21.01.2022 Are you aware that if you are not licensed for the machine you are operating? YOU ARE NOT INSURED. Let me explain this statement in a couple of ways Example 1 for employees: ... If you are operating a forklift, and a customer comes into your workplace with his new $50,000 BT50. If you hit the new BT50 while loading or unloading, and cause any damage. The insurance companies dont have to pay up as you are operating a machine illegally. I.e. unlicensed You are liable for the cost of the repairs! Every day unlicensed employees are jumping up on forklifts and order pickers to move or load product on racking and into very expensive cars/Utes. I know it feels good to help out but remember, youll have to pay for any damage done. There are serious fines out there at the moment. For example: Not having a licence $1250 fine Operating on an out-of-date forklift licence (yellow old type or paper) $1250 fine Not wearing a seat belt on a forklift $1250 fine Leaving the key in the ignition of the forklift $1250 fine * Not able to produce your licence when requested by an inspector $1250 fine Lifting someone on a pallet or bare forks $1250 fine Example 2 for persons of responsibility If you are an owner, manager or supervisor of a warehouse and allow your employees to operate a forklift. Workplace health and safety laws and the duty of care laws state that you are as stated above, a person of responsibility and therefore liable. If your employee is seriously injured or tragically killed, you are held responsible. You allowed him/her to operate a high risk machine without a licence. You would not allow a person to go to the shops in your car if they dont have a car licence. But every day you risk their lives and the lives of their families with non-compliance of Workplace Health and Safety licensing laws. E.g. Fines for persons of responsivity. (Individuals) Failure to comply with a safety duty for an individual that exposes a person to risk of death e.g. allowing a worker to operate high risk machine (forklift or order picker) Category 1 - Reckless conduct PCBU (Owner or manager) serious breach $300,000 Worker (supervisor/manager serious breach Category 2 - Exposing a person to a risk of serious injury or death PCBU (Owner or manager) serious breach $300,000 Worker (supervisor/manager serious breach $150,000 Category 3 Offences not as serious as category 1 and 2 The maximum penalties are: $50,000 for an individual; $100,000 for a PCBU or an officer of a PCBU; and $500,000 for a body corporate.

12.01.2022 Be aware everyone. The Government are sending out over 1000 letters to operators that received their licences from dodgy assessors. Remember, if you got your forklift too easy. You can expect a letter telling you to arrange a re-sit under the watchful eye of an QWHS inspector. If a deal like a two day course to obtain your HIGH RISK licence seems too good to be true, IT PROBABLY IS..

03.01.2022 Just be aware, when booking a forklift course. If it seems to be too good to be true (cheap) It probably is. At the moment there is over 1000 letters from QWHS being sent to forklift licence holders, telling them to resit their assessment because of dodgy RTOs. If you got your forklift licence from the "too good to be true" RTO. keep an eye on the postman.
