23.01.2022 WalkWest is a fun-run (or walk) to support our local hospitals in Melbourne’s west, held on March 22 and starting just around the corner from our parkrun in Footscray Park, Maribyrnong. Participants can choose to walk or run 2, 5 or 10km. If you're interested, go to https://www.walkwest.com.au/ or https://www.facebook.com/whf.walkwest/ for more information.

23.01.2022 We are now confirming that all parkrun events across the world will be suspended throughout the month of May. Read our latest weekly update http://parkrun.me/...sf574 #loveparkrun

22.01.2022 We ask that all volunteers and participants check in for contact tracing each week - by scanning the QR code on display at the event or by scanning the QR code in this post (it's the same code). You can do this before, during or after the event. In most cases you should be able to open the camera app on your phone, point your phone at the QR code and it'll automatically scan the QR code and pop up a link to kick off the check in process. If you have any issues with this then alternatively you can use the Service Victoria app and enter location code B7G 8Z7.

21.01.2022 If you've ever wondered exactly what 251 people starting a parkrun event at Maribyrnong looks like, your question has been answered :) Video thanks to Rene Helfenstein - thanks Rene!

You can check out the current roster as any time here: https://www.parkrun.com.au//www./maribyrnong/futureroster/

16.01.2022 With our reopening this Saturday (January 16) under the current COVID-19 conditions there'll be a few changes from our routine for previous events. Please take a moment to familiarise yourself with the codes of conduct in this post (there's one for walkers and runners and one for volunteers), so that our events can be successful and we can keep everybody safe. If you have any questions about any of this, please comment on this post, send us a Facebook message or email us at [email protected].

16.01.2022 Tomorrow is Run Down Under's 'parkrundownunderday', so if you're a Run Down Under member, don't forget to wear Run Down Under gear and get in a photo with other members (for every person pictured at a parkrun around the country, $1 will be donated to parkrun towards purchasing a life saving defibrillator).

12.01.2022 We've added a new role to our regular volunteer roster - "lead bike". The role of the lead bike volunteer is to cycle the course ahead of the first participant to provide directions and ensure the public along the route are informed of incoming participants. This is particularly important as our attendance numbers continue to grow and our course is on paths shared with other park users. As always: - if you're able to help out, please email us at [email protected] (or s...end us a Facebook message) - you can always find the current volunteer roster here: https://www.parkrun.com.au/maribyrnong/futureroster/ See more

12.01.2022 Following the Victorian Government announcement on 12 February 2021, all parkrun events are cancelled for February 13, 2021, and junior parkrun events for 14 February 2021. Please respect the lockdown restrictions, safety comes first.

11.01.2022 Here's the latest weekly update from Tom Williams, parkrun Chief Operating Officer We can now confirm that parkrun events across the world will be suspended u...ntil at least the end of June. We are getting through this, together. http://parkrun.me/vwft7 #loveparkrun

11.01.2022 Tomorrow is our 6th anniversary at Maribyrnong parkrun! We're unfortunately not going to be spending it the way we normally spend our anniversaries, but we don't want the day to pass unnoticed. In keeping with our traditional anniversary celebrations, here are some awards recognising some of our very special people from our 6th year at Maribyrnong:... Most Volunteering (Event Team) Brian Anderson (19 events) Most Volunteering (Non-Event Team) Ian Newey (11 events) Most Participation Heather Cole, Melissa Hardiman & Chris Laing (27 events) Most PBs Carl Breitkreuz (12 PBs) And some more stats from our 6th year: - 30 events - 44,680 kms run/walked - average attendance: 298 - highest attendance: 443 (29/02/2020) - lowest attendance: 200 (28/12/2020) (not)parkruns In the absence of parkrun events (not)parkrun is an opportunity for parkrunners to submit a 5k walk, jog, or run, on a route of your choosing, on a day and time of your choice, wherever you are in the world and following appropriate guidelines for physical activity wherever you’re based. You can record up to one activity per day, with your fastest time each week included in a weekly results table. Maribyrnong parkrunners put us in the top 10 in Australia last week for (not)parkruns! For more information on (not)parkrun, there are FAQs here: https://support.parkrun.com//360009843618--not-parkrun-FAQs Stay safe and we hope to see everyone back at parkrun when the time is right! The Maribyrnong parkrun Event Team

10.01.2022 What a beautiful morning for our 290th parkrun at Maribyrnong! We had our second highest turn out, with 384 parkrunners, joggers and walkers making the most of the glorious conditions.Thank you so much to the awesome team of volunteers who made today's event run so smoothly!

10.01.2022 Maribyrnong parkrun will be holding an event as normal tomorrow (March 14), however please see below (and the link) for the latest update on the COVID-19 implications for parkrun. parkrun's overall strategic position - which Maribyrnong parkrun will follow - is that where specifically recommended or required by health organisations, governments, or landowners, events will be cancelled. This includes where events may not quite reach the full criteria, such as where gatherings ...of over 1,000 people are banned; in this situation all events in that region will be cancelled regardless of event size. The recommendations released by the Australian government this afternoon apply to static gatherings of up to 2 hours and do not apply to tomorrow's parkrun event, so the event will be proceeding as normal. We're expecting a larger-than-usual attendance - as Albert (Melbourne) and Parkville parkruns have cancelled (for reasons unrelated to COVID-19) - so we would like an additional barcode scanner volunteer (ideally 2). If you can help out, please comment on this post, send us a Facebook message or email us at [email protected].

06.01.2022 A reminder that our Maribyrnong parkrun events take place on shared public paths - parkrunners don't have right of way and we need to share the paths with other park users including walkers, runners and cyclists. This is particularly important in the first 1 km or so when we have a large group of runners bunched up together, and especially so near the 'pinch point' where the path narrows. We recently had an incident where a Maribyrnong parkrunner was reported to have told ano...ther park user to 'get out of the way!'. This isn't acceptable and we don't like to see incidents such as this as they reflect poorly on parkrun (even though the vast majority of the time parkrunners do exactly the right thing). Please remember to: - keep left where possible - look and listen for other park users (including behind you) - share, share, share :) (and don't forget your printed barcode!)

04.01.2022 After being the Event Director for Maribyrnong parkrun for 6 years, Michael Hough has passed the Event Director torch to another couple of long-time Maribyrnong parkrunners - Stuart Hilton and Chris Wootton. Michael was the founding Event Director for Maribyrnong parkrun (back in 2014) - in addition to being Event Director he was Run Director for the first 11 events and he's been Run Director, volunteered at and run and walked many many events since. Michael's not leaving us ...- we'll still see him at Maribyrnong from time to time, including as Run Director :) A huge thankyou goes to Michael for everything he's done (and continues to do) for Maribyrnong parkrun!

04.01.2022 The latest COVID-19 update (the key part is "all parkrun events will now continue to be suspended until at least the end of April"):

04.01.2022 This week 443 people were leaping at the chance to run, jog and walk the course today. With 61 being first timers and 90 recording new Personal Bests. Representatives of 24 different clubs took part. The event was made possible by 11 volunteers: Melissa HARDIMAN Lisa GUNN Stuart HILTON Brian ANDERSON Chris RAYMENT Peter ALLAN Craig RAWSON Jill ALLAN Dave KRUSE Wilson NG Kaan CALDER... The male record has now been reclaimed by Liam ADAMS who recorded a time of 14:13 today A big thanks also goes to those who helped sort finish tokens at the Boathouse - Brian Anderson, Chris Rayment, David Gunn, Ian Newey and Sonia Baldock.

04.01.2022 EXCITING NEWS! We’re celebrating International Women’s Day at parkruns around the world on Saturday 7 March Bring along a female friend, colleague or famil...y member and walk, jog, run or volunteer together for #IWDparkrun http://parkrun.me/wq6nx #loveparkrun

03.01.2022 A reminder that tomorrow's (March 21) Maribyrnong parkrun event is *cancelled*. It is incredibly important that we do not go to our course tomorrow: a) Because it's not the right thing to do for people's health. b) Because it will look like the parkrun family doesn't care about everyone's health.... If you'd like to understand more around the parkrun decision making with regard to COVID-19 (Coronavirus) please listen to the Free Weekly Timed podcast ( http://parkrun.me/zebry ).
