We hope you spent a good time amongst our friendly club members It was such a fun night and the food was absolutely delicious, the portions were very generous too, big thanks to our new chef GeorgeThe average price for the main meal with salads was $20 and the most expensive was Crispy Pork Hock $30 (Baked marinated pork hock served with chips or potatoes, green salad, beetroot salad, sauerkraut and English mustard). 09.01.2022 Dear Club Members and Friends, After many months of the Club closure due to COVID-19, the Sikorski Club is preparing to reopen in mid August and exciting news is that our Bistro has a new chef, Jurek Bieganski! Georges Kitchen has been a well known for many years in Perth offering delicious Polish food as well as many international and local dishes. This weekend many Committee Members and Volunteers took part in a big clean up of the kitchen and dining area after some necessary renovations. We are all looking forward to welcoming our patrons back at the Club and George is preparing an exciting menu with delicious dishes served at the Georges Kitchen. More details regarding the reopening will be posted in due course.

06.01.2022 BREAKING NEWS Phase 4 will commence this Saturday 27 June. As part of Phase 4, from Saturday, the following changes will occur:... All existing gathering limits and the 100/300 rule will be removed. Gathering limits will only be determined by WAs reduced 2sqm capacity rule; The 2sqm rule will include staff only at venues that hold more than 500 patrons; Removal of seated service requirements at food businesses and licensed premises, meaning Western Australians can once again enjoy a beer while standing at a pub or bar; No requirement to maintain patron register at food businesses and licensed premises; All events will be permitted except for large scale, multi-stage music festivals; Unseated performances will be permitted at venues such as concert halls, live music venues, bars and pubs; Gyms can operate unstaffed, but regular cleaning must be maintained; and The casino gaming floor reopening under agreed temporary restrictions. For WAs major sport and entertainment venues, a 50% capacity rule will apply. Therefore, under Phase 4 the temporary capacity of Optus Stadium will be 30,633 for sport events (35,000 for concerts), HBF Park can hold 10,150 (16,500 for concerts), RAC Arena can hold 7,150 (8,250 for concerts).

05.01.2022 Umbrella Golden Aged Club ( Social Support Program) commenced a series of concerts in the Perth’s parks. This week, clients were invited to listen to classical ...music performed by Jay Weston at the Stage in Hyde Park. Today was the first concert, and it was a huge success. Members of the public joined Umbrella and enjoyed the show with the clients. Our staff also received lots of compliments mostly admiring Umbrella’s innovative approach to providing social activities to seniors. 02.01.2022 Day of the Divine Mother of Herbs 15 August The celebrations of the day of the Divine Mother of Herbs start with a church mass. People bring bouquets or wreath...s (that detail varies from region to region) made of summer herbs and flowers as well as fresh crops to get them blessed in the church. In some regions the women are weaving in whole branches of fruit trees or berry shrubs, very often with the fruits still hanging from them. According to ethnographers these blessings bear clear traces to old-Slavic offerings. There are many of such remnants in the Polish culture. A similar example where the pre-Christian food offerings survived in a process of syncretism is the well-known wiconka food baskets brought to churches for Easter across Poland, and a related custom is observed also during the celebrations of Green Week and Corpus Christi when the spring herbs and flowers are blessed. After the day of Divine Mother of Herbs, the crops are blessed also during the celebrations of doynki (the harvest festival mentioned above). Its worth mentioning here that some old sources point out that in the past the day of the Divine Mother of Herbs was also called Divine Mother of Doynki (Matka Boska Doynkowa, por. etnomuzeum.eu), and those two names for the ceremony of the summer blessing of the crops have most likely one common root (a pre-Christian harvest festivity). Contrary to the fixed day of Divine Mother of Herbs, doynki is a moveable feast, organized simply when the all the crops are already collected from the fields. In some regions of Poland its the day of the Divine Mother of Herbs when the first doynki feast is also organized. Herbs and flowers play a great role in the Polish countryside and were widely used in the folk medicine and magick. There are many herbs and flowers considered powerful. Polish folklore determined very precisely how to prepare the plants for a later use when to collect them and more importantly, when to bless them before using. The day of the Divine Mother of Herbs was crucial for that. Its precisely the reason why the Polish women were preparing the herbs and flowers for the blessings. Plants were often getting various traits and personalities in the Polish folklore, and many people from the countryside still believe that the plants they grow are feeling and understanding the surroundings. Many Polish grandmothers are still continuing and old custom of thanking the herbs during the process of cutting and drying. Some herbs have specific ritual names in the Polish folklore used during the preparations of the bouquets and wreaths the women weave in for example the Holy Mothers braids or the Holy Mothers tears for the day of Divine Mother of Herbs. At the end of the holy mass the priests were blessing also carts or tables with crops and meals which were often waiting outside the churches. After that the people were sharing small homemade traits, and then feasting in their households and visiting neighbours for the rest of that day.
