17.01.2022 A special tribute to (1923-2008) ... As you have seen over the last couple of days, a framed Tribute was presented by The Mayor, Greg Williamson on behalf of the Mackay Regional Council to the Mackay Turf Club on Derby Day 19th September 2020 to remember the racing legend George Moore OBE. Despite his simple beginnings of delivering the Daily Mercury on horse back in and around Mackay as a 13 yr old, he ...went on to become a renowned Jockey and later a Trainer here in Australia and internationally, making his mark in the history pages of horse racing world wide. Numerous tributes have been made over the years, including the naming of a park in Gunsynd Street, Ooralea, Mackay in his honour. Now, thanks to community members, Paul & Lyn Maguire (Paul, a local horse breeder and former member of the Mackay Turf Club Committee, who campaigned for the tribute), Jean & Malcolm Turvey (Jean researched the family history for the Moores) and Terry Hayes, this Tribute to George Moore OBE by Mackay Council will have its pride of place at the Mackay Turf Club and will be located in the entrance foyer of the Event Centre. 10.01.2022 ... Are you or do you know of anyone who might be interested in these positions with our Club?? We are looking for and to join our progressive Club at Ooralea Racecourse, Mackay.... As a , you will be required to have experience in handling horses as the position entails loading horses into the racing barriers at the start of each race. Our Club races around 25 times a year with a mix of mid-week afternoon and Saturday races. Race dates can be found on our website at https://www.mackayturfclub.com.au/race-calendar/. As part of a vital team, you will need to be able to easily follow directions and work well with others. We are also looking for a couple of to work on a FULL TIME basis to help maintain the grounds which will include mowing, whipper-snipping, general maintenance work and some cleaning. In addition, the work will entail maintenance and cleaning of horse stables and the horse pool so it can be a physically demanding but rewarding position. All successful applicants would need to be able to pass random Drug & Alcohol Testing. With COVID restrictions and attendance limits, we require all 100 Club Members, MTC Members, Owners, Trainers and Jockeys to pre-register to secure entry to Member’s Areas at Race Days, even if your entry is complimentary. We now have an online form for registering your attendance at any of our Feature Race Days. Registration is not required for mid-week races.... 100 Club Members and MTC Members also receive special member pricing on tickets for areas/packages outside the Member’s area.
