry Day. We acknowledge the Whadjuk people of the Noongar Nation as the traditional custodians of the land we play, learn and work on. We pay our respects to Elders past and Elders present and give gratitude to the many Elders that guide us along this journey of reconciliation. With this in mind, we reflected and participated in a variety of opportunities. Our older children cut, glued and pinned native hibiscus flowers to their tops, the official sy...mbol of Sorry Day as authorised by the National Stolen Generations Alliance. We reflected upon the Aboriginal flag, it's colours and symbolism of the sun, land and people, then recreated this using coloured card in class groups incorporating this year's theme "In this together". We have begun to create and practice our own acknowledgement of country, saying hello land, hello sky, hello me and hello friends with actions associated with each step. Following the colours of the flag we made some headbands and handprints to use as a visual display of knowledge, respect and continual learning. We read stories including "When the snake bites the sun". Over the week we will continue along our journey of reconciliation In This Together. #InThisTogether2020 #NRW2020 See more

21.01.2022 As we were sitting eating our breakfast Julius was flying around the room like an aeroplane, Sammi asked Julius where he was going and Jay responded To Australia thats my home. Harry looked at Sammi and said, Well one of my teachers are from Africa and she lives there we then explored the different animals that are from Australia and the animals that are from Africa ! Sammi asked the children if they would like to find Australia and Africa on the globe. They jumped arou...nd very excitedly. Harry found Australia straight away !! We then ventured with our fingers and explored our imagination, flying all over the globe exploring and recognising all countries. #littlepeoplesplace #willagee #earlylearning #childcare #diversity #exploration

21.01.2022 It’s starting to feel a lot like Christmas ~ Kindy sign in station ~ Using an old pallet educator Sammi created a Christmas tree and painted it white, few years ago. Reusing this and creating a sign in station the children were then introduced to their very own bauble. Every child has their own unique bauble and will be encouraged to recognise their name upon drop off to sign themselves in as Santa loves to know who is at daycare. We love to influence and encourage the... children’s learning in anyway possible, in this case recognising their name is one of many skills they may need for big school and is a great way to give the children a sense of belonging. #littlepeoplesplace #willagee #childcare #earlylearning #selfhelpskills #recognition

20.01.2022 Taco Tuesday Today is Tuesday, and many of our children and educators love eating tacos on Tuesdays. Last week our kindy children picked a huge bowl full of lettuce that they have grown in the veggie patch to have with our tacos. The love and care we gave to our lettuce really paid off as we enjoyed the sweet, crispy lettuce leaves in our lunch. Great work kindy children!

19.01.2022 Family input - Webber reserve - Kindy What a beautiful afternoon to go and see our local construction site at Webber reserve. Lennys Mum told Educator Sammi that Lenny has been recognising the construction going on at the reserve and asking to go and see it. Taking this interest on board Educators waited for the weather to clear and took this opportunity to go on an excursion and visit the site as a class. The children were very excited! They collected their hats, bottles a...nd shoes and lined up with their partners and the emergency rope and waited patiently untill we were ready to go. We skipped all the way untill we arrived at the construction site and the workers noticed the children and waved through the gate, they introduced themselves and told the children they were making a new club house. The kindy were very inquisitive asking questions about what they were wearing, their safety gear, their tools.. it was fantastic. We then took advantage and enjoyed afternoon having our afternoon tea outside on the oval, the sun was shining and the children loved it. #childcare #earlylearning #kindyroom #construction #willagee #winter #excursion

18.01.2022 Upon Educator Sammis arrival she was approached by a very excited Jay (Jayjay) and Reece who wanted to proudly show her the tower they have made using some large wooden block resources. It was taller then Reece and almost as tall as Sammi! Their friends were watching them creating their tower and would walk around it with respect and caution, which was so nice to see. Educator Sammi then commended their efforts and enthusiasm for their construction and together they talke...d about what each part of the tower represented. Educator Sammi was amazed and gave them both a big cuddle and high five for working together and creating something so much imagination, which instantly gave them a sense of solitude and recognition as their smiles shone very brightly. We love team work! #construction #workingtogether #earlymornings #littlepeoplesplace #willagee #earlylearning #childcare

18.01.2022 - Team work - As a spontaneous experience was provided to the children yesterday which encouraged team work, manipulating equipment with competency and skill, quick thinking and negotiating through their environment safely, the children were challenged to create the tallest and strongest towers in 2 groups. As duplo is very popular and so is constructing cities educators wanted to incorporate this into an intentional teaching activity where they could encourage team work and... assist with this transition when needed. Today during free play, educator Sammi witnessed a small group of children incorporating the skills they learnt yesterday. They each gave themselves a role. James was using his very creative imagination and using the green duplo as flowers which needed to be spread through out the garden! Julius was the supervisor and Edmund and Lenny took their cues from him to create the big house. Jay was very content watching them create the house and garden as he narrated the story ! Working together to get the job done #teamwork #littlepeoplesplace #willagee #earlylearning #childcare #construction

18.01.2022 | Health and Balance flow Incursion | Today kindy children got a special visit from Julie helping them relax and focus. 17.01.2022 How does your garden grow? Recently we have encouraged families to explore their gardens (or local parks) with their children. If their is something their child shows an interest in, we are asking families to bring some of it in to share with us, such as leaves, herbs, stones... Today we received roses! What a special treat! I love roses, especially when they smell like an old fashion rose. Roses remind me of two things. First, they remind me of visiting Nana Taylor's house.... Nana Taylor is one of my biological Nana's best friends, and a Nana I adopted from a very young age. She lived in a house in West Swan with the most amazing rose garden, that was always very well kept and smelt so beautiful as you pulled into the drive way. Nana Taylor lives in a small unit now that she unable to run the vineyard of table grapes, but I still remember that rose garden and the smell every time I smell a proper rose. Also, I love Alice in Wonderland, all those painters painting the roses as they panted the wrong coloured roses before the Queen of Hearts came and shreaked "Off with their heads!" So yes, roses are one of my favourite flowers. As I'm sure you all know, I love to share stories, but my story actually relates to your children too. How you ask? Well... My memories of roses stem from my sense of smell and that is associated with a memory. There are many neuroscientists that have shown throughout their studies that different things can spark activity and memories in our brains, one of which is smell. So just think, this is a fun experience, we have explored the soft petals of the flowers, we have interacted verbally and non verbally with each other, we have taken turns, we have bridged learning and experiences from home with daycare... There is an abundance of learning that has taken place here. The children wont consciously remember this exact experience in another 10, 20 or 50 years, but they may remember this feeling of sharing and enjoyment when they smell a rose. I encourage you to take the time to smell the world around you, and if you and your child find something you would like to share from your garden, please continue to bring this in.

17.01.2022 Can anyone else see our the satisfaction in our little kindy friends face. Over time the children have been working through their literacy skills, through different types of challenges and discovering the differences between upper and lower case. This weeks school readiness was a great way for the educators to see how each childs progression is going identifying letters and linking them to upper and lower case. Zack was absalutely amazing and its evident how much he has improved !! #progression #earlylearning #littlepeoplesplace #childcare #willagee

16.01.2022 The life cycle of frogs As an ongoing extension of the life cycle of frogs in the kindy room, the Educators set up a display table. On our display table the children have the opportunity to reflect on past experiences such as how the cycle of eggs-frogs progresses. This has been taught through visual experiences such as a you-tube clip of story telling of a little green frog. Also a cutting and gluing experience which lead to placing the egg, tadpole, froglet and frog in... sequence. A counting experience which includes fine motor fun of pinching frogs with our play tweezers and counting and placing them on numbered leaves to that value. Then finally imagination exploration, where the children can freely play with frogs in a lake setting using natural rescouces and coloured sand. This is just the beginning of our Kindy rooms Frog cycle learning ! We cant wait to see where it will lead too. #frogs #thelifecycle #littlepeoplesplace #willagee #earlylearning #childcare #kindyroom #numeracy

15.01.2022 - School Holidays day 2 - Wetlands centre What a beautiful welcoming from the teachers from the wetland center who had a room and programs waiting for the children. Upon this excursion the children enjoyed learning about turtles, baby turtles and features the turtles have. Given the opportunity to feel the shell Of a turtle and see the insides enabled them to then manipulated clay and created their perception of the turtle which was so beautiful to see. ... Off on a trail walk we go through the wetland. On their adventure they came across rabbit holes, owl nests, felt different textures trees and saw two beautiful butterflies. At the end of a trail was an anchored patio which sat on the lake, they were able to see some small fish swimming, feathers in the lake and some unique birds. The children lay at one point on the patio and enjoyed watching the shadows from the lake on the roof. To end this beautiful experience, each child was given tools to which they used to story tell a Mother Turtle preparing to lay eggs, they had to on cue dig a hole, bury their eggs, then softly use pressure to push them in the ground and hide them. During this experience one of the children liked a leaf, this leaf Infact is a soap leaf that the aboriginals used for soap so the children picked some branches off and used them to later wash their hands by simply adding water. They were amazed What a beautiful day #wetland #turtle #littlepeoplesplace #earlylearning #childcare #willagee #kindy

Using all types of different resources the children make pink. Some used their fingers, elbows and paint brushes, others used stamps and playdough shapes. How do we make pink?"... You have red and white and mix it together, but not too much white here is the light pink and here is the dark - Geni Sammi I made pink and their is 9 dots on my sheet - Abigail #earlylearning #littlepeoplesplace #childcare #willagee #colours #exploration #paint

12.01.2022 School holiday day 3 - Tie Dying What a fabulous sunny day to use our creative skills and make some fabulous clothes. We loved tapping into our creative sides as the children enjoyed exploring a tie dying process. The kindy and some toddlers were very excited to show their t-shirts/tops to educators that they had brought from home. Through engaging in a mat session with educators Tanya and Sammi the children put their hypothesis skills into action. They explored the diff...erent patterns/effects that can be made through looking at examples and were taught about safety when tie dying. The children also engaged in tie dye saftey as we discussed the dangers and how they can be prevented. In open discussion educators advised keeping the spray bottle away from their bodies, eyes, ect and only to explore the tie dye on clothes. The children explored how tie dye is applied, which is through bottles, were able to apply colour to certain spaces and how the lackey bands create different effects. Tie dye time! With the children's new found knowledge of tie dye they were excited and ready to get the spray bottles and start creating their tie dye master pieces. First educators asked the children to pick a way that they would like to tie their top, as it will create a different effect. Educators then assisted the children in helping achieve their desired design as elastic bands were applied. Educator Sammi demonstrated and guided the children on how to apply their tie dye to their t-shirts as they used their fine motor skills and in which they confidently shared, happiness, humor and satisfaction when they saw their master pieces coming together. The children showed great team skills as they worked together choosing friends to help them to create their master pieces. After some hard concentration and application of colours and lots of creative thinking the children had finished their fabulous tie dye creations and engaged in celebration showing their master pieces to educators. Beautiful Work! #littlepeoplesplace #earlylearning #childcare #willagee #creativity #families #schoolholidays

12.01.2022 Children’s interests This morning educator Sammi noticed some of the children attempting to take the bikes up the stairs, she asked was it because they wanted them on the top level of the out door area and they responded no it was our bike track. Taking their cues, we then worked together to create our very own Bmx track using our large wooden blocks and a tyre. The children and Sammi used trial and error to create the track. We would adjust the track when we felt it wasn’t... safe and used resources to make sure it was safe enough for us to attempt. The children are so good at encouraging one another you can do it Harry I believe in you ! #trialanderror #safety #littlepeoplesplace #childcare #earlylearning #willagee

The artist then leaves their work for the next person who comes along to discover. This does mean the artist does not keep their art in a frame or to hang in an art gallery. Instead, to keep this memory, the artist captures the art in a photo. Our Little People Artist had the opportunity of exploring ephemeral art in a nature playground, and were aff...orded the opportunity to capture their memories with a camera on a tripod for balance; and later an iPad. The children explored nature, shapes, lines, curves, twisted leaves and branches, captured naturally occurring moss and much more as they explored. The children left their creations for other to discover as magical findings as they visited the park later. One of our children today shared how their mum went to see their art and found some at the park in the afternoon. The children also left the creations as they further understand that country belongs to itself, and as such, we leave country on country. The children explored their natural environments with curiosity and wonder, as well as investigating the functions of working technologies. Please enjoy some of the photos the children captured themselves using the camera.

03.01.2022 Exploring Our Senses Today all of our Toddler and Kindy room children were invited to explore their sensory capabilities and dispositions for learning through engaging in a large sensory bin. Educators prepared the bin with a range of dried materials such as split peas, lentils, black and kidney beans and even pasta that was died red. We added a range of animals as quite a few of the children have been showing interest in different types of animals and are able to identify and name quite a few of these. We then added some other interesting elements such as mirror balls, rocks and gemstones to this unique experience. #littlepeoplesplace #willagee #earlylearning #daycare #perthlife #family #sensoryplay #exploration #fun

02.01.2022 National Nutrition Week This week we have participated in National Nutrition Week, learning about a different vegetable each day: Monday - carrots Tuesday - beetroot Wednesday - broccoli ... Thursday - peas Friday - pumpkin. Each day our educators provided an educational experience incorporating creative arts, sensory play, mathematics or science. Following this, our wonderful cook Maria included the vegetable of the day in a meal. Educators continued to discuss this vegetable as we ate the meal, identifying the vegetable and what it looked, felt and tasted like. Thank you to Nourished Beginnings for supplying recipes and ideas for us to experiment with. See more
