17.01.2022 EXCUSES Excuses are justifications we make to ourselves about people, events and circumstances. They are invented reasons we create to defend our behaviour to delay taking action or simply as a means of avoiding responsibility. Unfortunately for us in the fitness industry it is extremely easy for people to make excuses when it comes to their health simply because their excuses outweigh the rewards!... > Its too early > I just don’t have the time > I’m too tired > It’s too hard Plus the many more we hear! So when it comes to your health and fitness how do we stop the excuses that hinder us from becoming the best version of ourselves?? The hardest part is adherence and staying true to your objective whether that be to get stronger, drop a couple dress sizes or simply to move better. A few key points that I use to keep myself dedicated and committed include; Setting a specific, measurable goal that is realistic. Write down steps in which I need to achieve my desired outcome. Set non negotiable daily actions that override any negative excuses I may have at the time. At ION we will make sure you adhere to your fitness goals, keep you accountable to yourself and help alleviate any negative excuses you find yourself using! 12.01.2022 KEY TO CUEING There are 4 types of cueing that I use when it comes to correcting or emphasising a members exercise or movement. Every member is different when it comes to interpreting and understanding cues so it is important to choose the right words at the right time so that it ‘clicks’ without ‘over explaining’ or ‘over coaching’.... INTERNAL CUE Directs the members attention to their own body movements. Squeeze your glutes EXTERNAL CUE Directs the members attention away from the body and towards the affect of the movement on the surroundings. Spread the floor ANALOGY CUE Focuses the members attention to visualise the exercise on a different level. Imagine standing in a door way, drive out against the door frame PHYSICAL CUE A touch or physical adjustment of an area of the body that needs correcting. Hand on the mid back to signify and correct a flexed spine It is important when cuing that we; Say the most with the least. Use language that is memorable/emotional to the client. Choose your words wisely. 10.01.2022 THE STRUGGLE When lifting weights, most of us would have experienced the struggle of the final rep or 2! Often the way we approach this can determine how intense and successful our training session is.... Do you choose to tap out when it gets a little hard? Or do you grit your teeth and give it all you have to get the reps out you are chasing? The ability to put in the effort in the later stage of a lift while working in a safe manner is paramount to growth and the exertion of our muscles to then elicit the changes and adaptions we are after. Depending on our goals in the gym, generally if we are lifting weights we are trying to build muscle, gain strength and create some sort of change within our body. In order to do so we must get comfortable being uncomfortable and test our body through a range of different movements and exercises under a challenging load. We have been preparing for this moment for the last week and we are ready to take you all online, stay tuned as we announce more information today. ... Our team of trainers will be hosting live workouts at 7:00am AEST which you can do from home with no equipment. You will still get a comprehensive workout and we will not be giving up our quality of coaching or structured programming, we’ll just be adapting for the times ahead. In addition to this, all clients who are currently receiving Personal Training will still have full access to their dedicated trainer via online conferencing of their choice (e.g. Zoom & FaceTime). If you require financial relief, we will apply it immediately. Group training members are all invited to join in our training in the morning, if you miss it or you’re a nighttime training person, we will upload all workouts by 10:00am on the same day for you to watch later. Exercise Physiology clients will be given priority service by Sam who will personally checkin with you via video conferencing to ensure you are looked after during this lockout period. Any corporate training accounts we manage will be suspended immediately and we will be in contact to offer you and your entire workforce an online training option via dedicated live streams.
