11.01.2022 The Lower Clarence Scottish Association is proud to announce that Glenn Brown, one of the world’s premier pipers, will be visiting Maclean for the 2020 Maclean Highland Gathering. We would like to acknowledge the generous sponsorship of Mr Barry Ryan and the Maclean Services Club that supports this undertaking, together with the assistance provided by Andrew & Amy Roach. The recital will be held at the Maclean Services Club 36-38 River Street, Maclean from 7.45 pm on Saturday... 11th April 2020. The event is free and no bookings are required. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to hear one of the world’s best in person. Glenn Brown is a native of Milton, Ontario, Canada. He began playing at the age of nine, and piping is in his blood as he was originally taught by his mother, Gail Brown, whom he still lists as one of his favourite pipers. One of Glenn’s biggest role models is Willie McCallum, from whom he has been taking lessons since 2001. He has also received instruction from Michael Grey and Bill Livingstone. Glenn is a prolific prize winner on the solo circuit. Some of his many prizes in Pìobaireachd are the Canadian Gold Medal, The Dunvegan Medal and The Northern Meeting Gold Medal. In Light Music, Glenn has won the A Grade Marches at the Argyllshire Gathering and the A Grade MSR at London. Glenn has also been heavily involved in the pipe band world as the Pipe Sergeant of Shotts and Dykehead Caledonia. Over a very successful career with Shotts he has won three World Pipe Band Championships. In 2017 Glenn placed 4th in the Clasp at the Northern Meeting, 2nd in the Masters Pìobaireachd and 1st in the Senior Pìobaireachd at the Argyllshire Gathering in Oban. In 2018 Glenn won the Bratach Gorm in London and in 2019, Glenn took first place in the Piobaireachd at the Glenfiddich Championship.

07.01.2022 Each year the Lower Clarence Scottish Association, generously supported financially by the Clarence Valley Council, awards three scholarships to Clarence Valley residents, to assist them in developing their Scottish cultural pursuits. Scholarships are awarded for Highland Dancing, Piping and Drumming. In 2020, with no Gathering able to be held due to COVID-19, it looked like we wouldn't be able to make these annual awards but Clarence Valley Council stepped forward to make su...re it was able to happen. Two pipers, Connor Lothian and Luke Moloney, and two dancers, Lara Forwell and Leah Jenkins, were the worthy recipients of the 2020 Clarence Valley Council Scholarship Awards. Leah, Lara and Luke will all be competing at this years Gathering and Connor recently attended his first full band practice, playing a few tunes with the band members. At the Lower Clarence Scottish Association this is our core aim and the reason we exist, to foster the Scottish culture in our local area and beyond and we wish all the Scholarship winners from 2021 all the best of luck with their future endeavours. The Local Scholarships will be offered again in 2021 with winners chosen from those competing this coming Friday and Saturday at the 116th Maclean Highland Gathering. We would again like to thank Clarence Valley Council for their support, and particularly recognise, Alicia Savelloni and her team for all they have done to support us.

05.01.2022 Please read below the advice below from NSW Health. The key sentence from our point of view is this: NSW has been mirroring the Queensland Health restrictions for anyone in NSW who has been to Greater Brisbane since 20 March, and these people will also no longer be required to stay at home from this time (1pm local time).... So that means that anyone looking to come from the Greater Brisbane or Moreton Bay area should now be OK to come and spend Easter in Maclean for the 116th Maclean Highland Gathering. https://www.facebook.com/NewSouthWalesHealth/posts/1555043288028340 However, please do not come to Maclean: 1. if you feel ill with any flu or COVID like symptoms 2. if you have been at one of the hotspots listed on the Qld Health or NSW Health page at the times detailed Also, we suggest you transit through the shires of Tweed, Byron, Ballina and Lismore without stopping to minimise the any risk of transmission from those areas. When you arrive, please maintain good hand hygiene, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water, use sanitiser and bring your own if you can, sanitise your instrument and do not share them, minimise social contact and maintain appropriate social distancing (1.5 metres). We love the opportunity to have you all here but we want to make sure that we send everyone hope safe, happy and healthy.

04.01.2022 Any competitors or visitors intending to visit Maclean for the 116th Maclean Highland Gathering from Brisbane City or Moreton Shires, or who have stayed in these areas at the appropriate times (please check the information), will need to complete this form before entering NSW according to information on the NSW Government website. https://www.service.nsw.gov.au//complete-nsw-entry-declara Additional advice is available here:... https://www.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/latest-news-and-updates
