25.01.2022 #BREAKING: A COVID-19 case has been recorded in the NT.

25.01.2022 This daily infographic provides a quick view of the current coronavirus (#COVID19) situation in Australia. Visit: www.health.gov.au//public/coronavirus-covid-19-at-a-glance

23.01.2022 Hi everyone - I just wanted to go over where we are at with coronavirus right now, and what the next steps are. As you can see, we are the safest, the freest, t...he best in Australia. And that’s because of you your sacrifice, and your hard work. You’ve done the right thing to stay safe and keep others safe thank you. It’s also because of our hard borders. Acting early to secure our borders helped keep coronavirus out, and saved Territory lives. On the weekend we ticked another box on our road to recovery successfully going into the third and final stage of easing restrictions. We’ve done this before anywhere else in Australia. From Monday next week, we will make another change moving from mandatory hotel quarantine to mandatory self-quarantine. This is important because it brings more Territorians home, but it will also help give us the confidence that we can safely ease our border restrictions down the track once it is safe to do so. By the end of next week, we will start making weekly assessments on when our border restrictions will be eased. The most important thing we are looking at is the rate of coronavirus transmission in the south. We already know we are safe in the Territory we just have to be certain that everywhere else is safe too. They aren’t at our level yet, but they are doing better and better every day. It gives me a lot of confidence that we can welcome other Australians back to the Territory sooner rather than later. When a decision on the borders is made, there will be 30 days’ notice given. That’s so businesses have time to prepare for more visitors, police can transition to a new operational footing, and our health system is ready to deal with developments. It’s so important that we don’t rush this. Just like every other big decision we’ve made, I want to do this once and do it right. It’s important to remember that when we do change our border arrangements, it is not a free-for-all in the Territory. In fact, it will just make it more important that we do the simple things to stay safe. That means: - Practicing social distancing - Washing your hands - Staying at home if you’re sick, and getting tested. You’ve done a bloody amazing job so far. No one is perfect, and we aren’t asking for that we all just need to stay smart and stay safe. Basically, keep doing what you’re doing. We’ve all got a long road ahead of us, but we are on the right track. So let’s stick together, and see this through. And I can promise you, I’ll keep doing whatever it takes to keep you and your family safe.

22.01.2022 ROADMAP TO THE NEW NORMAL Stage 3 started on Friday June 5. Because the Territory is the safest place in the nation, we can adjust restrictions in a staged and ...steady process while still keeping Territorians safe. In stage three you now can: Operate and attend all licensed gaming activities including a TAB Resume officiating, participating and supporting the playing of team sports such as football, basketball, soccer and netball Attend any cinema or theatre, concert hall, music hall, dance hall, nightclub or any other similar entertainment venue in approved configuration Attend an amusement venue Attend a bar without food being consumed Operate and access all previously restricted services at a place that provides beauty therapy and/or cosmetic services including facial care Operate and access all previously restricted services at a place that provides tattooing or body art such as branding and piercing Attend an amusement park, community centre, recreation centre or play centre Attend an arena, stadium, sporting facility including community and sporting competitions with spectators in approved seating configuration. However, if above 500 people the event requires a separately approved COVID-19 Safety Plan All businesses, facilities and services previously restricted can now resume ensuring adherence to key principles Businesses, facilities, organisations and service providers should make sure they complete the COVID-19 Safety Plan Checklist at https://coronavirus.nt.gov.au/roadmap-new-normal/business As we return to the activities that make our Territory lifestyle great, we must remember to: Follow physical distancing principles Practice good hygiene Stay at home if you are feeling unwell Remember we need to work together as a community to keep the NT safe.

22.01.2022 Biosecurity Zones will be lifted on 5 June. It’s a decision that I’ve made in consultation with our Land Councils, Traditional Owners, Custodians and Elders. ...I’ve been working with Minister Ken Wyatt and the Australian Government to ensure all Territorians have a clear pathway to our new normal and I thank them for their work. We can lift our Biosecurity Zones safely because of our strict border controls. It’s been weeks since we’ve had a new case, and Territorians are doing the right thing. I know it hasn’t been easy, but soon, Territorians will be able to move freely between communities and come into town and return home again without having to quarantine. The Queensland, WA and South Australian borders will stay closed, and physical distancing and hygiene protocols will still apply. Thank you for your patience, and for the sacrifices you have made to keep your communities safe.

22.01.2022 DARWIN MAN TESTS POSITIVE: A Darwin man has tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) after returning from Melbourne. The man arrived on a flight from Melbour...ne today. In accordance with national medical guidelines, the Centre for Disease Control has carried out contact tracing for this flight and all close contacts have now been notified and are in mandatory supervised quarantine at Howard Springs Quarantine Facility. The man is now under the care of Top End Health Service. All 33 cases of COVID-19 in the Northern Territory are related to international or interstate travel, with no cases of community transmission.

21.01.2022 Good news! Elsey NP is re-opening!

20.01.2022 PLEASE NOTE: Self-quarantining MUST be in one of the listed places.

19.01.2022 NT HAS ZERO ACTIVE CASES OF CORONAVIRUS

18.01.2022 I want to make it clear for our Territorians living on remote communities and inside biosecurity zones that adjusting our restrictions so we are safe, but lif...e is more normal, is for you too. This includes the lifting of restrictions from today on outdoor weddings and funerals; on playgrounds and parks; on swimming pools and being able to fish with mates. I know that grieving normally for our lost loved ones especially is really important and it is something I have wanted to help you with for a long time. The one thing I cannot lift for you right now is the biosecurity zones we currently have in place. Many people living on remote communities asked for border protections, to ensure their communities were kept safe. The biosecurity zones were created and are controlled by the Federal Government - and they are due to lift on June 18. The decision on whether to lift those controls will ultimately be made in partnership with the Federal Government, Land Councils and communities and based on health advice. We will all listen to you. Some of our most vulnerable people live in the most remote parts of our country. You want to be safe, and you want your loved ones to be safe as much as we want you to be safe. And we have shown we will do whatever it takes to keep you safe. The challenge that our remote residents have faced cannot be underestimated and what an extraordinary job they have done. Thank you for what you’ve done to keep your people safe. Land Councils are working around the clock. Workers have stayed in community. And Elders are leading by example. As we consider the next steps, I promise you that alongside your Land Councils, you will be in the driver’s seat. We will listen to you. #territorytogether

18.01.2022 It’s #NationalRoadSafetyWeek2020 (15-22nd November). We take road safety seriously and our officers are out actively patrolling to keep you the community safe. The community can help us by remembering to drive to the conditions of the road you are on, watch the speed limit, give drivers enough space and don’t drink alcohol/take illicit drugs and drive. Please be aware of your surroundings whilst driving.... Join us and show your support to keeping our #NT roads safe - www.roadsafetyweek.com.au/get-involved #NationalRoadSafetyWeek2020 https://roadsafetyweek.com.au/get-involved

17.01.2022 While some parks will open, Elsey National Park is NOT included. https://dtsc.nt.gov.au/covid-/parks-and-reserves-whats-open

13.01.2022 Did you know you can report non-urgent matters online? Please see the link below https://pfes.nt.gov.au/reportonline...

12.01.2022 As you would’ve no doubt by now seen in the media, Mataranka is now an excluded area. This means you may travel to Katherine. We’d like to remind you that travel should be for essential reasons only. The biosecurity checkpoint remains at the Central Arnhem Road turnoff and the Police may still question your reasons for travel. Unnecessary travel and reckless behaviour puts all of us at risk, so be sensible and stay home if you can. There is now a new biosecurity checkpoint o...n the Roper Highway. If you reside in Jilkminggan, make your way home now, otherwise you may not be able to return without a 14 day quarantine period unless you have an exemption or meet the essential service criteria. Please direct all your travel enquiries to the Remote Travel Hotline. https://coronavirus.nt.gov.au/co/remote-communities/travel

09.01.2022 Do you have family visiting from interstate when the borders re-open? If so, please note below

07.01.2022 Thank you all for participating in an unusual, but lovely Dawn Service Photo: Toni Kutschki

05.01.2022 Hi all, It’s been a reasonably quiet week for this page. That’s a good thing! We’d rather not be reporting growing cases of Coronavirus! The NT is doing remarkably well, with no cases confirmed this week and that’s a great indication that our strict border and biosecurity controls coupled with people doing the right thing is working. For information, the Biosecurity Check Point (BCP) is still operational on the Roper Highway, in addition to the one at the Central Arnhem Road... intersection and will remain in place for the foreseeable future at this stage. Keep practising social distancing, keep washing your hands, keep travel to a minimum and keep people safe. Mataranka and the surrounding communities seem to have settled into this unusual new way of life and are doing a wonderful job. Thank you, and keep it up. We all hope to be out of this mess sooner rather than later

05.01.2022 ANZAC DAY This year, the ANZAC Day ceremony will look a little bit different due to COVID-19 restrictions. Mataranka Police and the FERG will be meeting at 5:45am on Saturday 25 April at the Banyan Tree and will lay a wreath on behalf of everybody. ... From there, our vehicles will slowly drive through all the streets of Mataranka with their flashing lights on. We encourage you all to line the streets at your driveways to join us to remember the sacrifices of our fallen, retired and current serving war men and women If anybody would like us to place a wreath on your behalf, please let the Police Station know and we can arrange to collect it from you the day before

03.01.2022 A tragic event for Mataranka. Thank you to our fantastic nurses, members of the public and the wonderful Careflight staff.

03.01.2022 This post is a day late because I too, am enjoying Stage 3 of the easing restrictions We hope you have a great long weekend. Stay safe and remember to continue with social distancing and practice good hygiene

03.01.2022 Northern Territory Police are currently recruiting local Indigenous people to become Aboriginal Community Police Officers (ACPO). ACPO’s are uniformed sworn pol...ice officers who provide communication and liaison with local Indigenous communities. They enforce the laws of the Northern Territory and protect and serve our community. ACPOs perform a vital role within our police force as they are both role models to our community and also, advocates for cross cultural-awareness across the agency. As an ACPO, there are many opportunities for future development including study, qualifications, service in remote localities and community engagement. If you know someone who would be a great role model to the community and wants to become an ACPO, please encourage them to apply. This is their opportunity to make a difference and to improve community knowledge about policing service and law and order issues in the Northern Territory.

01.01.2022 Locally, the Mataranka Homestead and the Territory Manor will re-open with these restrictions from midday today. The Mataranka Hotel remains CLOSED and the existing takeaway liquor laws remain in place for ALL licenced premises. Please do the right thing. We are the luckiest place in the country at the moment and we wish to continue moving forward with the easing of restrictions. Enjoy the weekend, but be sensible, be understanding and respectful to staff at licenced premises and continue with your social distancing and hygiene practices
