18.01.2022 Ethical consumption and being more conscious about what we purchase is becoming increasingly important. Seemingly small decisions, like where we buy our clothes, can end up having a significant impact. Take some time to do some research about what you purchase - the planet will thank you for it!

17.01.2022 - Sustainable Salons - I recently tried out a new hairdresser, and discovered that they were a part of the Sustainable Salons movement! After doing some research, I was amazed at just how much was being done. Since 2015, @sustainablesalonsanz has rescued valuable salon resources from landfill and found repurposing solutions for them. Among many other things, sustainable salons: - Turn plastic waste into new furniture, product packaging and landscape supplies... - Sell foil, colour tubes and unwanted tools to recycling - where all proceeds go to OzHarvest and KiwiHarvest - Collect hair clippings to be made into Hair Booms or compost - Donate ponytails to charitable organisations to create wigs - Recycle and neutralise excess chemicals to be used as recycled water for roadworks and construction With 908 salons (and counting) already participating throughout Australia and New Zealand, this movement is not only protecting the planet, but feeding the hungry and growing local communities. If you’re looking to book your next salon appointment, I’d encourage you to try out a sustainable salon! Find more information about the movement here: @sustainablesalonsanz See more

13.01.2022 The only way to change the fashion industry is to question it, challenge it, and support those trying to make a difference.

13.01.2022 - 100 YEARS OF FASHION - With the ever-changing nature of fashion, looking back through the decades can give us some idea of how we got where we are today! Over the next few weeks, I'll be delving into the last 100 years of fashion; from the flapper dresses to the double denim and everything in between. The 1920s ... The end of WWI had a huge impact on society, culture and in turn, fashion. 1920s fashion was all about comfort, convenience and style. Gone were the days of formality and multiple layers. Straight and flat silhouettes became popular. Hemlines were rising, and waistlines were dropping. The classic flapper girl wore a short shapeless shift dress with short sleek hair, accessorised with beaded bags, feather boas, embellished head bands and pearls, as promoted by Coco Chanel. Low-waisted dresses with fullness at the hemline allowed women to kick up their heels and dance. Men also abandoned their highly formal clothing. They began to favour short suit jackets rather than jackets with long tailcoats, ditching the multiple layers and waistcoats. Wide legged 'Oxford bags' trousers and short legged 'plus fours' trousers also became popular, with fedora hats also making an appearance. See more

07.01.2022 - UPCYCLE DIY - How cute are these wine corks turned into mini planters! All you'll need is: Wine corks ... A pen A small, sharp knife A flathead screwdriver Mini succulent plants Soil Start by drawing a circle on the top of your cork, leaving a 3mm perimeter. Carefully cut into, and carve out the cork following your outline, cutting in approximately 2.5cm. Use your flat-head screwdriver to continue hollowing out the inside of the cork using a twisting motion. Scoop a small amount of soil into your hollowed out wine cork, leaving room for your plant. Finally, pop your plant in and cover the roots with a little more soil. Place your new wine cork succulents where they’ll get plenty of sun, and water them once in a while when the soil feels moist. Happy upcycling! See more

04.01.2022 - 100 YEARS OF FASHION - The 1930s With the golden era of cinema beginning in the 1930s, fashion of the time was greatly influenced by old Hollywood glamour. The feminine silhouette reappeared, with slender, elongated torsos and softly waved short hair becoming fashionable. Natural shape was accentuated with belts and defined dresses, with bold accessories being replaced with bold patterns; floral, plaid, dots, animal and other abstract prints.... Menswear also saw a shift of focus to the movies for fashion inspiration. Menswear became less formal, with suits still worn for formal occasions and work, but casual wear such as knitted sweaters and soft-collared shirts becoming increasingly popular. See more

02.01.2022 Some great words to get you thinking about the way we produce and consume things. When you throw something 'away', it always has to go somewhere. Make sure that somewhere is eco-friendly. Don't let your rubbish add to the 5 trillion pieces of plastic debris already in our oceans.
