22.01.2022 Home Based Learning Term 2 Hello MFG students We hope you had a relaxing break and are ready for learning again.... This term you will be learning from home using a variety of on-line tools, but we have asked your teachers to use Compass as the main platform. What will Home Based Learning look like for me? You will use your regular school timetable and access your learning via Compass You can find out what to do by looking at the Lesson Plan feature in Compass where your teacher will outline the lesson focus and other information You can use the Resource tab for your class to access resources and content. Your teachers will direct you to these resources. You will be directed to complete designated Learning Tasks and submit them using the Learning Task feature of Compass for feedback by the due dates. If you cant access Compass or do not have a device, please contact our Office on (03) 4243 0500 or at [email protected] How will I access my teachers? Your teachers will be accessible during your regular timetabled class-times. Some teachers will use WebX, Skype, Zoom or other video-conferencing platforms in addition to Compass Some may use email or the Conversation feature of Learning Tasks to be able to chat with you (remember this is not in real time). Although not always directly speaking with you for the duration of each lesson, teachers will remain online throughout each lesson. Your teachers will also be available via email after the lesson but they may not get back to you until the following day. How will I stay focussed? By following your timetable you will have down time before school, recess , lunch and after school. Make set times to meet up with friends on-line during these times and not during class time. It is a myth that you can concentrate on lots of things at once. Remember to go outside, walk around, exercise, play with your pets, help around the house etc. What if I do not have the Internet? If you do not have access to the Internet please contact our Office at [email protected] The department is looking into a solution for you. Your teachers will send the work home in a hard copy with a return envelope once we know that you need this support. How can I access the library? Ms Marshall has made a heap of resources available for you. Compass link under School Favourites: Echo Online Newspaper Index World Book Encyclopedia online World Book Timelines Clickview will be ready for you soon. You may also like to join the Geelong Library (if you have not done so already). https://grlc.vic.gov.au/ For members - the skys the limit - lots of access to e-resources, ebooks and audio books for home -based research and personal interest! You will need your Membership number and pin number to access and borrow. You can join here: Registration for Geelong Library membership

That will make sure no student feels excluded from using the playground, no matter their abilities. Newtown Primary will get a gender neutral toilet. This is funded through Round 5 of our Inclusive Schools Funding. School upgrades like this are also about creating local jobs at a time when it is most needed.
